Now all the sudden, covid is this huge problem.. Only took 800,000 people to die and now, just now its an issue. I love conservatives. Just like the economy. When all the rich people were making all the money, stock records every week, money like crazy being given away by the government in tax breaks = good. Democrat takes office. omg too much money, we're making too much money! Theres too much of it! Too much money in the economy.
Who would have thought giving away trillions in tax cuts, injecting it into an economy which did not need it at all, would devalue its currency. Almost like, too much of something makes it worth less....

Well my parents are officially completely consumed by the covid hysteria cult. Went to see them and the topic came up of why we never react this way to other diseases like the flu, which is also quite dangerous for the elderly and *more* dangerous to kids than covid.
I was expecting my mom to pause and think about that point, but instead her response was essentially: "You're right, we SHOULD have been acting this way all along for the flu and common colds, we should have been wearing masks and everything else all along, we could have saved so many lives."
So in her mind the abnormal behavior was how things were *before* covid, and how things are now is actually good. It's extremely disturbing and because it's my own parents being this unreasonable I'm genuinely concerned about it.
And yes, they watch basically nothing but msnbc and cnn all day. And occasionally sports.

If there was a way to logistically do it, I’d be for it, even if it meant me being the one to “leave” to somewhere else
But it’s not possible, all states are a combination of both parties. One party would have to volunteer to leave every state, down to the last person. Never gonna happen
But like I said, if it were possible, I’d be all for it. If I had to describe the “marriage” between Dems and Repubs in this country I’d call it extremely toxic and fraught with domestic violence. Had it been a couple they would have long since divorced or one would be in prison

My mom is a conservative who’s vaccinated because she is in her mid 60’s and a breast cancer survivor (double mastectomy), her sister (a die hard Republican) is because she has been a smoker all her life and still smokes, and is also in her late 60’s (an extremely high risk category). It did need to grow tho.
Tax breaks, or "cuts" exist to incentivize economic activity the US government has an interest in promoting.
Marginally. At the point where teachers are making $50,000 a year and my stock portfolio adds more than that in a month, we need need to raise income taxes back to Reagan era levels and consider increasing capital gains taxes on stocks and second (or third) homes. Inequality is destabilizing. Populism and property crime are rising as a result of some of these things, and to some degree, I understand why a poor person without a college degree would not see the point of an honest job as opposed to doing bull shit like mining Bitcoin or stealing catalytic converters. We have gone too far free market. No honest, hard working employed non obese American should be unable to pay their bills for reasonable accommodation, food, etc
I wish I knew how to make that happen. Even giving the government more power to redistribute, or a tax break for essential workers like teachers, librarians, nurses, firemen, paramedics, etc, would be immediately abused. I think money in politics should be banned and political campaigning should be limited to 3 months prior to elections, with primary timelines dramatically reduced. When I decide what state I’m going to retire in (NC, Washington, Montana, Tennessee are the leading contenders), I plan on running for Congress as a moderate Republican. It would be nice if our Congress could even discuss ideas that might work without instantly poisoning the well by causing the other side redneck or communist

You didn’t explicitly say it, but too many people conflate income inequality to mean one side of the spectrum is literally stealing the money from the other side of the spectrum. Inequality just means both sides are GROWING, just that the far side is growing at a exponentially higher rate. But as long as both sides are growing, that is still a net positive for this country. People get more fired up about income inequality due to being lied to and believing that evil mustache-twisting monopoly-game villains are stealing their money from them
Crime is rising because of soft-on-crime local legislation. Bail reform has put a lot of career criminals back on the streets, the Christmas parade massacre is a big example. People are not stealing loaves of bread like AOC claims, they are flash mob stealing high end clothing and electronics stores because they know they can get away with it
You should run as a Democrat, not a moderate Republican

culturally the concept of land ownership IMO is a toxic concept and that people should be more concerned with living off the land then owning more of it.

From what I’ve been told as inflation rises the value of non-monetary assets such as stocks and real estate goes up. Rather than have your savings in dollars, put it into a 2nd house or more stocks. The stock market has been consistently rising in value on a whole because of this
So what is making inflation go up?
I’ve also heard there are rules preventing an financial firm like Blackrock from buying up entire neighborhoods and cities worth of properties. Investment firms can only buy so many properties in a given zip code. I would be for an increase to restrictions like these. I don’t see Joe Schmo rich guy and his 3 houses as the problem, I see investment firms buying everything up as the problem

free money passed out by the gov

I mean I could say the pandemic, but really it's that people dont like working and the pandemic allows them to survive on unemployment comfortably spending less on commuting and dumb cost of living money vaccumes like a 9$ coffee after lunch, and instead groceries and gambling on stocks

All I’m saying in regards to income inequality specifically is that this is how I picture it:
Someone works as a carpenter and used to make $13/hour making furniture out of wood, now makes $15/hour a few years later
Someone else works as an aerospace engineer who also invests in the stock market and used to make $500,000k/year, but a few years later makes close to $800,000k/year
The second person has literally no affect on the first person’s life. He doesn’t employ that person, he doesn’t buy furniture from that person, doesn’t even know that person exists. And vice-versa
Then someone else says to the first person “Did you know this other guy is making $800,000/year?” And the first guy now has some newfound perspective on his income. What used to satisfy now seems meager. He doesn’t understand the skill-gap between aerospace engineering and carpentry and doesn’t care to understand it. He is now fired up that some injustice has taken place, despite the fact that both parties improved their earnings over the past year

Inequality does not imply theft. If an investment banker has enough to buy three houses, and a teacher is priced out of buying one house, we have a politically destabilizing problem. This does not make the banker immoral, it simply means the rest of us must consider how our society is structured. I am also a person who considers education to be more important than anything, so I am biased.
That is just a simplified example, but structurally, something has to change before each party is dominated by populists (sad but true - populists are not competent and almost never deliver

Inequality does not imply theft. If an investment banker has enough to buy three houses, and a teacher is priced out of buying one house
The price of that house has far more to do with the investment banker's CHOICE to invest their money in houses rather than how much money they make
If the investment banker made $100,000,000,000 per day, yet never chose to invest in the housing market, their income has absolutely ZERO bearing on the teacher's income OR the teacher's purchasing power of homes
So stop trying to legislate stealing money from the investment banker and instead maybe restrict how many homes can be purchased as investments, is my opinion

An increase in taxes is a much less extreme position than limiting what can be done in a market economy. I don’t understand your position.
And no, Airbnb, rent, etc, have made buying real estate an almost no brainer if you have money. So the gap in income matters and has an effect on housing prices

I'm talking about reasonable limits on purchasing a particular product. You are talking about theft (stealing one's money) via the government. One is far more extreme than the other
If you went to buy your 5th TV, and I said you were unable to buy that, and someone else said to you "give me $10,000 right now" what would feel more extreme to you?

Scalping is worse than it has ever been, and automated systems to catch scripts and bots buying up all the new graphics cards and video game consoles simply don't work. Something needs to be done to prevent this from continuing to get out of control. Most increase in tax-proponents are not willing to make a financial gift to the government of their own money, despite being able to do it electronically in just 1 minute. After all, it feels better to be virtuous with other people's money

I know nothing about real estate, and this is just off the top of my head. But just like you need a real estate license to buy or sell other people's properties, make a different license you need to apply for in order to buy and sell properties on a large scale. And limit the total number of these licenses allowed per year based on the number of homes constructed, or something like that
Without this license, you are limited to buying an arbitrary number of properties, say something like 5

Ok, I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt that I am definitely the one that knows less about real estate, just going off personal experience
But what your son is choosing to charge for his Airbnb is a function of multiple things, right? It’s not just his whim, I’m assuming he’s basing the price around the competition? Because if the competition is charging significantly less, he wouldn’t get any customers. Unless his home is in some exotic location where there are no competitors
And is an Airbnb considered like rent? I’ve actually never stayed at a Airbnb but isn’t just really short term? When I think rent costs, I am thinking either month to month or leases you get into with the landlord. Not that those prices aren’t going up as well, but aren’t they different categorically to a 1 night stay at a BnB?
I’m going to assume a scenario where instead of a BnB, your son rents the property to someone, and makes money that way. Let’s assume he owns the property so the rent goes into his pocket and doesn’t have to go towards the property’s mortgage
That would mean your son has whatever the value of the home in $$ to invest into a way of making money. If he wanted, he could sell the property and have probably hundreds of thousands of $$ to invest in some other business venture. Had he chose, he could buy multiple store franchises for that (not chains, just multiple individual stores). Or like you said, a smart investment of those hundreds of thousands of dollars into the stock market or crypto could be enough to live off of
I really don’t see the problem with your son’s situation. Also, I think the value of homes and rent are going up because the real estate market is too hot, and that’s due to big investment firms and whales, not your son

Wow I always wondered if the government could ever make police go door to door to gather up guns. That is actually a lot more unlikely than I thought
I just stumbled onto some firearms law. Apparently if you own an illegal firearm, let’s say an automatic weapon, the federal government can send an argent from ATF (alcohol, tobacco, and firearms) to your door to seize it. They can and will identify themselves as a cop, and demand you open the door
But you don’t have to. And they can’t do anything further without getting a warrant first. I’m assuming this is possible, but just adds another layer of complication. And this is to get something like a fully automatic weapon. The red tape required to get them to search your home for something like a pistol? Probably never gonna happen
Just more reason to reinforce why people intended to continue to break the law should never talk to or open their door for cops

The problem is that owning realilstate is well, the american dream.
Culturally this country is, weather we want to admit it or not, a culture of ownership. It has built a great nation.
But we've changed a lot, we dont believe in anything, we're all nihilistis, and we dont think there is a future.
We've built a global market where shadows can buy anything and created a society where selling everything you have is the best you can be.
I like what patriam said or basically, anything like making owning a second home pointless beyond saving you time looking for a rental would help.
Owning 2 houses should at best be like keeping your money in the mattress. A pathetic laughed at thing to do if you're trying to "save your money".
The money should be invested into bonds to make the country a better place instead.

Owning 2 houses should at best be like keeping your money in the mattress. A pathetic laughed at thing to do if you're trying to "save your money".
Who can afford to pay off two mortgages at once, even before this recent housing boom? Not most people
So anyone who is making enough money to pay off multiple houses at once is also making enough money to invest that money into some other way of making money. My cousin worked as an accountant for years, I'm assuming she was saving money during that time, then got her real estate license, now she rents out like 5 properties and that's her new full time job. Assuming you manage them yourself it's actually a lot of work, since you are responsible for fixing anything that goes wrong on any property at any time. And also protecting yourself from getting ripped off
I have another co-worker who paid a company to list his second property, find renters, and rent it. They take a significant chunk of his rent earnings though, like 20% or something I forget. He mentioned that without having the property (just some cheap condo) paid off, he would have to make more in rent taken than the mortgage costs in order to have enough money on hand to fix stuff. Apparently his dryer at the property broke twice in a row, which he blames on the tenant trying to wash ridiculously large loads of clothes after being asked not to
So I think earning enough money to pay off and then rent out multiple homes has always been out of reach of most. And like I mentioned in my other post, if you can save up enough money to pay off a house completely, you could put that money into many other money making schemes and make just as much if not more than you could renting that house. Stocks or crypto being the big 2 examples

Im not sure what you mean by that.
But what Im talking about doing would help most people buy a home.
1 company in china owns 20,000 homes.
I was just mentioning that even before the housing boom, if you had a house paid off completely, you always had a good amount of capital to then make money with
You could rent the home out, assuming you could live somewhere else like with a relative. Or you could just sell the house and buy a store. I looked into buying a business franchise, and it’s not as expensive as you’d think, a lot of stores cost around $100k. So you could own your own subway restaurant. Even after paying a small staff, you could probably earn enough money with that store to comfortably live on, especially if you were living with a relative
So all this “making money in real estate” can also just mean saving up a shitload of money and then putting that money into some business venture. You just save the money by paying off your house while living in it
But yes there is a problem when the prices of homes get out of reach for people with middle class incomes to afford them. And I do think big investment firms buying up all the houses is the problem
unsunghero
12-31-2021, 09:21 PM

So you buy a second home, but then you owe on its mortgage. So all the rent you make goes towards the house mortgage, unless you are charging more for rent than the mortgage costs. But I think it would most likely be the other way around. Unless you find a sucker, you will probably have to charge less in rent than what you pay for the mortgage every year
So you will not make a liquid profit on that second house until the mortgage is paid which could take decades. I mean you are getting profit in equity in the house, but that’s not money you can use when you need to. You also have to fix everything that goes wrong in the house for the next 20 years. So you better have some money saved for that

If you buy the house then sell it 6 months later, you have to pay what you still owe on the house when you sell
So let’s say you put 20% down and finance 80% in a mortgage. In 6 months, you will have only made 6 payments on that mortgage. Considering you are paying the maximum amount of interest at the beginning (minimum at the end because interest paid scales off how much of the loan is left owed), then you wouldn’t have paid off even 1% or maybe not even 2% of the value in those 6 payments
So unless the home just skyrockets in value in the next 6 months, you would either be at a wash (no change) in money or else you might be down due to the fees and costs associated with buying and selling
So as a non-rich average joe who wants to make money in real estate, here’s how: buy a cheap home to live in that needs a lot of work done but is in a desirable area. Then find the cheapest (in my state this would be the illegals that post up outside home improvement stores) labor you can find to fix up the home. Then re-sell it after about 1-3 years. The value will have gone up due to demand for homes in that area + the value of the improvements you spent on the home. If you were able to get a bathroom put in for only $2000 of your money, you could still choose to charge $10,000-$20,000 more for it having an additional bathroom now. People love extra bathrooms, especially in multi-bedroom homes. Or if you put in that fancy hardwood floor everyone likes, you can charge way more for it in the home price when you sell than what you paid
Plus you get the amount of money the house naturally went up. You would still have to pay back what you still owe on your loan, but you could make like 80-100k in a few years doing that. Then, repeat
That would be my strategy. But you have to compete with the big firms trying to buy and flip these homes

Haven’t watched the second but the first was just more like an ad for his method
I’ll watch the second in a bit, but like I mentioned before, if you paid the entire home value in cash, then you immediately start making money on it by renting it out. But if you took out a loan to buy it, then the rent you earn in renting it out has to go to that loan. So you won’t make money you can use right away
And it is possible to buy a home, do nothing, and then sell it for more. Mine is an example of that. It’s value has gone up around $125k in the last few years. If anything, it looks worse than before because I’ve done nothing to it, except maintain the yard. But it takes years for it to up in that kind of value, and mine is a special case because it is in a highly desirable part of Phoenix in a highly desirable state for people from CA to move to due to lower cost of living. A home in CA or NY will likely be going down in value, since no one wants to move there. So where you buy the home matters
Otherwise if you want to buy and then sell quick and make money in the sale, you’ll have to do something to improve the value and that usually implies big labor jobs like a new roof or new flooring
I’ll watch the second vid a bit later

Then find the cheapest (in my state this would be the illegals that post up outside home improvement stores) labor you can find to fix up the home.
You'd be surprised. Even in upstate NY, there's a company that installs metal roofing and my neighbor had it done a couple years ago. Every single employee of "Evergreen roofing" was clearly hispanic and didn't speak english. Their boss was some white dude with glasses.
Not that they were illegal immigrants. I'm sure it's every immigrant's dream to settle in frigid upstate ny.

The Democrats’ Hispanic Voter Problem
The Democrats are steadily losing ground with Hispanic voters. The seriousness of this problem tends to be underestimated in Democratic circles for a couple of reasons: (1) they don’t realize how big the shift is; and (2) they don’t realize how thoroughly it undermines the most influential Democratic theory of the case for building their coalition.
Turning to the nature and size of recent Hispanic shifts against the Democrats—it’s not as bad as you think, it’s worse.

In such a large election there was obviously some amount of fraud, it is inevitable. Whether or not it's enough to change the outcome is the pertinent question, but let's be honest we don't fucking know, and never will. And that cuts both ways. Maybe dem districts cheated more in 2020, maybe republican districts cheated more in 2016. Speculating with any kind of certainty in either direction is kind of retarded for any layman. The thing is, the dem line on 2020 is that it was the "most secure election in history" which is just patently absurd. Like, we get it that politicians lie, but that's just such an egregious lie. Simple logic tells you that couldn't be true.

When they leave out the part in 1960's when all the evil democrats turned into the GOP.
There was a process that I prefer to call the “Great Sorting” that really started when the “Dixiecrats” ran their own candidate in opposition to Harry Truman in 1948 and was essentially completed with Nixon’s 1968 “Southern strategy”. Both parties became much more ideologically homogeneous during that period almost entirely for reasons having to do with race and civil rights. The odd thing is that the smaller wing within each party in 1948 was the dominant force in 1968. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 is often cited as the precipitating event, but in truth it was more of a “last straw” that was more sharply divided along regional lines than party lines. Northern Democrats, led by Hubert Humphrey, were a major force in its passage while the relatively few Southern Republicans were uniformly opposed to it. Meanwhile, the Republican party platform went from having a long (~1200 words) section on civil rights in 1960 to a paragraph (~300 words) in 1964 to no mention of the issue at all in 1968.
Dohhhhhhhhhh... So its really the same people, rebranded. Think of it more geographically then political. Its always from the same region, same people. The southern part of the country has always been the most evil, insane, and killed millions of black people over the years through slavery. Then the civil war. All on the part of the southern states. The takers. The welfare states. The trash with their cup, begging for government hand outs cause their state is a 3rd world hell hole. Americas losers, the south.

Anyone with a brain knows that’s ridiculous. You could try to argue that it is “just as secure” as in person voting (which is a stretch), but I cannot find any logical argument how mailing in a vote is “more secure” than having one’s identity checked at a polling station

5'6 rockets come up short. (https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/science/iran-space-launch-fails-put-payloads-into-orbit-official-says-2021-12-31/)
Iran's space launch on Thursday failed to put its three payloads into orbit after the rocket was unable to reach the required speed, a defence ministry spokesman said in remarks carried on state television on Friday.
The attempted launch, which came as indirect U.S.-Iran talks take place in Austria to try to salvage a 2015 nuclear deal, drew criticism from the United States, Germany and France.

Even mail in voting still requires someone to register as a voter, then fill out a form in pen and mail it
These two steps still technically disincentivize people to vote, and thus are unconstitutional. What if someone doesn’t want to fill out a form? What if someone doesn’t own a pen?
I think we should move towards “say in voting”, where all you need to do to vote is just say out loud the candidate you want to vote for. Then we can ultimately move to “think in voting”, where someone doesn’t have to make the effort to say anything and can just spend a moment thinking about who they want to vote for
Then we will have reached peak voting numbers and our elections will be more secure than they’ve ever been. I can only hope we can reach such a utopia in my lifetime

Only voter ID for first timers in PA. Can do it with a utility bill.

Ya, same I’ve heard in places like CA, from their site:
“However, if you are voting for the first time after registering to vote by mail and did not provide your driver license number, California identification number or the last four digits of your social security number on your registration form, you may be asked to show a form of identification when you go to the polls. In this case, be sure to bring identification with you to your polling place or include a copy of it with your vote-by-mail ballot. A copy of a recent utility bill, the sample ballot booklet you received from your county elections office or another document sent to you by a government agency are examples of acceptable forms of identification. Other acceptable forms of identification include your passport, driver license, official state identification card, or student identification card showing your name and photograph”
https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/voting-resources/voting-california/what-bring
Of course it’s illegal to vote illegally. It’s also illegal to enter the country illegally. Somehow I doubt CA investigates or prosecutes either infraction, and I can guess the reason why they don’t. But that’s just me with my tinfoil hat

One christmas my dad and mom got my brother and I a honda 70 three wheeler. Then my aunt left her "big red" three wheeler when she moved out of state a few years later. I was too little to care what engine it had it was like 2 feet taller than the 70 and I couldnt drive it very fast because i was barely in control of the shit at like 11.. As you can imagine, someone bout died on it and we got rid of it. Drunk family friends when BBQ's with oysters and going muddin after eating and getting shitty. It’s brakes were almost too good, so while it wasn’t lowered or tinted, my friend and I discovered that if we just pumped the brakes at a light, the entire front end of the car would bounce, almost completely off the ground, as if we had hydraulics. Thats awesome. I wish I had a toyota like that as a kid. That double wiper in the back? I had a 1996 mercury sable with the big solid front headlight. Like the whole grill was a headlight. Digital dash, like a fighter jet! The shit blew up on the road side so this mechanic dude i knew scooped it up. He shaved the heads at his house, valve job, secret ford stuff, raises the compression of the engine so this bitch is snappy now. You could hear the pistons quench against the heads. That bitch was snappy. Undefeated in neighborhood drag races. Good memories...
