Buy more shoes from China. It keeps them occupied with peasant work while we perform 100x more valuable tasks.

We have China completely by the balls. We print endless streams of money and give those promises to them in exchange for low-end goods. They can't say no and devote their base to satisfying our demands. Meanwhile if we chose to, we could completely cripple them. It would take a year or two to gear production back up for those goods if something "happened" to our Chinese partners or their precious trade routes. We can easily shift production to India or Vietnam as Apple has been doing recently. I'm sure the Mexicans and other guys from that area would love to take up the burden.

Meanwhile the Chinese would have nowhere to unload their junk and they wouldn't be ready to take up the slack for high-end domestic product in nearly the time it would take us to dust off the old factories. We have those guys right where we want them.

The travel ban didn't really do much because the virus was already here. And the little confirmed cases were because we didn't have the testing we have today. As you can see from the current state of affairs, Americans don't need any help spreading the virus.

Here in Seattle we have an anti-vax movement that rivals the extremist alt-right levels of distrust. This also extends to anything done by any large private entity. It sounds like you've discovered half the problem with the USA political structure. Yea, the GOP does think it can get away with anything. It's the same way with democrats though. A lot of what is reported depends on who's doing the reporting. Fox will bash the left; CNN the right. Who can do what and get away with it depends on more factors than any one person can keep track of.

Here's one example. When Washington State first "shut down" our democratic governor said only essential businesses can remain open.....ok, makes sense. Believe it or not Starbucks is considered essential. Small independent coffee stands had to close as did most smaller independent restaurants. Places that contribute "significantly" to the powers that be however are allowed to stay open.....ie, places that provide substantial financial contributions to our "democratic" (ie, left leaning) form of government.

The modern French state has its roots in both the marxist reforms and French revolution. Modern day Cambodia is the nation Pol Pot and his khmer regime built. Modern fascist China is Mao's successor. They don't want to federally mandate masks because our outbreak is regional. NY and NJ are over it, CA/TX/FL are spiking. Measures should be tailored to where the problem is. The feds issue guidelines to states and the governors are supposed to implement them based on what's going on locally.

Any talk of federal stimulus belongs to the Congress which disburses all the money. Anything you hear regarding that is Schumer and McConnell maneuvering for position. Please note that the current block is that Trump is pushing for a giant payroll tax reduction and other GOP don't like it.

Regarding your last point, the "federal aid" via military police, Trump is mainly protecting Federal property. The government buildings in Portland and other places have been a magnet for the violent looters and the local police have done nothing. There's DHS facilities, Border Patrol offices, Federal Courthouses, offices, etc. Trump is doing two things here. One he is actually protecting the property like he's supposed to, and two he is sending a message that there is some law and order still going on. If you don't do anything it just encourages that behavior - I think we're all past arguing that standing back and letting our new founding fathers do their thing is bad idea. It's also not correct to call them "military police". These guys either work for the Border Patrol or the Bureau of Prisons. They're neither military nor police. I guess technically they're "Agents". Like from all the sources you normally get your information from, at the end of the day when you collate everything you heard and come to some conclusions, do you feel like your level of confidence in the accuracy of the information you have received is better today then before or worse? Bit of background about me that'll hopefully shed a bit of light on why I think the way I do about not only covid-19, BLM protests and basically all hotbed newsy things. Feel free to skip if context doesn't matter to you.

I've lived in several different areas around the country; many with different political and social views about various things. My views use to shift from one extreme to the other depending on my age, maturity level, etc. I have a HUGE extended family with members that post political, social and societal crap all over the place. Yea, I get tidbits from all sides of the spectrum. Hell, one great uncle is basically Grizzly Adams that has contact with the outside world when one of my cousins goes hunting or fishing. Another extended family member thinks Marxx is a pretty cool dude and we need to use his writing as the new bible. The rest are more centered than those two but you get the point. I also keep in contact with friends from my past; most have different political views. Currently I live just outside Seattle. A few republicans live around here but most are very very blue. I subscribe to issues, not political parties or rallies/protests.

This mess combined with one of my college majors was communications/journalism. My initial thought about going into that field was something akin to "I want to make sure the people reading my stories are well informed about important issues that affect them." or some such thing. However near the end of my sophomore year in college it was made pretty evident from my professors that our job is to write in a way so that our followers would be more loyal to our columns which would in turn keep subscribers and gain new ones. This is accomplished by writing not only about issues that may or may not directly affect our readers but presenting things in order to invoke some sort of response be it emotional, mental, physical, etc. This was all back in the early 1990's. Since then this writing style is paramount not only left mainstream journalism but has also moved into many other areas where somebody (or group) has any sort of agenda. IMO society as a whole has grown accustomed to this style of reporting and is now become desensitized to anything that doesn't invoke some sort of "OMG!!!" type mental/emotional idealization.

Ok, background done so onto actually posting relevant opinions about this thread. People that paint broad brushstrokes about "All these people" or "None of these people" are correct from their point of view. However to say this type of thing is nationwide or even correct from one geographic location to another is short sighted. People are people with different points of view, circumstances, living conditions, socio-economic backgrounds, lifestyles, (this list goes on an on), etc.

Due to my background I carefully dissect a lot of what not only the media/news claims but also do what I can to figure out if whoever is making a claim has something to gain by making it. Dr. Fauci is very smart. He's been in the infectious disease game for a really long time. However he's also been a director since 1984 which leads me to believe he's more of an administrator/bureaucrat more than an actual scientist/lab rat. I trust he's doing what he feels is "best" given his point of view but best for who? No matter what anybody claims all humans have at least some form of narcissism/self preservation; Dr. Fauci and his buddies at the NIH are no different. The leaders of the Seattle or Portland protests are the same. BLM leaders, yep you guessed it. Pastors wanting full churches, ditto. I think you get the picture.

Next up are the news/media sources. A journalist/editor/publisher doesn't have to know shit about infectious diseases. When I was a journalism major I was required to have 2 college science classes. Geology and geography filled those requirements for me so that's what I took at the time. Biology in 9th grade was my only scientific education regarding living things. Today journalists are in the same boat. So any journalist/etc. can simply take 3-5 sentences from any scientific source and write a story about "OMG!!! LOOK, LOOK, LOOK!!!" So I trust the journalist/editor/publisher will inform their readers only as much as is needed to continue generating clicks and gaining subscribers. If I (and anybody else) reads an article I will be more informed about something than I was before reading it. Currently (at least as far as I understand it) journalists aren't allowed to lie but nothing stops them from taking things out of context or even not giving all relevant information regarding any issue; covid-19, blm, protests, masks, etc. Similar point of view from non-journalists that have a vested interest in gaining something from having people rally behind them.

TL;DR I do feel the same today as I did in March. Healthy skepticism with a hint of trust and a substantial amount of verify.
