You are right to a certain extent.

What is considered "real loss"? A teenager who's pet rat died? A kid in foster care who is watching their only parent be led away to serve years in prison? Death of a family member? Loss of personal things that most take for granted (ie. amputation, mobility, cognitive capabilities, etc.)? Real loss is very person dependent; just like perspective.

Your poorly educated does strike a cord. In my neck of the woods there's a significant number of people with bachelors degrees and graduate degrees. However simply because a person has one doesn't mean they're well versed in all areas. In some situations it's counterproductive IMO. One of my friends has a masters from Princeton in CS. She's dam smart and a hell of a developer at Microsoft. She also has the opinion that she can read one or two articles on any subject and become an instant expert on that subject in 15 minutes or less; including Covid-19. This is dangerous as hell IMO.

I'm hoping your remark about "following their sports team" was meant as an example. Definitely depends on where you live, but that's basically any major city. A starting salary of 78k a year, if you actually live inside that city, is worth significantly less than if you were lived outside of it and commuted which introduces its own hassles and costs.

I was offered a job in NYC for a substantial raise but I would have had to move there. After nuking out the costs of living the amount I took home would be significantly less than I was making where I currently was because I was splitting rent with a couple friends. I think I was paying maybe $450 after utilities a month and the only places I would've wanted to live in NYC would have cost ~$2,500 a month, maybe I could've gotten a roommate but I wasn't super keen on living with strangers by that point in my life.

So one of my areas of study way back in college was business. I took 3 semesters of econ, 2 semesters of accounting, 1 semester of marketing. Additionally after switching majors a couple times I finished with a minor in psychology, sociology/criminology and a handful of other classes related to it all.

In regards to your first paragraph; that crap has been debated since Caveman Clurg demanded two turkey legs for every five avocados. It continues today with different things and will continue until humanity ends.

As far as your second paragraph....there's definitely some correlation but how closely linked they are is anybody's argument. Amazon definitely did bring in a lot of high wage people but for Seattle this is nothing new. Microsoft made a huge pile of millionaires starting in the mid 1980's. Boeing people can become wealthy if they work with the right people/groups. Add in all the high paid scientific/medical/healthcare people and there's definitely a lot of high paid people in this area.

Before the minimum wage hike most of the $7.25 people were working for tips. The people that didn't get tips made in the $12-$15/hour range already. The people that have lived here awhile knew who was making minimum wage; we tipped fairly generously if the service was good. Example: I had season tickets to hockey. A beer was $4; everybody there simply gave the bartender $5. Ditto with pretzels. Nacho's were $8, pay $10 and let the server keep $2. Supergiant HOWEVER, the shitty/asshole bartenders/servers didn't make jack in tips so they "got screwed" by the system.

Now where the Amazon people come into this equation....most (not all, just most) are transplants. Take somebody from a part of the country/world with a low cost of living and start paying them $90k/year. Woohoo, they just won at life. The life winner goes out to lunch with their team for the first time. Each person on the team gets their bill....$20 for a burger, bowl of potato salad one one beer? Fucking ripoff man! These asshole servers are making more serving me than engineers back in my hometown! I'm going to leave them a lousy $1 tip on a $20 meal. This crap should only cost $5 back home.

Seeing as I was just in one for a couple days (turns out I had what they think was a minor eye stroke, randomly went blind in my left eye for like 30 seconds, everything is cool now though), I was put into a separate wing of the hospital where people go if they're waiting for test results. If its negative, they then bring you wherever they intend to keep you.

The PCAs and nurses that came into my room prior to getting the results back were in full PPE garb.

At least where I was, depending on procedures being done, you're re-tested if you haven't had a test within 24 hours of being sent to a different wing. So unfortunately I had to get the test twice.

If you haven't gotten the covid test, trust me, its as shitty as people describe it to be. You still feel like there's a swab up your nose for like 2 minutes after its done its fuckin weird.

What is your guys' testing protocol for new admits? I've been reading statistics coming from Florida where 1/3 of all hospital admits, all causes, were testing positive for corona.

I'm supposed to be starting my final clinical rotation (physical therapy) at a major trauma center at the end of the month, where I will be in the STICU and trauma ICU. By the terms of my program's agreement with the hospital, I'm not allowed to treat covid+ patients. However, in past rotations, I've had physicians refer pt's for PT before screens came back. Nearly got exposed to TB because of that.

Like are you treating every pt as a possible positive until you get a negative result? I have a feeling this is going to be such a shitshow of a rotation.

Everyone gets swabbed that comes through the ED. That swab takes about 20 minutes to run. Then it gets sent to an outside lab for confirmation. We test roughly every 2-3 days for a week for anyone with symptoms.

We put suspected with the covids but at this point it’s wherever we have room for you. We’re running out of hospital equipment, beds, and staff. South Florida
is killing it right now.

Our PTs are working with covid patients. It must really be warranted. We’re trying to limit any staff exposure to covid patients.

Family and friends completely barred from visiting again unless patient actively dying.

As a career everquest player I always maximise my time spent at home, and minimising exposure to others.

Generally I'll only don the mask when entering enclosed spaces with non-household members. It is very rare I go in such a place as we are able to procure most things online (Amazon on the up and up). AFAIK the only time I've been indoors, besides my own house, is when I had to get a tyre replaced on the car.
