I'll concede you have a point here, but there's a difference between a group and a single character having thousands upon thousands of HP killing what is intended to be a raid mob.

This is really all I was trying to say. I'm not trying to diminish you soloing him on Phinny. That's actually pretty cool that you're able to do that. I can't imagine standing toe to toe with AoW (also as a druid), mostly because he can crush me in a single round and the thought of anyone soloing him borders on the ridiculous to me.

A lot of the other situations you described are possible, sure, but very unlikely to happen often. For the most part, raid mobs on P99 require a raid. Yes there are exceptions. But the fact that you can go back on a TLP after a few expacs have released and solo ALL of the classic content is the issue. Power creep in games has always been a shit box and EQ was really coming into its own when it started to become a problem.

If you enjoy Phinny, keep on keepin' on killin' those raid mobs. A server that makes classic content feel like easymode just doesn't sit well with me is all.

I think you’re conflating “easy mode” with the normal stat inflation that occurs in any MMO’s lifespan. Nagafen could shit stomp an original non-planar EQ raid group, and now he could potentially be soloed with enough clickies and gear this deep into velious. Phinny doesn’t have some monopoly on that being a potential problem.

Phinigel intended to be a raid mob, slain with 2 magicians in Kunark on P99.

Terror intended to be a raid mob, trio'd by neckbeards on P99.

Overking and Queen in Chardok intended to be a raid mob, I've done both with four on P99.

Ixiblat intended to be a raid mob, Shamans with clicks have soloed on P99, I've duo'd on P99.

Keeper of Souls intended to be a raid mob, I've done with a single group on P99, and he DTs...

Etc. etc. With enough gear, clickies and know how, many things intended to be raid mobs can be defeated easily with less than a group even on P99. The inflation of HP and stats was necessary to provide a challenge to players.

A problem they had in classic was the 32,000 HP limitation on mobs due to 16-bit coding. It became clear in Kunark that mobs simply aren't providing a challenge because they can be killed so quickly. So, in Velious when they upgraded, they were able to have mobs with 100k-1million HP. As a result, they needed to inflate character gear to be able to reasonably fight these mobs. Velious was the beginning of what you hate really.

It's funny, they are actually running into the same problem 24 expansions in. Ring of Scale has reached the 32-bit maximum value for mob HP, a raid boss in the first raid of the expansion has 2,147,483,647 HP. At this point they've decided to make raids where you have to deal with multiple raid bosses simultaneously to try to add challenge to their raids since they are hamstrung in being able to increase HP further than that.

I get that idolic creatures like AoW people felt should never be soloed. But in classic you felt the same way about Nagafen. And I'm sure if a BiS Monk on P99 deleveled and grabbed 10 Wort potions they would solo him too.

Jonas Dagmire's Skeletal Hand quest is a great quest chain. All classes get some unique spells, I'm very much loading forward to Vinelash Cascade. Being able to root unlimited numbers of mobs is going to be $$$. Plus Solteris has some very fun raids. Luclin MoTM should get removed in TBS at which point I'll start messing around with farming some of the events for clickies I missed when it was current.

Love that content is continually getting released. Always something to look forward to.

Staff bashing? I don't think I'd consider the truth bashing in this case. The fact that they banned an account I had linked to a game account of mine and can no longer change the password to because I quoted someone who posted an RMT site is fucking absurd. You can still search that RMT site on these very forums and find tons of people talking about it including staff members. So yes rules being selectively enforced here sucks. Since I was pulling I controlled the flow of mobs. There was basically always at least one mob in camp at all times. That is just absolutely yeasty vagina exp. No wonder I stopped playing. I know KC is balls, but that's where I was and most of the mobs are 1-2 levels below me. BGs being even. Alcohol played a big part in this session and I don't think I could play this game sober anymore.

In terms of recent events and shutting down the AON/COF thread, I think this thread is due for the same treatment.

The story has concluded and can be summarized....

1. BDA can't feed it's inflated raiding population here because it can't get FTE on anything ( :o ) and takes "hundreds" of players to Phinigel when it launches because the staff won't offer a Velious rotation.

2. Phinigel launches, a slight drop in the population (under 100) is noticeable.

3. BDA proudly post about how much great raid content they're doing on "not P99".

4. Phinny numbers drop like a lead balloon over the coming months.

5. Everyone slowly stops playing except Daldean who wasn't in BDA anyway, who is drowned out by Kushie triple posting nonsense to keep the thread out of page 2.

6. Phinny pretty much a dead server and flatlining, people need to box to have enough people to raid. Shows live servers to be aids in the long term.

7. P99 lived on, happily ever after as slowly people either came back...or didn't. It was of no consequence. The guild becomes a footnote in the server's history.

8. BDA members won't like to hear these facts and are going to be mad again but it's been years now and they should really move on.

So I hadn't logged in to p99 for...not even sure. 6-8 months I'll guess. Granted, I was in KC. I was at hands/BG though on a 53 monk. In about 12 hours total I got 4 fucking yellow bubs. Since I was pulling I controlled the flow of mobs. There was basically always at least one mob in camp at all times. That is just absolutely yeasty vagina exp. No wonder I stopped playing. I know KC is balls, but that's where I was and most of the mobs are 1-2 levels below me. BGs being even. Alcohol played a big part in this session and I don't think I could play this game sober anymore.

I can relate. The last time I had fun grouping was on July 4 because most everyone in my group was drunk. I was partially sober for some it and partially not sober for the other part.

I normally just solo since most people just afk randomly and don't say anything.

pretty sure dald answered the question about phinny catching live. however someone (maybe dald) also pointed out that mob health would be capped on live soon due to the way the game is coded. so not only will phinny catch live but phinny and live will hit a dead end without perhaps some major recoding which is unlikely on the daybreak pump and dump budget.

as far as the p99 chardok revamp im thinking its unlikely. i think that patch is when all the epics become super easy mode so think of how many casuals the server will lose once they get their epic for 10k MQ'd in the tunnel but then realize they wont see anything else without poopsocking earthquake timers. my guess is that epics are the carrot on the stick that keep a lot of the casuals believing in a better tomorrow.
