What kind of time are you aiming for in the half marathon?
So I try to "go hard" which basically means go as fast as I can paced for a particular distance maybe once a week to once every other week. And for the most part it pretty much sucks. It's fun to go balling past the soccer games and people walking their dogs, but that's about where the fun ends. The rest is slight suffocation, pain, and what really scares me is sometimes a lurch in my chest
As someone who's had both covid and the vaxx, I worry about people keeling over these days. And if I'm ever going to die running, it would probably going the furthest distance I go as hard as I can. In the past, I've had borderline medical issues at the end of the half due to going too hard, and that's before fucking around with my heart
So 7 years ago before covid and when I was 180lbs, I usually finished around 1:30, which worked out to like a 7:40ish m/mi or something. This time, I'm going to try to be still above average, probably ideally under 9:00m/mi. But effort-percent wise I'll probably be going 70-80%

If I tried running with my cat on a leash it'd be like
It's so much fun to watch him rip around on our trails. I created a bunch of trails through the woods for my kids, now we have this dog and he treats them like a race track. Super impressive.
He hasn't caught a turkey or a deer yet but he has spooked them. Pretty hilarious to see 6 turkeys running down a trail all goofy like, as turkeys do.

Oh yea it was a stupid decision
But to be able to make it to the top of that mountain at age 69, without any supplemental oxygen, and with a serious-sounding chest infection….probably 99% of people on earth couldn’t accomplish that physical feat at that age
And I wonder if people who see summiting as a self-actualization moment, especially at an advanced age like his, actually don’t care if they die immediately after. Or it could just be a combination of “I spent 50k on this and this is my last chance in life” + the brain being deprived of oxygen fucking with a person’s ability to reason the risk
paid 50k+ to die like a dummy on an overcrowded trash-filled, corpse-strewn mountain, with sherpas doing all the legwork, I'm sure

everyone starts a little bitch. you will build the fortitude to relax in the cold. i use my pool during the winter. i think about it all summer.
mental weights. the muscle you exercise, perhaps, when you are about to die on a run and realize you aren't even halfway through, and you have to decide if are gonna be a man or a mouse.
standing on a 60ft cliff, building the courage to jump. that "muscle"
facing that challenge every day. can't argue that wouldn't make you stronger.
thats on top of any physiological effects it might/might not have. cold therapy has been used in mental health practice for a long time. the problem is it is very temporary. the elated feeling.
again mental health srry...as to performance, i heard if you are lifting to gain muscle, it will retard gains.

But what he doesn't say here is how strength = cardio gains
To some degree it can by developing things like stability muscles. But strength usually = size....and more tissue, whether that's fat or muscle, requires more oxygen
Considering he one time placed top 10% in a marathon, but while talking about cardio and walking at about a 4mph pace was now out of breath, I wonder how much his cardio performance suffered by putting on 100+ lbs of mostly muscle but fat as well from his marathon days
Either way, more good info from Mitchell

I’ve only used edibles for so long, I think I wouldn’t even remember how to use a bong or vape (kiddin, I could figure it out). But yea it’s been years of only edibles
Interestingly enough I did find an electronic weed vape laying on the ground on my jogging route at the park 2 days ago. Was wondering why there was a blue light on the ground. I picked it up and placed it on a visible concrete ledge in case the owner tried to retrace their steps for it

I used to smoke out of glass pipes, bongs, then eventually vapes when I first got into weed 8+ years ago
But because of the timing getting into weed was right around when I got into fitness. It was ok at first, I started at 260lbs all fat and the weight was flying off running. I’d almost always get high on weed before working out so it all was great
But, because of daily use, I noticed I started to develop a persistent cough. I used to chalk it up to having just smoked but then I noticed it was always there, when I woke up, when I went to bed, even if I didn’t smoke that day
So I tried switching to exclusively vaping because I didn’t want my cardio performance to suffer, I was too into working out at that point. But the first gen vapes weren’t the best. I noticed I’d still be getting smoke with them or they’d straight break a month after I got them
I switched to edibles which I preferred as more economical due to the high lasting more like 4 hours rather than 1-2. That was like 6 years ago and I never went back to vape other than like maybe once a year at a wedding or outting with friends, etc

Anyone on TRT? How much you taking? How much does it cost? Cream or injection?
Side affects?
I can answer most of those, we don’t have to get too deep into why ;)
Dose is figured out by blood tests given by the prescribing Dr. It has about a 0% chance of being perfect off the bat. You both will try to isolate out as many other factors on not just your test but also your free test and SHBG as the periodic tests go by arrive at a blood level you feel is best for you. For most guys, they usually want to be anywhere from 600-1000+ ng/dl depending on their physical demands, with the more athletic demanding a higher level. Dose to stay at the high end of natural for most guys ends up about 100-160ish mg/week
Sub-Q into fat does less damage and creates less scar tissue than IM. Creams are shit. Anything you force inside your tissue (not vein) with a needle gets absorbed at roughly the same rate. So there’s no difference in Sub-Q vs IM absorption rate. So go with the one that is less painful, and does less damage. Especially since you are going to want to be doing at least 2x/week shots for optimal blood levels. You want a smooth blood level curve as the week goes by, not a pyramid with a valley. Big changes in blood levels = more side effects!
Cost if you go online can be as low as like $80/100/mo. You will have to go into a local lab and mail all your blood work results. Dr consults will be done remotely. If you go local, look for anti-aging clinics or just a Google search for trt clinics. It’s a booming industry
Side effects incl: thickening of the blood for some, negated by either regular blood work or blood letting. Testicular atrophy after years of dormancy, negated by using certain prescription drugs like HCG the Dr will prescribe. Also no sperm count, infertility, but not 100% reliable infertility, like a vasectomy. So you most likely can’t get anyone pregnant, but there’s still a tiny% chance, so you can’t raw dog it without any worry. If you want to get someone pregnant you have to come off or take HCG. For some left ventricle heart enlargement, slightly higher chance of prostate cancer. Dr will go over all the risks
Your current blood test results don’t matter. Say you have the symptoms and pay out of pocket and no one cares. If TRT is fucking your body up the TRT doctor will likely catch it with regular blood work, but having a cardiologist as well would be strongly recommended

don't forget the telltale gut and boobs
I haven’t heard of GH gut from test, normally that’s from growth hormone growing your organs behind your abs, pushing everything out
Man boobs you won’t tend to get at a therapeutic dose of test. Normally aromatization tends to occur at supraphysiological doses. But of course it’s case by case and for a rare hyper-responder it’s not out of the question
You should never be needing to regularly take an AI (aromatase inhibitor aka estrogen blocker) on TRT. If your doc is recommending either an AI, or if he is doing only weekly or bi-weekly (once every 2 week) shots, then the doc is about 10 years behind the science (aka old school endo’s who don’t understand TRT) and you need to find a new doc

"I look like you wanna look, I fuck like you wanna fuck, I am smart, capable, and most importantly, I'm free in all the ways you are not". The Yosemite ones are particularly intrepid and used to people, but you're absurdly unlikely to be attacked and even more unlikely to be killed, it's almost not worth thinking about. You can actually be pretty beast during a 72 hour fast or ketosis cuz you don't have a sugar crash. Energy just stays consistent. Just straight up endless endurance as long as you are rested and have the fat to burn. And keep your electrolytes in balance. I would not personally push it beyond 24 hrs because of diminishing returns and exponential stress on the body tho. You can do like upto 400 calories a day too without breaking out of a fasting metabolism once ur body will happily switch over.
I had way less lactic acid buildup too. (It seemed) like zero soreness or need for recovery. Could have just been my training regimen tho I guess.
Intermittent fasting is absolutely fricking amazing.
Going longer than 24 hrs I wouldn't advise heavy activities of any kind just to be on the safe side.

This girl’s final message before death is pretty heartbreaking. World of Warcraft was her favorite game too, a fellow gamer
I like this guy’s vid but I don’t completely agree that wanting it more than anything is not enough. For the average person to want something more than anything is enough. For an addict it’s not. Because then we have to factor in how cravings and relapses destroy our wants. I believe no matter the drug, an addict can truly want something more than anything some times, but other times that want is overpowered by a need to cope with the drug, or by a powerful craving
If it was as simple as wanting to be sober = being sober for life, drug addiction would be a lot less prevalent. But if the average person wants to be metabolically healthy more than anything, they will be healthy, so long as they don’t have a food addiction
Either way, RIP to this girl. Very tragic, she realized too late that food isn’t worth it

Being over 220 lb at 5'8'' is extremely painful (dont worry i lost a bunch again)
Especially compared to how I felt and performed at 150 lb and very athletic lifestyle.
I can't even begin to imagine how horrible being 300+ lb would feel. And I'm not talking pure muscles.
A lot of people get into pain spirals. Emotional and physical. And for whatever reason convince themselves that eating that extra 3 servings of highly processed chips is fine or it even gives them temporary relief, just like a drug hit. Because their happy and not thinking about their pain when distracted.
Couple that with wow. Or weed. And it's game over. Your own brain will dump addictive chemicals into along with whatever behaviors that are strong as any street drug.
Discipline is key and spirituality is a gateway to that. Setting up your environment is key. If there are no chips in easy reach and celery sticks and yogurt only ur a step ahead. Don't keep a fridge in your room or work area. Be Disciplined like a Bhuddist monk and only eat what is absolutely necessary to survive. And only in your eating spot. And only during specific times if you can help it.
Anyways. Yeah addiction. Obesity. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
Sometimes that cope tho while it trades decades for 5 years is better than suicide, I guess.

Ya, desire is one thing, considering the most effective method is an important other. You mentioned some helpful techniques
The same concept applies to someone who wants to be rich more than anything. If they start in a minimum wage job, it doesn’t matter how hard they work, they could work 60+ hours/week and they will never become rich. They need to work smarter AND harder. Not just harder
I think for the guy in the vid to say when he was younger he wanted to be thin more than anything in the world yet couldn’t get it, I would question how he attempted to evolve his methods. Cravings and relapses can be anticipated and planned for, methods can be improved

You can replace food comfort with other comforts too. Shit cuddle up with a pillow if your desperate. Get under some blankets if you can. If its hot go sit in the shade somewhere nice and quiet with nature and listen to the birbs. If it's hot and outside the UV deathrays time get ur shorts and a bra on and go soak in them after 4pm or before 11am rays. Tons of options to get that natural mental high with some non food related distraction and better behaviors.
Get some Bibles or self help books. If you feel like shit get them on audible or CD.
Plan some kinda activities like this at regular intervals just to train urself even if you don't need it "right now".
Do it before work. After work. And Don't just come home from work. Throw the TV on and eat. Do your skills first. If you're struggling have a friend help or call you or remind u.
Even if you are grieving it's better to be miserable and skinny than miserable and sick and sometimes happy.
You can find peace and serenity outside of food.
If you got anxiety and pain do a ritual and reward yourself with camomile and lavender tea (if female) works great for anxiety.. don't put milk or cream or anything else in it... better yet don't have anything like that in the house. You don't need sugar in anything. Treat urself to that shit 1 day a week outside ur house, at least you get some exercise going to get it then. Helps with cravings.
G-d bless and g-d speed if any of ya'll r struggling 🙏

One could say that muscle is dead weight for a distance run. Well fat is sure as shit dead wright. Stored energy I won’t need due to not enough distance

naw i disagree unshung, i think its good to have some extra fat and allow ur body to burn it up every now and than, prob best or ideal to fluctuate around 2-8% above lean body mass
i had incredible endurance when i was in the army and i was a pudgy endomorphic girly dude so ya it did make STA my #1 stat, good chance to survive a severe injury too if u have healthy arteries + some extra fats to survive on
---- really the human body is so efficient that carrying an extra 10lb isn't going to sink you performance wise except in the harry edge of like 1% performance, so if ur going for absolutely insane speed or agility stats you are v correct. and i mean that from a lean body mass ultra healthy physique not the already 180 but no muscle mass side of the scale --- fat is the #1 easy on the body energy reserve 2 u could literally eat sticks of butter and run on that energy all day, tho i dont recommend for obvious silly reasons, it would be functional and it works for ppl with broken guts (good butter not butter mixed with palm oil)
less so if u just want to be an endless beast

It is funny how RL mirrors RPG’s. The more progress you make, the more tiny and incremental progress becomes. Is true for both muscle gain and fat loss. The hardest lbs to lose, physiologically, are the last extra

My thoughts:
- I really nowadays only truly respect hybrid athletes like Nick Bare or Greg Doucette. If you are super jacked but your cardio/VO2max is dogshit, sorry, YOU AINT FIT!
- Nick’s goal of a sub 2:45 marathon is fuckin crazy for his build, that’s a sub 7min/mile for the full thing
- Dude says he needs to lose around 6lbs to get down to 190 when it looks like he has almost no spare fat to lose. Dude looks like he’s at 10%bf already
- Nick says how effortless it is to run at a 7:40m/mi pace at cool temps versus 90 degrees+ in Texas. Lol, I wouldn’t know man, never got to experience cool temps
- He uses very carefully determined hydration/electrolyte powder mixes which I really need to start figuring out. I take none of that shit, just pre-workout and a shitload of water beforehand. I fill my stomach with water, I call it filling up the gas tank
- Dude runs 75 miles per week which is pretty nuts. I do like 15-18 miles/week. He also does 16 miles+ in a single run one of the days. I end up bombing out my legs with leg lifts multiple times/week making running the next day impossible. Dunno how he avoids this and still trains legs
- His “critical velocity workouts” are HIIT and fuck that, pass. Not at my age. Never been into HIIT. May be why I can’t progress cardio as well but whatever

Dun think so, mostly lab test only I think
Edit: my Aunt who smokes and drinks way too much for her age and is thin but completely sedentary just recently went for some kind of test/checkup at her cardiologist who put her on a treadmill and tested I think it was like blood pressure but may have been VO2max as well
Anyway, they said it rose to nearly stroke levels with mild amounts of intensity exertion, and warned her that she needs to regularly do something active for her heart
A recommendation that she continues to ignore. I’ll have a chat with her about it more and more and keep nagging her

Peter Attia, one of semi-extreme longevity health guru MDs out there, is all about VO2 Max as the number one metric that predicts living a long and fulfilling life health wise.
Apparently folks with good scores in that metric (usually Elite athletes have high V02 Max) can "out health" all sorts of risks of dying that normal people who don't exercise semi-intensely HIIT or intervals would otherwise find fatal.
If a doctor could only take one test of your health of you then a good/high V02 max score is the number one metric predicting how long we live supposedly.

It would be interesting to study what deleterious effect, if any, fat has on cardio
Just because someone has extra fat, does not mean they don’t also have good cardio. I always think heavyweight boxers like Tyson Fury and especially Andrés Ruiz Jr are perfect examples of that. Tyson obviously has much better cardio than Ruiz but if you saw either of them and didn’t know who they were you would assume by looking at them that they could not perform at the level they do in the boxing ring

Roid rage is largely a myth. “Tren” rage would be more like it
Testosterone increases confidence and assuredness, so aggression depends on the person’s personality. Whatever their personality would normally tell them to do, with more confidence and assuredness, those actions will be done with more vigor
Therefore, an already aggressive person will be more aggressive. But a non-aggressive person will not suddenly become aggressive. I don’t care what the mice studies show

Yo yo, sorry was on a camping trip with no cell signal for the weekend, although it was nice to unplug during all this war drama
I am not as competitive with lifting as I am with cardio, although I try to stay above average to what I see in the gym. I may start going harder with lifts again, it’s just at 40+, the risks are much higher than going hard on cardio. I also always do at least 30 min of cardio first in my workouts, when most fitness channels recommend doing cardio after
My lifts are around (I go by 45lb plates since I hate doing the math):
3 plate each side squats for reps. Best ever I did lifetime was 4 plates each side. I only high-back-placed squat, raw, in the squat rack
3 plate each side Romanian deadlifts for reps (these should be higher weight than squats for everyone, but I almost tore some ass tendon going hard years ago and have been spooked ever since. I prefer to just do higher reps and if I really want to suffer, not let the bar touch the ground on some sets, but get really close)
2 plate each side bench, rarely. I have a naturally big chest that actually gets so big it doesn’t look aesthetic compared to the rest of my body so I greatly neglect my chest to keep more in proportion
60lb seated military dumbbells, 35lb each side standing barbell press. I could go higher on standing barbell press but as I fatigue, if I fuck up on my form in the slightest, I can torque my neck in a way where it hurts to look to one side for weeks. Not worth it to me. Had that injury multiple times!
45lb dumbbell curls
Hmm does anyone care about other stuff? I do a lot of diff other lifts, each session is 1.5hrs mostly super-set since I hate sitting and wasting time

Israel Kamakawiwo'ole Lyrics
"Over The Rainbow"
Ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh
Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dream of
Once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
And the dreams that you dream of
Dreams really do come true
Someday, I wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top
That's where you'll find me
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
And the dreams that you dare to
Oh why, oh why can't I?
Well, I see trees of green and red roses too
I'll watch them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Well, I see skies of blue and I see clouds of white
And the brightness of day
I like the dark
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
And also on the faces of people passing by
I see friends shaking hands saying
How do you do?
They're really saying I, I love you
I hear babies cry and I watch them grow
They'll learn much more then we'll know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
World
Someday I wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top
That's where you'll find me
Oh, somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dare to
Why oh, why can't I?

This is bad ass buddy. Have you done Channel Islands National park? I’m wanting to do a 2-3 week cali national parks trip next year but I can’t find anyone familiar with that one
not yet! on the list for sure. i'd like to spend at least 1 night out there in one of the campgrounds though - you don't have a lot of freedom on where you're allowed to hike or camp
I've applied 4x for half dome permits and never got one. So last time I said screw it and beat the rangers up the subdome. Climbed the cables in the dark (had my headlamp) and watched the sun come up.
Clouds Rest wound up being far a far better hike. Less traffic.
i think this was our 7th? year applying for permits. we got up there shortly after the ranger, and she was checking people who were coming down before she got there  i think it's like a $300 fine yikes

half dome was a success. ~16 miles and ~5100' of elevation gain and loss. the cables for the final 400' climb were a traffic jam. once i got back down the cables, i trail ran the entire way back down into the valley to our campsite.
time up- 6 hours

And when I say “double down” I mean on weight!
Go fatter with your models! I’m talking girls with double foopah’s. Girls with back tits. Don’t stop the mass psychological movement to convince people that super fat is beautiful!

Philion dropped the ball on this one:
- Talks about rampant steroid use in the UK, and mentions how many people are open and honest about use nowadays, then titles his video “fake natty invasion” because it’s more hyperbolic. News flash, broheim, someone admitting use is not a “fake natty”
- Claims that people taking steroids don’t “work hard”. Most steroids do not give magical strength, speed, or cardio. If anything most actually hurt cardio. They also don’t magically build muscle without damaging muscle fibers. All they do is assist with greater repair
- In fact, when it comes to “working hard”, there are people who already had a personality to want to focus very hard on training, but were limited on what their body could naturally repair, and decided to boost their ability to repair to match their mental drive to train hard. But Philion wants to pretend that the only people who are drawn to steroids or TRT, are lazy people who want a quick way to cheat
- Philion is a prime example of someone who makes the unfalsifiable claim of “I bet I could look like The Rock if I took the same drugs as him, but I won’t ever prove it, so I can pat myself on the back and claim that I work just as hard as he does”
The reality:
- Drug users work ethic is a spectrum just like non-drug users. Some drug users work harder, some less hard. I would venture that some of the hardest trainers in the world are drug users, people who were already obsessed with their hobby and wanted a pharmaceutical way to continue to do it to an obsessive amount

I would venture that some of the hardest trainers in the world are drug users
I can tell by looking at the physique of the yoked dude that admits use in an interview, that he trains not only harder but better than Philion could imagine. Taking drugs does not grant magic symmetry, good aesthetics. That shit has to be carved and chiseled or else you get weird looking non-symmetrical size
I would bet my truck that if Philion and that guy were in the gym together, Philion would be thinking “oh wow this dude trains harder, for longer, and with better form than I. And he also is doing a bunch of exercises I didn’t even know existed” and then you stack the drug progress on top of that. But the gap would be closer if Philion actually trained as well, in terms of form and knowledge at least. Anyone who lifts for aesthetics can respect that careful work that has to go into really great symmetry in addition to size
Also, if the drug user is training harder, because they can, then there is also a greater mental fortitude needed. Because drugs don’t change the fact that the longer the body is kept in a state of borderline-car-accident levels of torture, be it from either some intense lift session or some crazy endurance run, the longer the brain is battling with the impulse of: “WTF are we in the middle of an actual war? How long has the tiger been chasing us?? FUCKING STAPH ALREADY. STAPH!”. And then the brain has to override that impulse
CNS burnout is a thing and drugs don’t magically protect against that

not specifically in yosemite but i regularly hike ~10-15 miles days at least once a month in my local mountains... usually about 4,000' of gain/loss on the bigger ones. started hiking seriously about 8 years ago and wilderness backpacking maybe 6 years
mountaineering is my main pursuit/hobby now so i have to keep a high base aerobic fitness year round... 3 or 4 nights a week i put on a 40lb weight vest and do a couple miles and ~500-1000' of gain/loss after the kiddo is in bed

Never been out in the bush in Alaska. But I did King Salmon fishing on the Kenai river. Possibly the most fun I've ever had fishing, including ocean salt water fishing adventures. Reeling those suckers in takes effort and time. When you finally get it to the boat you can be quite exhausted. It's been a while, but when I went you could only catch one-a-day officially with many park rangers patrolling the river. Rest had to be thrown back. Highly recommended adventure for those that like to fish.

Girlfriend dragged me to an acro yoga session today. She's been doing it a while and I agreed to join her if she agreed to join me in the gym lol.
Had a pretty good time actually. After an hour or so we were already moving through a number of flows. Seemed like a pretty good workout. And a fun test of functional strength compared to the general numbers game of moving iron around in the gym.
Would recommend.

“Why is he this upset about a guy not wearing a shirt?” - Charle
Uh, because there’s RULES in gyms for a reason. Because if there wasn’t a shirts required rule, every bro with a better physique than this guy (which is a lot of people) would be going shirtless in the gym. Or how about no pants? How about if you like how you look naked, you can just be naked in there. I’m sure that will do good for the “it has been [x] days since the last public molestation” counter….
That being said, it’s staff’s job to throw out that self-loving narcissist shirtless bro

Last time I vacationed in Cali went off the beaten path. If you make out to west coast ever for sight seeing Big Sur area worth checking out. Slightly north of that on the way to SF are Depression era brick bridges that are both antiques and functional. Bixby Bridge if I'm recalling it right. They aren't made like that anymore. While south of Big Sur you have San Louise Obispo and Pismo Beach areas. Completely different vibe compared to Tx National Park if you do up the Pacific Coast Highway on the 1 / 101. Certain parts are cinematic. You can tell certain movies were shot on those roads as you drive.

Interested to see what going up will be like, apparently there are spots where the flow isn’t as bad, but obviously going up there can be no resting without a loss of ground

I told co-worker to tell him losing that fat could improve so many of life’s problems. In addition to more confidence, he’ll also have more testosterone, and a bigger dick. Fat people may not realize but a layer of fat builds up around the shaft, which could cost them more than an inch in size
But still he won’t do it. This is where I wish I could have a service where I go inside someone else’s body to lose the weight for them. I’d have my rate be thousands of dollars once the job’s done and people would pay it :/

https://uphillathlete.com/strength-training/strength-training-for-the-mountain-athlete/
relevant paragraphs here:
Mountain Strong Isn’t Gym Strong
For many, the term strength training conjures images of muscle-bound gym-goers grunting out bicep curls in front of a mirror or chasing a new one-rep max for a particular lift. Banish that from your mind, because that is not what strength training should look like for you as an endurance athlete. A trail runner, mountaineer, climber, or skier ultimately needs to develop event specific functional strength for their given activity, not bulk they’ll then have to haul up a hill, mountain, or route. You simply can’t afford to gain strength at the expense of adding appreciable muscle mass.
Mountain strength training has two primary aims: first, to unlock your full performance potential in your chosen mountain sport; second, to prevent injuries. The goal is not to become stronger at a certain gym-based exercise. You may lift weights to address deficiencies in your general strength, as discussed below. But once you have accomplished that, it will benefit your performance to transition to more sport-specific strength work. In mountain athletics, weightlifting should never be an end unto itself.

Israel Kamakawiwo'ole Lyrics
"Over The Rainbow"
Ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh
Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dream of
Once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
And the dreams that you dream of
Dreams really do come true
Someday, I wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top
That's where you'll find me
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
And the dreams that you dare to
Oh why, oh why can't I?
Well, I see trees of green and red roses too
I'll watch them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Well, I see skies of blue and I see clouds of white
And the brightness of day
I like the dark
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
And also on the faces of people passing by
I see friends shaking hands saying
How do you do?
They're really saying I, I love you
I hear babies cry and I watch them grow
They'll learn much more then we'll know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
World
Someday I wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top
That's where you'll find me
Oh, somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dare to
Why oh, why can't I?
Ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh

I greatly respect Zyzz
The dude was always open and honest about his use of PED's, and he knew the risk, or at least some of the risk since the serious heart defect he was unaware of (this was proven in an autopsy btw, it's not speculation on the part of the family to my knowledge). Had he known that, he may have decided not to ever dabble with them

Zyzz was also open and honest about the side effects that he noticed from his PED's, he's mentioned having big time testicular atrophy and I'm sure would have mentioned the strain on his heart if he was more aware of it
Why all these bodybuilders like him never bothered with HCG is beyond me. All these bodybuilders in vids just accepting "Welp, looks like I have tiny balls for life", when they could easily have prevented that. But too late once atrophy sets in I hear
Then again, my hand doctor said my loss of hand size from muscle atrophy (due to my ulnar nerve issue) was permanent and I grew that muscle back despite his claims
Any loss in grip strength on that side?
Several things can happen when a peripheral nerve is damaged, depending on the extent. Can result in repairable damage with recovery complete enough that anything permanent is unnoticeable.... so these are cases where the nerve sheath is intact and axons can recover better within that scaffold. Certain surgeries can achieve this in wholly severed nerves if performed quickly and skillfully enough.
In cases with long term nerve damage and extensive cell death, recovery of activation for some motor units may not be possible... that link is dead for life.
Both of these can result in muscle atrophy, but recovery can only happen in one of them. Even with loss of motor units, you can get some neurogenesis with remaining motor units expanding their turf a little bit and making up for it in other ways. So you can end up with muscle that has mass but isn't quite as efficient. I get patients with mild spinal cord injuries where their quad is actually fairly decent size, compared to the other side, but you get them on their feet and their knee buckles from weakness.

Yea there is some slight permanent loss of strength, but only in certain movements, like manipulating a toenail clippers or doing a scissors motion
The doctor I really liked (although I’ve had mostly shit doctors for comparison), but he did give me some bad advice. When the nerve came out of socket and my hand went numb, he said not to wait “like 2 years” to have surgery on the arm. Well, when you tell a procrastinator like me not to wait “2 years”, I’m going to wait about a year and a half
But about a year into waiting I noticed my left hand was becoming skeletonized. Terrified, I called up the doc and scheduled the surgery. He took a look at the hand said “sorry, that atrophy is permanent”
I said “nah doc, building muscle is what I do”, and he said “there’s no fibers left to build”
But that wasn’t completely accurate, as the meat came back to my left hand to where you couldn’t even tell with a cursory glance which arm was fucked up now

Get passed so rarely on my cardio mountain climb that it always startles me
Got passed today early on, and took a quick survey. Didn’t recognize the dude (I know most of the few cardio freak people who are faster than me, since they’re people that climb it every day or for some of them twice in a row/day). Had the right build, jacked legs and wiry small upper half. But he was in khaki shorts. Hmmm. Also noticed despite his fast hiking pace, he wasn’t running the straight parts. If you want a 25ish min summit time, you can’t even brisk walk those, you gotta run em
So I figured I’ll probably pass this dude. Sure enough at around the midpoint he had to step to one side to let me by. Eeeeugghh, that’s rough bro. Dude was still fast, finished only about a minute or 2 behind

Climbing elevation is such a force multiplier, it’s amazing. Hockey starts back up Sunday, usually gets me out of a fitness funk. Which I’m currently in, I do have a month no booze or weed and I’m feeling great. Little grace goes along way. Keep up the good work here folks.

I’ve had a lifetime of jealousy ever since I was a kid for people who play team sports. All my fitness endeavors have been solo
The before and after IRL socializing and having to synchronize teamwork is good for the brain. You don’t get that with the solo stuff

Boogie said in some recent documentary that he paid $10,000 for training and travel for the boxing match of the lolcows vs WingsOfRedemption, and he only made 10k so it was a wash
I’m thinking breugh, I don’t think you ever threw a punch. You didn’t even look at your opponent, most of the time you were looking in a random direction before getting punched in the head. You paid $10k (or part of it) for that “training”?
I don’t think it was humanly possible to be a shittier boxer, so that training did fuckall

did a big dayhike today that i've wanted to check off my list for a while, it was brutal even tho the stats don't suggest it
~13 miles 4,400' gain
ended up having miles of bushwack, literally at times crawling on my hands and knees through tunnels of bramble, thistle, poison oak
was a total sufferfest but type 2 fun, i'll laugh about it later
If you're a fan of The Suck™ hit Sinkyone Wilderness in December and enjoy getting rainblasted while slogging through this shit:
https://i.imgur.com/nqXhlnI.jpg
No joke though this is my favorite trek in California. (https://www.redwoodhikes.com/Sinkyone/LostCoast.html) When it comes to coastal views, people hype about Big Sur, but Sinkyone is a fraction as crowded, far more remote, and gorgeous if you haven't been. At least that was the case last time I did it in 2012, could have become more popular since then.
Fun fact: I did the road into Usal Beach (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnrY5ih4CfU), in March, while muddy, in a 2001 Toyota Camry lol
https://i.imgur.com/cIlMDjy.jpg
Little Jackass Creek (not to be confused with Jackass Creek, which is further down the trail at Wheeler Beach) has the most attractive campground of the hike. For that matter, it’s one of the most attractive campgrounds in any redwood park. It’s one of the highlights of the hike. Located in a lush glen surrounded by precipitously steep, high, redwood-covered hills, the campground is set in an old-growth redwood grove (maybe part of the Sally Bell Grove), with 10 or 12 medium-sized redwoods visible from the trail. There aren’t actually a lot of places where you can camp under old-growth redwoods, and none of them can really compare to this campground. Unusually, there are also maples; the lighter foliage of the maples contrasts with the darker, more formal-looking redwoods and gives the grove a distinctively friendly, leafy appearance. The burbling of a little brook fills the grove, even in late summer. A short trail leads to a secluded beach. In fact the entire area is so secluded that even on a Labor Day weekend, I didn’t see a single person in the area all day.

As someone who’s tried a lot of legal and illegal stuff, I don’t think any herbal supplement is more powerful than Yohimbe. I know dose is a huge factor and I don’t remember typical dosages, but that should not be sold as a dick pill or for weight loss
Anyone who thinks anxiety isn’t really a thing, should try the Yohimbe challenge: take about 5 or 6 pills at once. You will be so uncomfortable. Racing heart. Mental anxiety and sometimes dread. I was getting palpitations from taking 2 on the way to the gf’s house. The only other time I felt palpitations was coming down from coke, and Yohimbe is legal and commercially sold
Anyway, this dude at 300x the recommended dose and got a fast pass to Seizure World

This weekend drove with Pa to a hotel on the California border part of the Colorado river for the most competitive and biggest….I don’t even know the term….”paddle sports” race? They had all these different watercrafts there; I believe the bigger ones are called “outriggers” because I noticed the teams were “outrigger clubs” from various states, complete with cute matching uniforms
And apparently “paddle sports” is a big deal in Hawaii, so there were a lot of Hawaiians who were clearly pro’s. Talking yoked-out Hawaiian dudes with beautiful expensive hand carved paddles and wearing all their pro gear complete with a film crew. Dad and I were talking to one who said he flew in from Hawaii, and I was like “why the hell would anyone come to AZ from Hawaii? Have you seen how it is here?” He laughed and basically said just for the race
We got to take a look around the day before the race when we got there, and I realized kayaks were the minority of crafts on the river, and also the least expensive. There were these huge fuckers that apparently cost as much as a car:
https://i.ibb.co/Js6xTQN/IMG-3660.jpg (https://ibb.co/3C6fbzw)
https://i.ibb.co/XYs8ynV/IMG-3661.jpg (https://ibb.co/GH2TsZF)
And I realized that we stood no chance even against these sleek 17”+ whatever-the-fuck-they-are racing crafts. There were more people there from CA than AZ even. I was talking to these middle aged ladies from CA and they casually mentioned how they’re whatever these things are called (I forget, so many diff boat names to remember that day) cost $4,500. And that was starting. The others said theirs were between $5k-8k. So I’m assuming most of the Californians at this thing were rich. And that we were screwed, because those things are fast as fuck

Race morning had to be up at 6am to start getting ready, and typical for me in races I was going on almost no sleep (I don’t sleep well at home much less in some hotel). And it turns out, this was not nearly enough layers. Because it was like 30 degrees out that early and I had to get my ass in the water
https://i.ibb.co/0mR1JzB/IMG-3729.jpg (https://ibb.co/7jdBy0g)
upload a pic (https://imgbb.com/)
https://i.ibb.co/0sT4t9L/IMG-3706.jpg (https://ibb.co/cY0fL89)
Race started at 8am and by then I could strip off the ski jacket I was wearing, and luckily for this race I was able to listen to my own screechy techno music with earbuds rather than Dad’s speaker. This was a huge advantage for me, because I perform much better to my own music than someone else’s or none
https://i.ibb.co/418zYSY/IMG-3707.jpg (https://ibb.co/phfcRKR)
It was confusing, because some guy with a megaphone was calling out each craft type with its own start time, and us poor people in our kayaks were last to go. But even though those other crafts could go many times faster with far less effort, if anyone piloting had to stop or slow down at all, they were at risk of us catching them. Because Dad and I can go for miles at a fast pace with no slowing or stopping
Off we went, me cranking as hard as I could (pacing myself for the 5miles). The only time I remotely slowed down was when I was rounding the giant inflatable star buoy that marked the halfway “turn around and come back” spot, I slapped that fucker as I went around it. Other than that it was about an hour and 20 minutes of non-stop hard rowing, I know because I had to re-start my hour long techno song (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6lMMnOnd0ws)
I was having an absolute blast and passed a few of the (usually gals) slower people even in their fancy $5k water space ships. The only downside was I hadn’t prepped enough water due to everything being frantic getting to the start line in time, and dad was also dehydrated so I tossed him my water bottle 15 seconds before they called our group to start. So I was dehydrated to where my mouth was crusted shut for the second half. And all the River water was so tempting despite looking kinda gross. I thought maybe I could scoop some into my mouth and spit it out and not get sick, but didn’t
Dad is normally faster than me because his yak is much longer and thinner, meant for racing, but he also was going on no sleep and dehydrated. On the last 1/3 mile in I caught a strong second wind and was pulling so hard on the paddles both hands were completely numb. I passed him and tried to motivate him yelling lines from Troy at him:

Unfortunately, Dad had no chance of catching me in the last 1/3, so I beat him. And apparently people talking to my dad said they thought I got second place of all kayakers when he told them my number
I believe I should have been first place, not second, with dad as second place, not third. Because no one in a kayak passed us or was remotely close to us. What we think happened is the first place guy was confused like us and false-started with the other craft types. I almost did it myself, seeing all the other boats taking off and frantically yelling to dad “Everyone’s going? Should we go?” A false start would have meant more than a 15 minute lead
So anyway, I got second overall for the kayakers. Didn’t expect to even place, so that was cool
https://i.ibb.co/09MM1mC/IMG-4144.jpg (https://ibb.co/6tPPGrH)
Next year we want to do the 10 mile version. Which we easily could have done this year dad just was apprehensive due to having thrown out his back a few months before

Yea I had heard of that one too. Sounded like an interesting idea, but not all that enthused about ever trying it
To me there’s a line between a test of strength and endurance, and pointless self-inflicted torture. Did ya’ll know there’s a “haunted house” that no one has ever completed? A co-worker was telling me about it. You have to sign all these waivers and then they just basically torture the living shit out of you until you give up. Now, they can’t peel your fingernails off, but supposedly they feed you and make you sit in disgusting stuff, and even are allowed to like waterboard you towards the end
There’s also “manosphere” retreats put on by “TRT NPC” men who want to roleplay being an army drill Sargent. And at their retreats you can spend thousands of dollars to have them force you to crawl in the mud while they spray in you face with freezing cold water and call you a bitchy pussy for a week straight. And then they’ll give you some medal or a hatchet or some stupid trinket and call you a man because you willingly let them live out their drill Sargent torture fantasies for a week
For me, pass on all that shit. Tough Mudder and Spartan are about the limits of what I am down to pay money for to prove myself. That is unless something really awesome comes along that piques my interest

Been slacking on timed runs since I won the last 5k
And unfortunately cardio (vo2max) degrades faster than muscle when not pushed
So this feels like a pace I can maintain indefinitely, but unfortunately is 20s/min slower than my recent best 5mi, and a full min/mile slower than my last race 5k
I have about a month and a half to whittle this down, and expand the distance to 8ish miles, maybe 10. I don’t ever need to train the full half-m, the adrenaline of the race usually carries me the last 1/4ish
Anytime I lose ground in fitness, I feel the Linkin Park song playing in my head….it feels so hard to build, and so goddamn easy to lose

Setup my weight bench in the barn yesterday.
Setup three templates, Chest/Shoulders - Back/Arms - Legs.
Picked 5/6 lifts for each template. I've never really lifted weights, I did it when I was in high school and we did it for sports but never really as an adult.
Doing my best to keep it simple here. I end up getting drowned in information when I try and optimize something new. I did the same thing with Piano, I started that and am doing decent but early on I really went over board on how to get started...instead of just starting.

For the last 2 years I changed up my lift routine. I have some buddies that swear by lifting muscle groups (push/pull divison) but I've always felt my body responds best to upper body/lower body. Mon/Wed/Fri upper, Tue/Thur/Sat lower, Sunday rest (yea verily it be thy day if the lord *Catholic cross with that fingas).
I might not be able to train each muscle group quite as much, but this ends up being better for me.
I've always *hated* squats, so I'll do deadlifts and then do a weighted lunge instead. Not quite as total body, but I've got a shit back, and even with good form seems to fuck me up doing squats with any amount of weight.

Lifting is great for your bone health
When you lift weights your bones bend ever so slightly and when that happens your body goes “OH SHIT! Mah bones just almost bent a little! We need bone reinforcement, stat!” And it begins to grow new stronger bone tissue
I dunno the actual process, osteo-something. But exercise scientists say the best thing you can physically do for your bone health is lift

Found this interesting, good production value
For me, I have my own language: what I consider a “null” step whether running or speed hiking, is a step that produces no lactic acid and seems to consume no energy. Basically a free step. And at a certain pace, they all become free, which is what allows me to still hike on legs sore from previous day
But increase the pace, and to me the lactic acid is a “stack”, and there is an algorithm working in the muscle to dump off the bottom of the stack. So either the stack is being built too fast, or else the pace is to where the entire stack can be dumped, essentially resetting the legs to neutral
But on a fast 400m, neither of these can happen

Origen not being banned is proof that the bias is there.

how? as far as I know he actually hasn't posted anything that's bannable like hate speech, racism, and bigotry targeting real-life groups (see here- https://project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=426330 ) if he has, please report it and it would be a well-deserved ban.
did he condemn a specific terror act? no, but that's not bannable. nobody is forced to post anything against their will or make any sort of claim.
it was certainly a successful troll too. look at the body count of banned posters.
people posting literal unhinged racist shit get banned and deserve it. please try a bit of introspection.

booter. I have defended you in the past. Origen is by far the most racist poster on these boards. Consistently. You are simply wrong on this one, booter.
It doesn't appear there is honesty happening on your part with regard to Origen. This is a choice you are making. Others can see through it.
That is all.

all anyone has to do is show the post where he is racist, uses hate speech, or bigotry targeting real-life groups. nobody has done that so far. you all have a very emotional response to his posting and have these claims about what he is saying, but never provide proof -- or he would be banned.
