I'll start with my reasons. Try to keep them simple and in a personal perspective. I'm hoping if we keep it simple straight forward and personal to ourselves we'll get a good picture of why the people who post here... but don't bolster the population aren't regular players. I'm unsure of the servers future.
Server feels lonely and empty.
Lack of personal time to devote to a lonely and empty server.

PvP in EverQuest is kinda like if they had a League of a Legends match type where you just kill minions and monsters. It isn't in the spirit of the game, the balance of the game. Also, the server is 90% sociopaths and eThugs.
