I hadn't built a desktop in over 10 years, and only with my dad. In fact, I haven't owned a desktop in that long, been through several laptops, so getting a desktop is really nice. It was fun to get my hands on the hardware level since my only real focus in computer science has been writing software. Of course, it was a pretty straight forward process, and I'm very happy with the results. Linux installed in like half a second. I bought most of the parts locally and got a bulk homie discount, some of the prices were better than Newegg and Amazon. It was around 2 grand.

Looks similar to the build I'll be creating. I see you went with the i7, I made a few sacrifices to go with a bigger SSD, although it's still just saved in my newegg/amazon cart.

Intel i5 4670k CPU
Gigabyte GTX 770
16GB G.Skill RAM
Asus ROG Maximus V Mobo
Samsung Evo 840 500GB SSD
WD 2TB HDD
X-FI titanium HD soundcard
Corsair H90 Liquid CPU cooler
Seasonic Gold Rated 650W PSU
Windows 7 OEM (I like to have the DVD with serial key =p)
Asus Blu Ray/DVD player
Fractal Black Case with Window

Total cost is right around 2k for all of that maybe just a bit under.

Subject to change, the SSD definitely boosts the costs but cant underestimate being able to store top gaming titles on SSD instead of just OS. Would become eq god of zone dancing.

Nice set up, those speakers and subwoofers should definitely be relocated though, not getting the most out of your acoustics.

She goes crazy over sweaters, oddly enough.
