Reading only the negative reviews of WWZ is pretty lolworthy, these critics unable to get over the differences between the book and the movie.
Last I checked when you review a film you review the film based on the film not based on how close or far it is to a written title with the same name. Butthurts.

If you do not want comparison, do not take the financial bump slapping the name on it. Im kinda sad goyer wrote himself into a corner in this script and had to have superman do some....non superman things. Batman has no joy. Superman is hope and joy and humanity personified. But that is a personal look at the mythos. And nobody has written superman well since grant morrison in all star superman tweens won't care tho. Spend dad's money

The Vash/Legato moment at the end was the perfect example of that. Superman is a fictional character placed in a fictional city in a world that is supposed to represent the real world. In the real world you can't save everyone, even if you're Superman.

I watched Superman today and I give it 10/10. I don't know what hell critics are smoking, this aint Lord of the Rings where you want them to tell the whole story...
I love the destruction and story-line which is long enough to keep me entertained. Will watch it again [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Singer made it abundantly clear what the movie was from the first trailer of Superman Return. People just did not listen. The first moment is Marlon fucking Brando talking . You gave the biggest Donner fanboy in the universe reigns to the franchise and did not expect him to basically remake that movie? The IDEA of superman, batman and wonder woman are woven into the past, present, and future of DC. That's been the entire point of them. DC has always been about IDEAS. Superman is Superman because he is the IDEA of Truth and Justice...It makes it ENTIRELY too difficult to write him effectively. Superman isn't a man, he isn't a christ figure either. But he WILL save everybody, that's his point, because he is an IDEAL. He's not an emo fuck. He's CAN be sad, but his POINT is to overcome it. He CAN be lonely, but he takes solace in the world as his family. He does have emotions. If you want questionable moral choices, see every fucking marvel comic ever. It's like Goyer went straight to the Joker v Batman theme in the Dark knight and made him break the rules of superman to win. A good writer could have pulled it off with out doing the ending (hard not to spoil and make my point). See the ending of the batman animated red hood movie for example, Or Mask of the Phantasm. It was real, heartfelt, not a cop-out. I understand wanting to make it different then the ending in superman 1. But it could have used a tiny bit more...thought. Superman is super SMART. That..in itself is the hardest part to write about him. It is difficult to make conflict when someone has the ability to tactically out smart you then punch you through the moon. That's why he's always de-powered, or kryptonited or some bullshit. Batman is a street level dark avenger, who would never waver until he ends a fight against the IDEA of crime. Batman can't and wont save everyone. Wonder woman is the ideal of truth in the face of anything ( and BDSM) she stands up for her home and life against the corruption of others and can't save everyone. Superman is the ideal of the human condition, the ideal of humanity is for tragedy to not happen at all. Superman. SAVES. That's why he can lift a mountain of kryptonite and throw it into space aka returns. He can do it, because if we needed to, we could do it. While I am sure it is part of some 3 movie trilogy arc. Where he becomes what superman is as an idea. Which is what they did with Batman, but nobody liked the third Batman when it pushed more towards the comic bookish. Put superman in a position to inspire the world and he will.

I saw Man of Steel today, and I feel very underwhelmed. Some nice camera work, and the first half of the movie was great, then it was just explosions and dumb lines from the bad guys.

I saw it. I dug it ok. I did have a problem with the climatic fight, at least how it ended. I thought there could have been more story line of him growing up. But it was casted well. I thought Cavill was a great Superman. And Amy Adams was the best Lois that any media that's not the comic has put forth in a long time. I think I would have rather seen Russell Crowe play Zod instead of Jor-El, but Michael Shannon was excellent so no problem there. And plenty of room for sequels.
I agree with Radditsu, too. Superman's character just isn't....super. The whole feel was a bit more gritty. Maybe that's just a reflection on society; that's what it takes to put butts in theater seats. (and yeah, All-Star Superman is fucking stellar, too) Still, enjoyed the flick. I will go see any sequel that is made. Now on to World War Z.
