Man of Steel/World War Z

Both sitting at 80% on RottenTomatoes after the pre-screenings.

Fingers crossed. :)

I'm excited about both.

Should have titled World War Z something else. Now, I (and likely most people who read the book) will compare it to Brooks' work and find the movie lacking. Hear the only thing similar between the two is the title.

Reminds me a bit of how I Am Legend the movie completely missed the point of the novel. I Am Legend was a spectacularly mediocre movie. Hoping WWZ will be better, but not holding my breath.

Looks like Man of Steel fell to 70. After reading a bunch of the negative reviews it's apparent that the bulk of them are critical of the movie solely because of the fact that they can't get over the movies from 35 years ago and that this new movie dares to differentiate from the style of those movies.

Still excited to see it Thursday night. :)

Which I find interesting, because that's the same reason Superman Returns was such an epic fail. They tried to give them a movie exactly like the iconic ones of years past and found that we've outgrown our taste for that style of campy storytelling. I think Man of Steel will be a breath of fresh air in a franchise that's gotten the shaft for a long time.

The critics are all over how bad World War Z is here... but maybe they haven't been paid to say nice things. We have one newspaper here who we can judge a movie on. Basically if they're raving about how good it is, it's going to suck...every time.

that one that came out earlier was terrible because of the acting. spacey mailed it in and i'm not sure that anyone else was trying.

Man of Steel. It's opening while extremely visually breathtaking left a bit to be desired from a storytelling perspective. Space faring civilizations should not go extinct when a single planet blows up... ever.
With that said... everything after that point was excellent and the fighting was (nearly) Avengers tier.

Would recommend.
