Necro Pet or Mage Pet?

Can you go into a little more detail about why you say Mage for leveling faster then Necro? That is part of the things that I am basing my decision on. I know life would be easier as a mage since I wouldnt be evil, but aside from that, what about a Mage levels faster then a Necro? Also, in regards to group, which do you think offers more / would be taken over then other?

Yeah I don't understand that statement either.

According to what I could find in researching, neither Dark Elves nor Gnomes have a racial XP penalty on Project 1999. Both necros and mages share the same XP gain. So as far as levelling goes, yes picking Iksar would be slower but a mage and necro of the same race should level at the same speed.

If I remember from EQ back in the day, necros usually fear kite mobs while slowing them with darkness snares. Mages just straight up tank using pet and blast with DPS. Necros have more utility to get out of tough situations, while mages are probably welcomed more in groups.

Personally I think either are ok. I picked necro just because I like the lore and atmosphere of an evil undead master. Mages sounded fun too. I like their pets.
