Necro Pet or Mage Pet?
 

Which class has the stronger pet? I know Mages got the diff kinds with different abilities like root, dmg shield etc. But in general when it comes to soloing, or even grouping as a Pet class, which pet generally puts out more DPS then the other?

Im gona give Mage or Necro a shot, so just trying to figure out which Id like better. Im assuming Necro focus's on dots, and Mage is more nukes, which means group wise, Mage would prob be taken before a Necro would, ya? But the opposite for soloing?

Also, High Elf for Mage, Iksar for Necro?

Can you go into a little more detail about why you say Mage for leveling faster then Necro? That is part of the things that I am basing my decision on. I know life would be easier as a mage since I wouldnt be evil, but aside from that, what about a Mage levels faster then a Necro? Also, in regards to group, which do you think offers more / would be taken over then other?

Yeah I don't understand that statement either.

According to what I could find in researching, neither Dark Elves nor Gnomes have a racial XP penalty on Project 1999. Both necros and mages share the same XP gain. So as far as levelling goes, yes picking Iksar would be slower but a mage and necro of the same race should level at the same speed.

If I remember from EQ back in the day, necros usually fear kite mobs while slowing them with darkness snares. Mages just straight up tank using pet and blast with DPS. Necros have more utility to get out of tough situations, while mages are probably welcomed more in groups.

Personally I think either are ok. I picked necro just because I like the lore and atmosphere of an evil undead master. Mages sounded fun too. I like their pets.

If the question is simply which is stronger? Mage by far.

Mage pet > Necro pet

Necro > Mage

With the pet nerf a Mage is not a fast leveling toon anymore solo. In reality they are a pain in the ass now. But true they get into groups a lot more than a necro. But if you are a Enchanter in a group you will hate Mage pets trust me.

A mage really has no Crowd Control for crap. So be prepared to Gate a lot. A necro gets Feign Death a real nice life saver. And a Iksar is the best for Necro because of the health regen with Litch line of spells.

This is super not true. All you have to do is reclaim your pet when the monster is fleeing and hit it with a low-level nuke. Still very fast.

Casting a new pet for each mob fought? Christ, I'd rather find a group/duo :p
