Enchanter is #1 solo class? What is this madness

Yah, I came out of seb with almost a full stack of fire opals - about 10-15 diamonds, blue diamonds, sapphires. In just gems I think I made like 7-8k from 57-60 there. plus a bunch of DW Bracers to vendor. The froglok ostiary also spawns outside the room who drops Donal's Vambraces. Also when I felt brave I tried Gruplinort.

Oh yeah, and I got bored and started charming every mob in disco and giving them a Beetle Stinger before releasing them.

I didnt play back then, but agreed Seb is best. Best lore, best aesthetic, best camps. Awesome drops too.

Our emulator clearly doesn't emulate the original, and it's clear the person in charge of the server wants things to remain that way. It's his server, so it will. Nevertheless, I remain appreciative for the 95% of the server that is classic, and I can't really fault Nilbog for keeping his pet class unclassicly powerful: I certainly don't have the talent or energy to build a 95% classic server and run it for over a decade, so I can't really complain .

You have mentioned several times throughout this thread that enchanter is Nilbog's "pet class". Is that something Niblog has declared or how do you know?

It's inferred from the fact that Nilbog is fanatical about making everything else classic here, but when it comes to charming being way easier than it was on live ...

In other words I don't know, but I'd bet you $20 that if we could get Nilbog to say what class he played on live, it would be Enchanter.

For what it's worth when I talked to him and asked that question on IRC years ago (around 2009-2010ish) he answered Paladin. He also agreed at the time that lull is extremely OP here on P99...yet here we are. Enchanter sure seems like somebody's pet class on P99, but not necessarily his specifically. Maybe a friend of the admins likes it and they do him a favor. Who knows? At this point I don't care about seeing it changed anymore for the existing servers; 15+ years of P99 history outweighs 2-3 years of original to me. It's far too late for it to matter to me anymore. What's it going to do, improve the few hours a month I still play? Now that type of change is just kicking the proverbial ladder out from under the folks still on their way up. Save it for a new P99 if/when we eventually get one.

Bog was a half elf pal and IIRC also a mag. There's a classic screenshot of his paladin, forget where. Best I could find was long ago on p99.

Huh, you learn something new every day. Maybe it was Rogean's class, or the class of another dev (who wrote the relevant code ... and that code is too gnarly for Nilbog to mess with?)

I honestly don't know why P99 is the way it is, but it's frustrating that they work so hard on making everything else classic, and ignore what everyone who played in Classic knows is unclassic (ie. the title of the thread).

Its like they wrote a Street Fighter 2 emulator where Zangief is the fastest character, but instead of addressing it they just keep adjusting the hadouken damage by a point or two. And meanwhile the Zangief players (now the most popular character) keep repeating that Zangief was always like that in the original game, but older players just weren't as good at playing him.

Absolutely. It makes no sense to fix Green (unless they need to test the fix for 2.0) ... but there's no reason I can see not to fix it in 2.0.

I've played a lot of classes to 60 here, and even more to the 40s and 50s, but I've never taken an Enchanter past low levels because I want to play the real/classic Enchanter I never got to play on live. The classic Enchanter might not be as easy as the P99 version, but it was still a great (and solo-capable) class.

I dream of Green 2.0 letting me play that class.
