preference mainly... i wanted to add Wizard/Necro to the mix but im not able to edit the post.

It would be rough to start as a tank or hybird class with no gear or plat.

I solo 90% of the time as well so thats another reason for the classes i picked.
I see. It comes down to how easy you want it to be...Druid is probably the easiest in my opinion, only because there is no research required as there are for the Necro and Magician pets and other spells at higher levels. Bard is easy to solo as well, but there is a learning curve to the class. I do not think you should discredit the Shadow Knight for not only its soloing capabilities, but for the fun-factor of the class! I had a blast with my Shadow Knight. You only need about 100pp or so to get a set of banded and you will be okay for a while. After you start fear kiting with your pet, you don't get hit too often unless you mess up, and that can happen with any class. Wizard is good too, but that downtime between kills is rough! I had a cleric one time and soloed with him, and it was........interesting....not impossible, but not easy either and you are restricted to undead MOBs. Enchanter "can" be easy, but you really have to know what you are doing and pay attention. I guess it all comes down to your personal frustration level and time.

Anyway, for what its worth, my top five solo classes at this point in time in order from best to worse:

1. Druid
2. Bard
3. Enchanter
4. Necromancer
5. Magician

I would like to add, however, that I just started new as well because I couldn't get into my accounts due to the SMS verification bug and there are plenty of groups still. Of course, solo if ya want, but if you are worried about the zones being dead, they are not!

Enchanter is not only one of the best soloers and best grouping classes but pretty much has no benefit from having started early in Classic.

Epic is a bit of a pain but also not mandatory.

Enchanter will always be the best pick, question is if you’d enjoy it. Some people think it’s a hard class but even a poorly played enchanter beats most others.

I have a 55 enc on blue. He’s probably my best geared toon tbh. He was twinked when I made him though. I love charm killing but I’m worried how that might turn out with no cha gear starting out. Thoughts?

CHA doesn't have much effect on charming, only helps the initial cast land.

The real benefit of CHA for enc is to lower crit resist chance on pacify fail and to increase mem blur chance.

I just started enc recently, but many people who have played enc have told me enc can level in cloth armor with some easily-found droppable pieces as you level.

When it comes to solo dungeon crawls, that sa diff story. You want to be able to reliably Paci without a crit resist. Same with mem blurs.. can spend a lot of extra mana trying to mem blur something after a charm kill, or to shake aggro, etc. But it's doable

I didn’t know that! I always thought charisma effected the duration of your charms along with the MR and level of the mob. If what you’re saying is true then it might be worth it to roll an enchanter instead of a Druid to start out fresh on a server. Once you get a gob gazu ring then enchanter becomes a lot easier imo

The answer is enchanter.

Druid if you're just not a good player.

Having recently had to get my corpse out of HS north nekkid, less my soul bound keys, I'd say no CHA isn't a deal breaker.

Being gimped by not having a gcd clickie was much more of a factor, not sure its possible to get off the quick cast aoe stun + aoe mez fast enough on zone in w/out one.

What race is your enchanter? My 55 Enc on blue is high elf but im thinking about rolling dark elf for the hide to break charm.
