In my opinion, the level 1 druid spell lightsource is about equal to a fire beetle eye; the fire beetle eye is readily available in the newbie yard or off a vendor (and cheaper than the spell). A lightstone is much better than a fire beetle eye, and a greater lightstone slightly better than a regular one. Basically, loot or buy a lightstone asap.

The advantage to the spell is that if you need the inventory slot you can just destroy it and resummon later after you sell that cracked staff you spotted when your inventory was full.

Alas! Neither of us gets the cracked staff. Zodium sees it first with his lantern.
