As a Druid I have the ability to summon a lightsource, are the higher level versions much better?

Are fire beetle eyes or other easily found items better than the candle or summoned stone?

How about quests that provide or reward containers?

Greater lightsource is about as classic as it gets. You have to sacrifice a bag slot, but it's totally worth it and will be fine right up to level 50(+)

Pro Tip- Ask a 16 mage for a heatstone or a 39 mage for a coldstone. They go in the ammo slot.

In my opinion, the level 1 druid spell lightsource is about equal to a fire beetle eye; the fire beetle eye is readily available in the newbie yard or off a vendor (and cheaper than the spell). A lightstone is much better than a fire beetle eye, and a greater lightstone slightly better than a regular one. Basically, loot or buy a lightstone asap.

Oh, forgot container... you get one in Qeynos by starting the tax collection quest. Dont finish the quest, just keep the container.

buy a large lantern for like 2gp and call it a day

It's weird because the .jp reference we have there for that says Globe of Stars was the brightest, but in 2006 that entire tier of lighting was brought down to Large Lantern level.
So now there's "no item of this type". But we totally have Globe of Stars, it's a level 9 Druid spell.

Is this information just lost forever? It didn't matter at all until darkness just recently returned.

Thank you for the replies! The starting candle isn't so bad and I'll need a fire beetle eye anyways. Just fixed my shaders so much of my problem was fixed just by doing that.

I'll look into the Tax Collector. Any other container quests people know of?

The advantage to the spell is that if you need the inventory slot you can just destroy it and resummon later after you sell that cracked staff you spotted when your inventory was full.

Heatstone is PRIMARY/SECONDARY/NECK unfortunately. Whole reason i bailed on an Erudite Mage. didn't want to give up a neck slot.
