Did you ever get a solution? I'm in a similar position. Petitioned for a surname removal on one of my characters a few days ago and never heard back or had my surname removed.

Don't want to bug the volunteer staff or tempt the gods. Just want to know if I should petition again or if this is pretty normal, and they'll get to me when they get to me.
