I feel I'm succeeding when I'm having fun playing the game. Either taking down boss mobs in a dungeon with a group of friends or exploring the little things like weird quests and empty zones I missed back on live so many years ago.

No "game" should be a job where one earns pixels.
Pretty much.

Personally I've had and continue to have great fun doing the group game with friends on here. I've played all of Live, multiple TLP servers, just about every EMU server, and in the end there really isn't a server around that offers what P99 does in terms of a well polished "old school" experience.

If you're in this to raid and poopsock and look down your nose at some scrubby geared casual that has fun here and think he hasn't succeeded, then you're wrong. If you're some scrub casual that thinks the high end raider with a massive pixel bulge hasn't succeeded, again, you're wrong too. It goes both ways.

Stop judging others and focus on your own agenda. If you can't enjoy this server for what it is, just stop playing. It really is that simple.

Success for me is being to clear the Bar/Chef area of Sebilis fast enough when pulling that I can start pulling mobs into camp with my Singing Steel Helm Eye of Zomm while also playing songs in camp without aggroing a ton of mobs and wiping my group. If I get to tank for the group in that situation, that's even better.

That was my favorite thing to do when I played EQ, and being able to do that stuff felt fun and like success to me.

What is more sad wasting your life playing a game you enjoy or quitting that game but then still hanging around the forums and posting about how great it was to quit?

Best thing they could do for this server is to find a way to ban all forum accounts from people who don't even play the damn game.
This made me lol. I question that persons "freedom"

If you avoid rage quitting or deleting characters out of frustration, only to try the same character again, you win.

Well since there is no real end to the game, I guess the ultimate success would be max level and best of slot gear in every slot.

Success for Brut is when convinces some random fat ugly ogre somewhere to change from hideous moss face to the beef face.

You've succeeded in EQ the minute you can prioritize other hobbies over EQ. If you NEED to login to EQ, you haven't succeeded yet. Also, Macequest...

Some players think they are successful if they have tons of plat which they use to buy upgrades for their toon. My opinion differs significantly. In my opinion success is measured in the gear your toon has that you looted, not bought and the friends you have that helped you obtain upgrades for your toon. Plat is mostly meaningless IMO. I don't think this game was intended to compete with Monopoly. If you bought all your gear you suck IMO. Try another game.
This approach is wrong for EverQuest, because it's one of the easiest -don't do any thing and get rewards- MMOs.

How many silly little girlfriends and wives(half of which don't even really want to play the game) are being power leveled to raid level, gifted or 'gearedup' and then tagging along during loot groups and raids? Most of the time being afk (or some male plays their character) and then come back on in time to loot or have someone loot gear for them?

You think THAT deserves more praise than people who actively solo or small group camp difficult mobs and then invest in a marketplace so they can turn a profit? No money is not meaningless, especially in an active economy in games like EverQuest. Maybe in modern MMOs where there is noting but an anonymous auction house, money is less relevant.

If you hate the money game so much, then you'd really hate all those afk twit wives who end up being the guild treasurer and start black holing high end gear, ending up with millions of plat.

The measure of success in a game like EverQuest? Is whether you enjoy what you do based on the the amount of time you put into it.
