Yes, you could drop coin in classic. I have screenshots of me dropping coins "artistically" in LGuk. It is a limitation of Titanium client.

Due to the Firepot scam where you could Drop your coin on the ground
and have a friend pick it up before an announced Downtime/patch
and log back in after the downtime and essentially duping your plat...

I heard thats why they got rid of it on live, but i could be wrong

I remeber the vendors buying items for more than they would sell, every time it became public it would be moved to a new npc... classic.
