Made it back to Texas. Took 18 days. My son flew up to anchorage and my wife flew to Denver to help take care of his kids. Son and I drove back with my truck and camper and we stayed in the camper usually 1-2 days at a time and got a hotel 1 night for a shower. Hiked and camped all across Canada, Stone Mountain provincial park, Jasper, Banff, Muncho lake, etc. didn’t do as much in the US. We saw 26 bears in Canada. Most just while driving, but we encountered 5 black bears hiking. Luckily the 4 grizzlies we saw were while driving. Two were in Jasper National park just before icefields parkway, two were outside Watson Lake, Canada

Anyway, I highly recommend everyone at least drive from Banff to Jasper and back again. I thought Jasper to Banff was more scenic, although I did the latter more recently (over a year apart) so maybe that’s why

Tinder date catfished me, but I still had fun mostly because Main Event is awesome. It’s like a more fun Dave n Busters. They have this aerial obstacle rope/bridge course where you anchor yourself to the ceiling. Not only is it fun and a good workout, I’ve read before that a brief sense of danger (which isn’t real, since you are clipped in), can heighten attraction. O shit, I watch a YouTube channel dedicated to true stories about romance scams called Scamfish. That’s crazy you know someone who had it happen. The ones I hear about are surprisingly sophisticated and almost always from Laos, Nigeria

But that wasn’t what happened for me. That’s the ultra-extreme version of catfishing, but the term just means to look worse than your pic, which is what happened for me. I’ve had friends, co-workers, and family tell me they’ve just bailed right then if the date looked noticeably worse than their pic, but I’m a people-pleaser and could never do that. I’ll still stick out the date and be engaging no matter what they look like

Plus nowadays most people know how to take a really good pic, and some people edit further with filters. So almost everyone, including me, catfishes their date to some degree. It’s just that Friday it was pretty bad. But she was happily bouncing in place as I walked up, so no way in fuck am I going to go “oh hell no” and leave right then. Would be devastating. We’re camping straight up in the bush with no fences. In HS you're there for XP, not loot (unless at south cubby). Enc + necro is far more XP per hour. You don't keep pets, you send them into big packs of mobs to eat all the HTs. Break, charm another, and keep going.

Necro is great for backup mez and will have enough heals to keep you topped off. Plus they can FD and rez if shit really goes south.

No doubt cleric + enc is the best for mowing down stuff outside of HS though.

As for the one meal thing. Traditionally didn't eat meat until after sundown during lent and only one meal a day. So going for that. Also: I'm dependent on another for most food prep/meals outside of something simple. Also, if I could afford/prep all meals. I would make everything vegan. LOTS of Falafels, they are my favorite :)

In previous years I went a bit hard on the fasting and so am also recovering this year from illness and a traumatic experience again (yeh I wasn't going to mention that). Not today but this past saturday I played a fantastic show with my band of eight years, whose primary songwriter and guitarist died two years ago and it was like a memorial thing for him so our sax player filled in and somebody else played sax. Had to shell out $1300 but got my AC on the house fixed. It’s old but the AC guy is a friend who was saying that the older units like mine should be able to get like 18-20 years with proper maintenance. So I felt I made the right choice vs balling out $6k+ for a new unit

I’ve had multiple friends and family members have their brand new units breaking frequently and I said to the guy what’s with not just AC’s but older appliances in general just being so much more reliable than the newer stuff? Is this just my conspiracy brain but is the newest stuff being built to break or just has shit quality control or something?

He was already smiling like he agreed as I was asking it and said he can only speak for the AC units but the newer ones have many more sensors where if one of them gets tripped, everything shuts down

I just notice with microwaves, ovens, hot water heaters, etc, a lot of the older stuff is reliable as hell for years and years and the newer stuff seems to be kinda crap /shrug

Also a bad thing happened but for a good reason in my lil town. Christmas/streetparty postponed cuz we got 6 months worth of rain in a day. Luckily our council has spent money wisely on infrastructure so the flood waters barely wrecked anything important. Some people got minor garage flooding.
