Yeah Raj, I dunno the reason. I’m not the type to over-analyze what I say, but often it happened before almost anyone could have screwed something up

Some would message some version of hi and then ignore my response, which was usually just like a hi back, maybe asking how their week was. I only ever give one response to anyone. I’m never going to say “are you there?” or something desperate like that if they choose to ignore it

Other times the conversation would get a bit deeper but still pretty shallow like “what kind of work do you do? Or what do you like to do for fun?” either asked by myself or them. And then no answer after that. Now one could think maybe they didn’t like the job (I’m generally vague about my job to strangers anyway), but your job is also right on your profile, so it’s not like that should be a deal breaking surprise. Maybe they don’t like a hobby of mine being running, or kayaking…?

No, what I imagine it is is that they are also communicating with like 4-5 other guys, with more messaging them every day. And with thousands of un-seen profiles in front of them. So they are feeling that if the conversation isn’t absolute magic the entire way through, then bail and try with someone else. Recognizing this trend in others, I try to avoid being too judgemental myself so as to not further it

But again, there might be a money or scam angle too, who knows. My bot-sense wasn’t tingling too much though

Last night I didn't wind up in the ER and woke up this morning to quadruple post 5x. And I got some wholesome home made chicken on the bone waiting for me with some little tortias. My cats are like stepfordwives and Jibartik is mad about intergalactic selfies. I was stuck in a weird dream with monks singing that I escaped. And then I dreamed I was in a liminal space. The sun is out. My head is clear. I've got fresh water to slake my morning thirst. I got a ton of exercise yesterday and feel recharged to do it again today. My standing desk is operational. The tempature is great. It's a quiet morning. I am emotionally greatful/neutral. My family is doing ok. I can stand, walk, and stretch. I got little wipy shower pads.

My co-worker wanted to follow and confront him and be like “are you really gonna just take off after hitting that guy?” but I said not with me in the car you’re not. This is AZ, the Wild West where everyone has guns. Fuck that noise

So what we did was take down his plate and vehicle type and left a note saying “hey man we saw this truck hit you and take off” with his information on the smashed car’s windshield. Best we could do. I had Covid over the holidays and it dropped me from 180 lbs to 162 lbs. I didn't need to lose weight and not only did I, I did it in a very unhealthy way. Damned Covid is no joke, and I'm vaccinated. I'm back up to 173 now and feeling better and less fatigued but it took its toll.

I want to get to a muscly 150. Where I was 155 I was a skinny fat anorexic 155 in the past. Not good.

I bumped up my caloric intake.

It's really hard to put on the calories tho when avoiding pastries, cheese, fast food. Fried foods.

Example of what I ate this morning:

Leftover meatloaf 3.5 oz, 1 1/2 tbsp mashed taters. Chia seed pudding. 1/2 serving Oatmeal, with a little fiberone sprinkled.

Lunch was one naan. Whole milk Greek yogurt one tbsp olive oil and a chopped up date.

Yesterday's dinner was corn tortillas w left over shredded baked chicken peppers and quinoa and some yogurt. Jalapeños. Like... ~180 calories a piece, more like linner. Lunch + dinner. I would prefer to just skip dinner all together tbh.

I don't have full control over my meals/ meal times *yet!

Lotta times breakfast is like 1 cup almond or organic plain no sugar soy and like some fruit. And a full serving of fiber 1 and maybe a hard boiled egg.

Or an egg over easy on rye with Amish butter.

Or I do like sourdough, hummus, and some salad greens and jalapeños. Or some lentils, black beans, and some other veg + some spinach.

Or rice and grilled shrimp with a light salad.

Tbh it's hard to find good saturated fats and omega 3s

I did salmon a few weeks ago. And a whole grilled pompano which took me like 4 days to eat skin and all.

I've been rocking it!

I would need to eat like 5 or 6 meals a day to hit 2000 calories. My BMR has got to be right around 1400-1500

Only way to up that is eat a lot more and exercise which is hard. Long term goals!

When I was packing on weight I would eat like chicken nuggies and fries in the morning a 150 calories coffee and like a 1500 Chinese takeout in the evening and sleep a lot. Or big pizza. Stuff like ice cream or cakes as snacks.

I'm off the coffee completely.

60-80 oz water daily.

Maybe camomile or black tea occasionally.

I'm really ashamed of how big I let myself get so don't want to fess up.

My fave breakfast is like a poached egg broke over some Oatmeal. Poaching is a bit of effort tho.

Yeah who hates blueberries for example? I just do berries because I hear they are the healthiest of the fruit. But every time I get groceries it’s 1-2 packages of raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. Bananas too

I actually got rejected after first date, a first for me in life. I’ve always been the one usually to reject the gal, which I’ll do by just not responding to messages after the date. I’ve heard from family that it’s more polite to at least let them know you weren’t feeling a connection, but I didn’t want to deal with possible arguments or negative statements so I tend to just ghost

I can identify I think where things went wrong. I picked a Christian gal but didn’t realize HOW Christian (Bible study, church and church group). She knew I was Christian but that my attendance was generally bad. Early on in the date I mentioned that I had tried Bible study and just didn’t like it, so didn’t keep going. After this, her entire demeanor changed. She became a lot more wooden, and quite boring

For example, I would ask her about her family and get only a short answer with no follow up. I would ask her about work and get “I don’t like talking about work when not at work”. Stuff like that. She wasn’t cold, and still asked me questions and appeared to have some interest in my responses, but definitely seemed to have made her mind up

Because she was by far the most athletic girl I had met from online, I was still willing to give it a second chance. But when I mentioned being willing to see her again she replied that she just wasn’t feeling a connection and wished me the best. I replied “no worries, u as well!” And that was that. All it cost me was a cup of coffee and an hour of my time. I don’t feel bad, I don’t think I made any obvious mistakes and while I am Christian, I am not going to lie or exaggerate my level of faith in order to try to appease someone. The only criticism I did have of her, is that me personally, even if I wasn’t feeling the person, I would still be a bit more personable and engaging out of politeness

The alternative to ghosting is to do what she did and say “I just didn’t feel a connection, sorry”

Trust me when I say this, I am by far an outlier in how people will process and accept that statement. My response of “no worries, u as well!” is what everyone hopes for but few will get, trust me. A lot, and I mean a lot, of people will get defensive when rejected. They will either ask for what they did wrong as ammunition to argue it, or say something negative back like “well I didn’t like you either, you’re ugly” or something to salvage wounded pride

It’s a nice thing to do but it does not tend to play out nice. I’m a generally non-confrontational person so I would prefer to just avoid it

What I don’t do is flippantly ghost people. If someone tries a joke online with me that doesn’t land, that won’t be a dealbreaker for me. I’ll continue to give them a chance and meet just about everyone I start a conversation with. So I am far less judgemental than most

The biggest problem for online dating for everyone is that your pictures are everything. The vast majority of people are going to be deciding based almost entirely on pictures. It is a buffet of shallowness, I agree. It also means that people who can take a good picture (or doctor one, I’ve seen a lot of that), are at a huge advantage, regardless of how attractive they actually are

The next is that the thousands of choices makes everyone extremely selective especially women. Now this is obviously going to vary based on who you go after. I am on the shallow side so I tend to go after not the absolute prettiest, but close. There are many girls I see on there who have a few flaws, like thin lips or slightly too wide a face, but actually have a decent/healthy/slender (whatever you’re into) body. I'm in a great relationship with someone I met on Match.

But I'm also not a millennial.

Age does have something to do with. The younger you are the more these apps are just meat markets and a way for some women to feel better about themselves. Us middle-aged people are seeking something different, and it does work online. We aren't going out much anymore. We aren't meeting anyone at a bar or a club or a social gathering. The women are on these apps for the same reason we men are: We've had failed relationships and marriages and are seeking something better, and let's see what happens online.

You do need to be attractive though. Sorry but it's the truth. You are primarily judged on your pictures. They don't need to be professional but at least in my age bracket if the man is taking shirtless bathroom selfies or likes to feature his baseball cap he's not getting responses from a woman seeking a genuine relationship and not a hook-up. Women need to be, well, attractive. That's subjective to a point but only to a point.

In regards to dating apps, my mom met my stepdad on match, I’ve had multiple relatives and friends meet their husbands and wives on dating apps and have stayed in those relationships. So we can’t paint everyone on them with the same brush. Like I said, your experience is going to largely depend on the type of person you go after

Lots of people have strong relationships that started on apps so I agree you may find success (and I wish you best of luck for that!) I leveled some toons for Henry Cavill. He likes his characters to be leveled up using traditional everquest grinding methods that are tried and true since 1999, and not to use any unnatural / borderline exploitative power leveling methods.

At the same time he has a busy career so I get his characters up to the level he desires and fill him in on the scoop and provide some training sessions so he knows all the tactics I employed and what he should be aware of.

We also have a separate EMU server where we just dungeon crawl so he knows where stuff is and create our own encounters by taking direct control of the NPC's and making a sort of DnD style tale as we go.

He does all the hard work himself but when you need to hold down a goblin camp for many hours at a time to level up he needs someone to help out because its just too costly time wise for him to do it.

He usually boxes red and green when he plays, and really wishes a new pvp server would launch so he could be there in the early days when all the fun is happening.

His main is a human SK, he is max ally with all Halas factions, and really close with dwarfs halfings, and ogres.

Trolls and humans and elfs and erudites are all acceptable faction, but not optimal, with a few KOS guys in some of the cities.

That always feels awesome. I had a similar experience when I messed around on Tinder for a bit shortly after moving to Japan. The girls here seem to be into white guys. With each distance entry you have an optional photo you can add. So I used my Runkeeper app to calculate the exact distance I ran+hiked+ran today (4.6miles) and included the screenshot with my distance entry. I’ll do this legit, even though the app apparently doesn’t care if everyone else cheats

If you were alone in an African plains at night and heard it surrounding you…total dread. I suffered a 15 min lecture from dad beforehand about how poorly I planned it, how there was going to be no parking there on Mother’s Day weekend, how I would have to haul two 50lb kayaks for half a mile, none of that shit actually happened (luckily). Was crowded, but not that bad

This cutie can yak for her first time in a while much better than I anticipated. I’ve never been to this lake and had no idea where the F I was going, we ended up going miles and miles down the salt river before she started to get worried that she was getting tired and we still had to go all the way back. But had thought of that, had packed a tow rope. All I needed was the delicious picnic she packed and a half can of BANG energy crack, and I towed her back without stopping against some hella-wind, while she sat in her yak and drank wine like a riverboat tourist :) Then it turns out if you put the two kayaks parallel your arm around her, her arm on your leg, you can float like that, so that’s how it wrapped up. Buuut without anchors you will float way the hell down the lake due to currents. Oh and she burned the shit out of her legs, shoulda put a second coat on sunscreen on

I think, due to the cost of gas and engines, jet skiing seems to be somewhat dying and kayaking is making a rise in popularity. Paddleboarding is popular too, but paddleboarding is just a more awkward version of kayaking while standing up, for the half hour it takes the person to get tired and need to kneel or sit anyway, which makes it even more awkward

One thing that looks really fun for rich people is some sort of motorized craft you stand on and control with a remote. It zips around fast. We saw someone on one at the lake and the girl I was with asked “is that guy on a hover board from back to the future?”

Yea, not a great time to be here coming up, already 90ish out and only going to get worse. Most people huddle inside in the AC to stay alive for the next few months. I still go run outside tho, shit don’t faze me, although I’ll be out of state for a decent chunk of June and July here coming up

We don’t have a lot to see, Antelope Canyon is probably the most popular scenery besides the Grand Canyon but it requires a permit with a huge wait list I hear. Sedona is nice, lotta pretty hikes out there. My Humphrey in the chillier northern area of flagstaff is our biggest hike, elevation 12,637 feet, all day trek for most people although I bet I can get up to the top in less than 4 hours if I haul. We’ll see when I do it for the 3rd time this summer

Saw my mom for the first time in person in probably 8 years or more. One of the hardest parts of being an expat is being worlds away from family, but I got really lucky to get sent back stateside for training to a place near where she lives.

Ok story time. I think I mentioned this before, but when was in my early 20’s I went to Vegas with some buddies, and it was like the second time in my life when I went into a strip club. This was back when Vegas strip clubs were at their wildest. Girls were doing drugs out in the open and offering everyone sex at their room (usually scam city)

I had this gorgeous age 20ish Asian stripper who was in the middle of giving me the dance of my young life, had just kissed me on the mouth which for strippers in my state was a big no no. After doing this, she whipped out a Carmex lip balm container and asked if I wanted some. At first I thought she thought I was a bad kisser, and got defensive and said “no thanks I don’t need any chapstick”. Then she shrugged, popped the top off and it was full of coke, which she started to do off her nail. So I said “oh that’s coke? Um yea sure I could probably do a little if u want”. First time doing coke, and because of that the rest of the dance was legendary in my mind. She did proposition to meet me at my room later, to which I wanted to answer “what time would be good for you and your pimp to rob me? 1 good for you?” but I just politely declined

So anyway, present day, yesterday. I’m in Vegas with my folks and aunts/uncles. But no cousins, who are like my brothers, I’m the youngest here on this trip. Didn’t bring the girl I’m dating bc she couldn’t make it, didn’t have enough advanced notice because I didn’t have it either

Struck out last night cruising around for gals solo, didn’t really want to get too hammered which would have helped. So since I had such a fond strip club memory, I decided to chase that dream. The last time I coulda swore that memory had happened in Sapphire, so I ordered a cab and headed over

Sapphire suuuucked! $50 to get in and can’t even SIT DOWN anywhere unless you spend $200 on alcohol. The tables are prolly meant for groups to be split multiple ways, I couldn’t even drink 200 of alcohol solo. So while I was standing at the bar dejected, this gorgeous blond stripper comes over and strikes up a convo. We work our way around to how much a private dance runs here, and I coulda swore she said 300 for 50 mins. I was actually considering that, until she clarified, 300 for 15 mins. I said F that, sorry I’m too much of a peasant to hang here, and bailed

Chastised myself for not doing research first, sat outside on my phone looking up feedback on the best deals on strip clubs in Vegas. Palomino kept coming up, so I took a cab there next. Could get in for cheaper, like 30, then got to actually sit down at the bar and drink. A few uggo’s came up and tried to sell me dances, a good deal of 100 for 15 mins, full hands on full nude. I began to feel the disappointment, these chicks are ugly, just wasted more than 100 in cover and cab fees for nothing…

…then felt a pat on my shoulder and looked over. There was a gorgeous ~20 year old Asian stripper. “No fucking way” I thought, is this the dream? I instantly agree to a dance and we go to vip. Before she starts the dance she whips out 2 small pills and downs then. “Oh my goodness is she doing hard drugs like the other Asian did? This is the fuckin dream!!” I thought lol

I still don’t know what she did, didn’t want to pry and she didn’t offer me any, I believe it was E. I then had a really fun 30 minutes. Girl was clearly high and enjoying herself and I won’t go into details but about 5 different times in the 30 mins I had to say “Timeout!” and basically throw her off me lol

Spent the day walking around The National Mall in DC. Pretty amazing. Maybe it's because i've been an expat for almost 10 years now, but I teared up a few times. Or Maybe it's because I smoked a fat joint on the lawn of the Washington Monument, lol. But seriously, The Vietnam memorial is incredibly moving. And walking into the Jefferson Monument and see his big statue in front of the words from the Declaration of Independence. Wooo man. All of the exhibits really. Lincoln, FDR, MLK, It's all very well done. Fuck yeah America!

Doing a routine brake pad change on the wife's van I noticed a pinhole leak in the cylinder seal on the caliper and evidence of leaked/burnt brake oil. She had been complaining about a funny smell and pedal softer than usual. This is "good" because it means the issue is identified before becoming a serious problem and doesn't leave her stranded anywhere.

It's "bad" in that I have to tear the thing apart again when we get the new caliper sent out, but that's life and I don't mind car work as much as computer work. At least a mallet is a valid tool to use on the car and that's always good stress relief.

Got kicked out of an autistic adult client’s home today. He had already mentioned he’s “antisocial” and on the spectrum. As he was relating his situational problems my co-worker was making an empathetic like “oh” noise occasionally to demonstrate he was listening

Of course this person being autistic with almost no socializing experience didn’t understand social norms and interrupted saying “why are you making those noises? I don’t need your fake pity!” Before myself or my co-worker could explain that sometimes people will make a noise like “oh” or “uh huh” to demonstrate that they are listening to the person, especially when they are facing at a 45 degree angle due to the furniture’s position to where if they didn’t make the occasional acknowledgement noise, it could possibly come across that they were staring off into space and completely ignoring the person, he got too angry

Not only did he not understand social queues but he also went from 0-100 yelling to “shut up!” And “get out!”. Unfortunately for him, he had already dropped that he was considering suicide by cop, so the next step was to commit him to a psychiatric facility. If he is going to turn into the next mass murderer, you can’t say the mental health professionals didn’t try to stop it

Coulda been worse, heard a different co-worker got punched in the face earlier this week by a teenage client. People goin’ wild and out these days…

Returned from five days in the wilderness with some buds. We had our yearly BWCA (https://www.exploreminnesota.com/iconic-destinations/boundary-waters) trip. It was quite an adventurous year. We traveled 50 miles, of that roughly 2000 rods (https://www.britannica.com/science/rod-measurement). This was my 13th time up there and we had our first canoe dump, the two new guys dumped the canoe. They handled it like champs.

It's without a doubt my favorite place on earth.

That chair, my computer chair, I accidentally stole. I saw it outside a cigar shop one day when I was getting food and thought “hey free chair they don’t want, nice”, and threw it in my flatbed and took it home. Then a week later I noticed a new chair out front the cigar shop with the owner sitting in it. Apparently he liked to sit outside and just chill. I always assume when I see a chair by the street that it’s up for grabs

I felt too embarrassed to return it. It’s pretty ratty now, if I started playing p99 a lot again I’d need to upgrade it probably but I’m hardly ever on the computer anymore

This one was not fun. This taxed me. It doesn’t help that the last mile is on concrete not grass, and tired legs means compromised form. NGL my right leg was half-numb for the last 30% of this

It was a bitch, and it only burned 688 calories. That’s less than an average fast food meal. This is why calorie restriction is 10x more effective as a means for weight loss than calorie burning (but both together are obviously best/healthiest)

Yes normally people who are serious about lifting aren’t also trying to distance run. However, within the past few months I watched a podcast with a bodybuilder (not an IFBB pro mass monster but definitely beyond an amateur) who mentioned he regularly runs a decent distance, like 5-6 miles, at something like an 8min/mile pace. He may have been lying for clout, but it presented it to me as humanly possible. What one man can do, another can do

I don’t run after leg day, I swim laps 3x a week after each of those days instead for cardio (then lift). I am approaching my mid-life crisis at 40 (38 now), and rather than buy an expensive car, go on a sex tourism vacation to Thailand, or do lots of drugs like some men handle their mid-life crisis, my plan was to be in the best shape of my life by 40 (using zyzz physique as my target goal https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yDqk6KJVyP8, he was on multiple anabolics so it’s not really possible for me, but that’s the target. And unlike popular belief he had a known heart defect that killed him, not his drug use, although that didn’t help. His friends and brother that used just as much drugs are all still alive and well)

But since my best ever run (and thus part of the target of best shape ever) was being 170lbs who could do 7.3min/mile for 13 miles, doing that now at 215lbs is harder to the point of impossible, but I am still making improvements towards it. 10 min/mi wouldn’t be a workout for me. I mean it would, but it wouldn’t push my lungs or heart almost at all and thus I wouldn’t get a lot of the health benefits, I have to push myself

I notice that when it’s triple digits out, the percent of people that finish the advanced mountain trail hike I do every weekend drops to around 30%. Whereas when it’s winter it’s more like 80%. And the reason so many have to turn around in triple digit heat is they didn’t budget their water well. One bottle of water is not gonna cut it

Whereas me, I bring enough water for me and the leezards - gave a smaller female one some today. I could still do this hike in 110+ degree heat ez, except at that temp the rubber that holds my shoes together (such as the sole to the shoe) starts to melt/dissolve, and my phone can sometimes give an overheating warning

I fell the other day on some bullshit that i shouldn't have fallen on (but you know skateboarding) And i just fuckin stuck to the ground dude.. Its like my body didnt even attempt the ninja roll.. Headphones went flying across the park, and I just fuckin stuck to the cement dude. I just like, spontaneously combusted right there.

Hiked pepper peak in alaska today. Been up here with a camper etc for a few weeks now with various family members flying in and out

We had our honeymoon booked there, always wanted to get up there, but covid kind of cratered all of that (recently had 2nd anniversary) and we ended up going to St. Augustine instead. Alaska Air and the cruise line credits still remain.

I highly recommend it man. In the US, only Zion National park has rivaled it, although for different reasons. And of course the Grand Canyon

Not that I’ve seen everything here, but I will say after being in Jasper and Banff (other very cool North American nature) on the way up here, alaska beats them

A good friend of mine in Spain managed to get his son in a popular show there where he sings! He was endorsed by a national pop star as well!

He was very happy and invited all of us to join him there to do a great meeting and celebrate.

The show is called La Voz Kids, which is a huge show in Spain, where little kids go sing and form careers in singing.

Very proud for him! :)

And this all happened right in front of me after walking freshly baked out of the cannabis club. Like 15 minutes ago. Now I’m at a tapas restaurant drinking a beer.

Glad to hear. It'll be on you to do most stuff for awhile; my experience with folks who've had chemo is that they usually aren't up to feeling like doing a whole lot. At least that type of problem does quite often stay (relatively) away. People are known to go on 20+ years with relatively little effect from it. Something to be hopeful for.

For my part, my own wife's been sick all summer and she's being admitted to probably have surgery. This by no means counts as anything "good" happening but our luck's got to change sooner or later, right?

Yeah she has to avoid all the normal chores and, we're told, especially the litterboxes. We have those robotic ones though so it's easy to clean them.

We get to go home again today. The Cycle B went well, she passed all the methotrexate as quickly as possible, so we should be able to leave in a few hours. There's a few follow ups, but there's a break between our leaving and the beginning of the next Cycle A. Should be ~21 days or so. Hyper-CVAD is quite a regimen, but we're fortunate there's a means of addressing this otherwise lethal disease at all.

Dunno if it means I should or can go back to work, but whatever, if I lose my job so be it. Just happy she is happy and getting better.
