Red 1999 doing better than it ever has. Breaking 200, even 250 now, and still climbing.
If you've never tried Red, or tried it long ago and didn't like it, now is the time to give it a shot. We've implemented a number of systems to make the transition to a PvP server much more noob friendly and not as punishingly difficult as it was years ago. Keep in mind that you can have one client open on red and one client open on blue camping item0001 and that is perfectly legitimate.
There is no XP loss on PvP death. Your coin can be looted but your items can't (store platinum in expensive gems). The PvP level range is now +/-4, and we've put the level restriction for PvP back into Soldungb and Permafrost (previously, any level could attack any level - now its +/- 4 again). There is an enormous experience bonus that greatly promotes grouping over soloing, making it easier to find a group and less likely to get destroyed by that fungi twink in your level range.
If you're out of range of PvP, all of the regular blue server PnP rules apply. Any situation that cannot be resolved through PvP uses the blue server rules. However, any situation that DOES have a PvP option (read: anytime there are players in range of killing each other) must be resolved through PvP. In the past, level 60's could come up and steal your camp/kill any time they wanted. This can't happen anymore, as you are protected under the PnP unless you're in range with that player. This also means there's a lot more protection on Red than their used to be for a wide range of situations. We've made things easier for the new player while still leaving the old guard plenty of room to play.
When you do die (you eventually will - its a PvP server) you have the option to Loot and Scoot, meaning you can get your corpse and leave the zone after being killed in PvP. No more forced corpse camping. No more bind camping. "Griefing" is next to impossible now (with a few exceptions which take an extreme effort by the griefer and are generally reserved for only the most heinous and hated enemies. The playerbase is extremely helpful, and there are many players willing to "show you the ropes" for your class or just EQ PVP in general, as well as hand out free items or platinum (gems) to get you started. Even the fungi twinks hunting low level players tend to run around with a bag full of lowbie items, handing items out to the players they kill. It's an entirely new atmosphere on Red.
If these recruitment posts are driving you insane, go log into Red and see why everyone can't stop posting about it. We've had some "big name" Blue converts over the past 6 months, and anyone who comes over with a good attitude and the right expectations ends up having an absolute blast. It's rare to find a blue transition that DOESN'T stick around these days, and that's got us really excited for the future! We're adding more Guides to Red very soon as well, so we'll be sure that the rules get enforced the way they are supposed to and people aren't being cheated or shenanigan'd.
There's never been a better time to go Red.

One of my favorite things about red99 is the social aspect, and the fun group compositions that happen.
Gone are the days of 1x tank, 1x healer, 1x CC, 3x dps etc etc. With the group XP bonus, you grab whoever and whatever class you can get. For example, this causes fun situations where you may have a necro as your main healer.
I also like that, with the XP bonus, the level range for groups is generally very wide. If you get any XP, you are probably getting good XP because of the full group bonus.
With the inclusion of so many people in grouping, you make friends very quickly and easily. The community starts feeling more tight nit and you start recognizing people when you run around.

Still going strong on Red, got a couple friends to join. Ran into some Ahole twink who had a high lvl bard giving him selos and ganking noobs in SF. Otherwise the Exp and playing new classes in different zones is pretty good.

I've been very much enjoying red so far. Joined <Fresh>, good bunch of people. Haven't been pked yet. A rogue in Unrest tried earlier today but we chased him out of the zone. Its rough going sometimes being new. Spell money is hard to come by. But the groups have been well worth it. Good times happening on red.

But for real. Pro tips: Find a friend, create a good duo that doesn't need gear (druid/enc, necro/shm, etc) level up with friend, farm gear with friend. Get strong with friend. Branch out from there.

If you pick something gear dependent as your first character, you're going to have a bad time. Full group exp is insane though, even with 3 rangers in the group. A fungi twink rolled in and decimated me and half the group before they could make it to the zone. There went all my spell money!

I would recommend making a druid as your first character. They are money making machines on Red99 due to ports. If you choose to make another class as your main, I would recommend making it on a separate account so you can have a friend port your main. Ports are not as easy to come by as Blue99

I would say enchanter is the best class to start with. I made a monk when I first started, but after a while I just couldn't find groups as a guild less monk. Everyone wants chanters. Hardly anyone would PvP me in OOT because they wanted c2, and in exchange they'd port me when my bags were full of cash loot. They're just nice to have around. If you duo, enchanter and cleric are real strong. I'd say necro and shaman are behind chanters for farming. But I essentially used a chanter to farm gear for any other class I wanted to build up. I still use one as my farm bot, and it gave me the ability to gear a lot of different toons.

Do you reroll there or transfer? Would a cleric trying to level be painful? Are there enough lowbies to group with? I've just recently started playing P99 and never played eq pvp back in the day so excuse the questions.
toolshed
11-18-2014, 07:43 PM
There is no transfer, so you have to create a new character.
A cleric would be great! They are obviously very popular with groups, and in pvp they are fun to play because they are so hard to kill (multiple DAs, gate, root, dispell).
There are lowbies to group with in the popular zones, or you can try and find them through the global OOC. Your best bet would be to join a leveling guild like <Fresh> so they can help you with beginning items and plat for spells.
No problem, happy to help. Good luck on red99! It's a fun and new experience.
Had a great time leveling up so far. Experience is extremely fast in groups.
I didn't run into trouble with pvp until around lvl 50 on my monk. You need to get mr gear asap once you hit that level so you won't get rooted. But even if you die, there is no experience loss and you don't keep coin loot on your person. Thus, it's all good and you can keep trucking along.
I'm also leveling up a bard. I grouped up to level 14 and started kiting in EK a couple days ago. Soon I'll move to kunark but I'm also always looking to group.
Hit me up on:
Fael - lvl 50 monk.
Dolic- lvl 21 bard

You don't have to drop everything you have on blue! (though you will eventually..) it is legal to box both red and blue at the same time. Really the hardest part of red is starting out, those first few newb levels. But if you bring a couple friends you'll have a blast and level super quick. Join one of the many recruiting and leveling guilds, and you got a crew! The number one raiding guild right now is recruiting and helping new players get geared.

Why would you want that? Half your gear on blue is not going to be well suited for pvp, and it is very easy to hit 60. If a group from TMO or any other guild came over, you would be 60 in 3 weeks tops depending on how much time you wanted to put into it.

Our raid forces consist of anywhere between 30-60 people. You can kill any raid mob in the game with those numbers. Not sure why you're trolling this thread. Believe it or not we could care less about killing and monopolizing every raid target on red. This ain't blues playerbase.

Post made me cave. Haven't played EQ PvP since Sullon Zek launched on live.. thinking of rolling Bard, Pally or SK. Suggestions appreciated until I say eff it and just roll a bardling.
Now really is the time to join up pals, I've been on red (came from blue) for about 2 years now. I'm a semi-casual player. That basically means I've been part of a lot of leveling guilds along the way. The one rolling now is doing it pretty big <Fresh> has 250+ members in all level ranges. There are groups rolling in almost every dungeon in Norrath.
I think this will probably last for a few more weeks until a significant amount of their members reach planar level and they either reform their identity or start feeding the bigger guilds. So, if you are interested in red but fearing the common "soloquest to 60 lol" NOW IS THE TIME. It's pretty easy to get groups all the way up to CoM, as the guild progresses they will probably reach into the hole and seb ect.
The only downside is that as part of the mass you will probably see very little pvp aside from the characters specifically built to snipe kills along the way. Most of them are easily run off, use pumice. This makes things difficult later on, as the gravy train starts to slow and you get ganked a few times after living a life absent of action you may get a little heated and even offended by some of the lengths people will go to on this server to get that kill. Stick with it though, it only gets better from here.
TL;DR Now actually is the time to join red (opinion based on years of lower level casual play and observation). Start a character today, hit global OOC and ask about joining up with <Fresh>

I made a cleric. It's been a while since I was healer but being lower lvl it slowly was coming back.
Bonus 1= I'm very rusty but it was actually quite fun & chill to be able to type to people at times & say hi instead of being busy running around all the time.
Bonus 2 = I met several people to group up pretty easily & luckily had a good few camps to go to
Bonus 3 = I have limited playing time so between the xp bonus & the more people that WANTED to group so it made those moments logged in better than LFG for Xminutes... running into a wall. ** No harsh to BLUE but I have more difficulty finding groups there despite the larger populace**
Bonus 4 = I'm near naked and still having a pixelated good time
Bonus 5 = I did see mild pvp but no grief given so yaay for honorable actions in a potentially harsh environment
Some questions I had unanswered tho in no particular order:
Can I make the guild <Invalid Target> ?
Perhaps <Permanent LnS> ?
<PartTime> <IDGAF> <Weeee> or <Wat?> are other ideas...
A major thank you to all staff and other dedicated individuals for making this all possible for us all to enjoy & play again. I think I can speak for some others that we cannot thank you enough for all the hard work, many hours & extra headaches along the way. So.. again... Thank you!

Bonus 3 = I have limited playing time so between the xp bonus & the more people that WANTED to group so it made those moments logged in better than LFG for Xminutes... running into a wall.
wow, who would have thought if you went to a server that gave you a 300% exp bonus for grouping that people would actually want to group more!
I'm shocked.

If you go to Red and start fresh and start out in Faydwer, expect to get twink ganked non stop there. imho I would go to Nek Forest, Halas region or Qeynos etc etc anywhere other than Faydwer. Find a group or form one and stay quiet and xp. This of course is only my opinion. I made a new Chanter today, leveled it to 4 and parked it in Nek Forest so maybe I can join some blue immigrants and xp with them. Might be fun.
Short story.
I was playing a 32 Paladin the other day, I logged in and advertised LFG on global ooc and guild chat. Two druids around level 30 wanted to join. Great. Over the next 20 minutes we picked up a shaman, a enchanter and a cleric. We had unrest all to ourselves. Starting in the fireplace room we quickly cleared all of the mobs including the ph for barkeep, undead knight, and the magi and also clearing the reanimated hand. We cleared all the mobs and our biggest down time was waiting for repops, after a few rounds of upgrade loots we decided to try basement. A slow march, technically the "crawl" we all dream about to the undead dwarf at the bottom. We managed to clear all the mobs and eventually set up camp in his room laying claim to the entirety of unrest at level collecting upgrade drops along the way for members of our guild <Fresh>.
If that is not a everquest experience we all can appreciate I do not know what is nor is it a world that I want to live in.
(grief disclaimer** There was none and this is not rare, we did encounter pvp a number of times over the week leading up to this but were usually able to regroup after a bit and on other occasions chase the would-be PK away**)

I'm being handed a special report as we speak.
This just in. Red server has been confirmed to be hundreds of times more fun and superior than the blue server. Blue server refugees have been seen traveling in droves to the red server borders. Many have been reported to be enjoying the ruthless killing of fellow players. I'm now being told that the blood of Noraths dragons has been spilled so frequently on the red server that crews of gnomish clockworks have been contracted to clean the landscape.
It's amazing. Its something that this blue server reporter has never seen nor heard before. Its grizzly stuff people. Keep that dial locked in there will undoubtedly be more to report.

Re-posting my I love Red post...still applies. I haven't played much of anything lately due to RL but Red was a blast and I would still highly recommend it.
----
Let me preface this with saying that I am fairly well known on the server as a trusted and neutral party in most things, so before you rage and flame, actually read what I have to say. Then feel free to rage and flame.
I know I know...another Dead99 thread on the Blue forums. Let me apologize in advance as till a week ago I felt the same way as you. Who cares about Red?
But wait! Between being bored out of my skull on blue and the new changes to Red (no XP loss to PVP death, PNP rules enforced, +-4 Lvl PVP range, ~280% XP Bonus in a full group), I recently decided to give it a try.
I have been pleasantly surprised to say the least.
-People have been more helpful and friendly on Red than you see on Blue.
-Chat has been fine, a little shit talking but that's part of PVP, they are banning people for any racial slurs etc in chat that has driven a lot of us away from Red. So far, Red chat has been tamer than Blue. I think I've seen “you mad” once.
-Group XP bonus is INSANE...seriously...2% - 3% a kill in a full group last night. ~280% XP Bonus in a full group.
-As far as Griefing goes I have not experienced it yet. I had a monk chase me around Kurns for a bit but was able to double zone and hide to lose him. (didn’t have my spells for current level and he was yellow)
-And finally Raiding...while I haven’t had a chance to get this far on Red personally, I have seen the PvP text and spoke with raiders and with very little variance on Red, raiding basically comes down to the raiding guilds squaring off prior to the mob spawning and having a massive battle to decide who gets the kill. This sounds like a lot more fun than FTE Jav spam personally, or a rotation for that matter.
As you can see, my PVP has been pretty limited so far. Mostly this is due to the fact that anyone who can PVP with you (+-4 Lvls) is who you want to group with to get that sweet sweet bonus XP.
Which pretty much makes Red99 a Blubies PVE paradise. No waiting hours for camps, AC wanders around and dies to NPCs, Verina Tomb up for days on end in Nek...
The ONLY downside to Red at this point is the low population, but even with that there is almost always one group in each of the hot dungeons and they invite ANY class due to the new XP bonus mechanics. Now is the time to roll that Hybrid you have always wanted but didn’t due to XP penalty and the fact that no one wants you in a group due to it.
Now is the time to roll anything you want here really, you can still box your blue character while playing on red. So sit in the tunnel making fat stacks on Blue while you play Red. You will not regret it.

Many gains are being had on Red99. There are no waits for things. Just gains.
The population is rising, people are around in noob zones, lots of higher levels willing to help, and the concerns or problems many have with rolling here are being resolved DAILY.
Fun times, pals. Come on over.

Red is a great experience. I know you, you're like me, you read these posts that say "you can actually KILL that motherfucker that is camping that shitty item you want!" and think, "yea I probably won't like that".
And then it happens.
And you have a boner for days.
Dragons up for hours to days at a time before being killed. Raids actually clear to the mob before killing it. What a change of pace.
I remember on live I played almost in constant fear. What was up over that hill? What was at the bottom of this dungeon? What if I died out here all by myself?
You get that here, and it makes a game that is not challenging in 2014 actually a thrill to play.

The locking-down of content, and the hilarity that is the raid scene on blue, should be sending even more blue players to red. Some cool folks on red, and you can always find a group, or a PL session from a higher-level. Yes, there is PVP, but it's actually a rush to fight another player or group for a camp.

Does anyone know the experience modifiers for each person added to a group, or does it only apply the 280% or whatever in a full group? The xp modifier sounds kind of enticing but it would probably be just me and two friends xping together most of the time unless we ran into some people.

"EXP Loss on PvP Death has been removed.
XP Bonus has been bumped up to 1.5 from 1.25.
A basic world announcement has been added for PvP Deaths"
Quote from Red wiki page. I can tell you XP is crazy fast on Red. I bet you could get to level 50 from 1 in a week if you lucked out and got in enough groups and played like hell. And I don't mean 24/7. Even with 3 people in a group XP jumps up like crazy. It is well worth going for it. I bet Wizard is the number one Class on Red. Unlike about the least played on Blue. Lot of 6 person groups have 3 Wizards in them lol. It is a LOT different than Blue, good or bad. Go for it. :p

Yeah, I maybe wrong, but I think it is 300% bonus for a full group, which would fit into quidos' calculation. 240% for 6 people plus the full group bonus. Which is close to 280% as I know it as full group. Adds basically another player, so really like 7 people in it.
Full group is goofy fast XP even in a hell level. Heck even 2 people in a group makes a big difference.

I'll just post my experience here so people can help get an idea of what to expect on red in the early levels at least. I am having a great time on Red because I feel like I am earning everything myself which I feel makes it more fun, there aren't a bunch of people sitting in EC that just handing stuff out to new players (which I am also guilty of doing recently on blue). Don't get me wrong, I really appreciated the help when I started, and it has made my experience great knowing there are good people on Blue, but on Red with the pop about 3 times lower, you have to work for things yourself. Anyways, so far everyone I have grouped with has been great and the exp bonus is fantastic. Is it classic? No, but the fact that you will most likely, unless you go out of your way to beg, have to work for all you own gear still makes each level and gear upgrade very rewarding.
The only problems I have run into are a couple twinks (Mikehunt in CB and Imawizard in CB) trying to destroy newbie groups. But really any popular zone can be avoided and with the group bonus, high ZEM zones really aren't a big deal. So yes, there are twinks out there that try to gank new players, but you can avoid them easily enough.

Ive been red for about a week now. I have very little time to play but i got my barb shammy to lvl 8 in that time, no groups in EF. Now im lvling in BB and ive had 2 pvp encpunters while sitting at half health and barely any mana. This first time was a rush but i just booked it out of there since i had to log off anyway and didnt want to do a corpse run. Next time someone zoned into BB when i was bymyself and within a minute he came up to me and started hacking. Coned red to me i was half health and had enough mana for gate but of course it failed and i died. Looking back now i wonder if i didnt cast gate and started chaining my dd spell maybe he would of went down since he was using a 2 hander and it did take him awhile to kill me. I was so weighted i couldnt run away, I luckly didnt have any plat on me and getting my corpse back wont be a big deal. i wasnt pissed at my first 2 failing encounters. Just would like to have full health like them haha o well i signed up for this. It is nice to earn your own gear, actually doing quest to get a wep thats better than rusty and getting 2 things of patchwork armor felt awesome as an upgrade. Once i have sow i think i will start liking this more ;) looking forward to the fast xp groups.
Now when i see people in BB i am on extra guard and assume they are hunting me down which does add a thrill. If they want me out and i cant kill them i can still lvl in other places.

Fungi Tunic never should've been tradeable and Sebilis should've required level 46.
Was a bad idea to allow such an item to exist the way it did.
On a PvP server especially at those levels it's ridiculous. Very few low levels do 16DMG/6seconds. Makes them basically unkillable in PvP for first 10 levels and very tough to kill next 20 levels.

a fungi twink, assuming he has weapons comparably twinked.... would wreck a full group anywhere below level 20 or so pretty easily, assuming they were legit newbs without gifted/twink gear from guild or something as well... I mean honestly... regen, haste, absurdly OP weapons, full buffs and probably great armor class.... vs. naked newbs in tattered rags with rusty spoons. You show up and demolish. This is obviously the extreme ends of the spectrum, but still... toss in ability to go invis/see invis and newbs don't stand a chance.
Luckily random higher levels tend to help combat such griefers with buffs and heals and foil their fun, so it is almost more fun to be the newb in this situation, so long as the support is there, it's a more laughable situation as the newb... I assume.. I've never been the fungi twink... :(

Meh, groups have dropped off a lot lately though. Probably because the majority of groups are happening in CB, Unrest, MM. The likely reason is the initial influx of new players from blue have dropped off, and the first diaspora has leveled up.
This might result in the stasis red had been experiencing before forced beta.
If you come, just keep an eye out for fungi-twinks and griefers like Whispering, Mikehunt, Bakingsoda, Survival, Minibite, Imawizard. One of the new tactics, Doinking pulled this, is to get into an unsuspecting group and tell them random X player is a griefer who is after them and will get them to attack and PK them. Stay aware and you'll be fine. Since there's only the ability to loot coin off a PK and no item loot, plus no XP loss, there's not that big of a deal if you get PK'ed, other than the run back from your bind-point. Just create a hotkey with /corpse and drag to a safe area to avoid the corpse camping. You should also create a hotkey for /who so you can keep an eye out for the griefers. Add them to friends list as well so you know when they come on-line since they are alts of bored higher levels.

Bout to hit 20 on my druid. 100% of my pvp experiences have been twinks/de-leveled twinks ganking our group when we're engaged with mobs.
I can't really say I'd recommend any bluebies to come over here. It's not pvp. It's rapid-paced leveling interrupted by a couple angry nerds.
Edit: Forgot to add that even if you manage to fight off a PK, they just run to a zone line and 'plug' (Disconnect their internet so they dont die). If this sounds fun to you, please come over.

Start a character in newbie zones, instantly find groups.
Kill people if you dare.
Form alliances to protect the weak;
Rage against monsters and players in their most powerful forms;
Use the word Form to form three sentences in a row
This is not a game. This is EverQuest like you've usually experienced it before plus you cant AE in a tight space (PVP moran)

Linked it once already, there's proof you can chase a fungi twink out of a zone if you're all switched on enough. Too often a twink will turn up, and 5 people will watch 1 person die... then wonder if they should zone or stay so as not to look like a coward.
By then a second person is probably half dead as the NPCs are working over the tank.
Root whatever mob is in the camp and all just focus the asshole who's causing trouble. As annoying as it is, remember you're still well ahead of your blue counterparts on XP even if you did have to corpse run.

no, but if you put the time in and are a proactive player, you stand out more/ get more.
just last week a core player with PD robe, shroud, left eye of xygoz and shield of the immaculate left our guild, and we've only been a guild since August.
lot of people getting PD stuff. Not sure who Stumpkin was on blue, or Kalea for that matter, but he has robe/ yunnb's/ wiz epic now, she has wiz epic and is in line for a PD piece. hasn't been that long for either of them.
it's fun times. you're one of the most critical of blue, Jayn, but you should try it out when you're bored. you'll get a char to 50/ can camp vp key in no time.
bring pals and you'd level even faster.
I've been playing on Red for the last few days and I have to say, it's been refreshing.
Only lvl 6 at the moment but I've enjoyed grouping with the few people I've met so far and I like the thrill of feeling like I could get ganked at any moment, even from people I'm grouping with. I also have enjoyed lvling again as a complete newb and having to make your own armor from the scraps of things you kill and such. I definitely have been feeling more like logging into my lvl 6 pvp ranger over my characters on blue but we'll see how long that lasts. :P

TMO, go red. Leveling is ridiculously fast, even with shit gear. I did 20-30 in like 6 hours in Mistmoore a few days ago.
Unfortunately, I'm still 31 because I have a bad habit of not leveling until I get the gear that I want if there's money in the bank.

I made a Necromancer on Red because I was tired of fighting for afk camps on Blue and would rather just kill the person than wait my turn.
I was happily killing mobs by myself on my newbie Necromancer when someone from Fresh comes up and says "Hey, you know you get more experience grouped than solo".
I played his little game and grouped and killed our first mob together... 6% exp.
Fuck Red forcing me to group for better experience.

Red is finally skimming around 300 at peak. Come on, ditch blue and get it to 400+!!!!
As I said in the other RED thread...
Differences between RED and BLUE in my 6 day adventure (currently lvl 33!)
1) You lvl wayyyyy faster on red. It makes going back and exping on blue nearly unbearable.
2) Tougher to find groups on red, but when you do...exp is off the charts.
3) You will actually see newbs, or people undergeared (bronze/banded/cloth/cured silk) all the way up into the 50's even. Twinking still happens, but not like on BLUE
4) Community is very cool for the most part on both blue and red (I think it's an ode to EQ's social dynamics) yet RED takes the social dynamics to new heights with the drama of PVP and forging alliances/enemies.
5) More shit talking on red, and generally more crude about it as well.
6) Red adds to the EQ vocabulary the words "Rustled" "Salty" and "PRAS"
7) Less fights at item camps on red, and if you are fighting about it one will usually drive the other out of the zone (again, taking that EQ social dynamic to new heights)
8) You generally won't find overcamped zones on RED. A few exceptions would be maybe KC or MM but even then it's not like how it is on BLUE.
So my conclusion is that if you can deal with hateful crude trash talk and a little harder time finding groups, red is great. It gives me a new refreshing everquest experience. I am always at the edge of my seat because at any moment danger could be coming. When I used to be a strictly PVE player I used to find that sensation repulsive and completely un-fun. Now, I log on blue and I feel like I've logged into this hollow empty world. Everyone just running around collecting pixels and making new alts...and for what? So you can keep grinding more pixels and making more alts? It's an endless madhouse. I see the treadmill now and it's sucked the fun out of the blue server for me. On RED that treadmill still exists but is lessened by the exp boost in pve, lack of competition for exp camps/zones, and added PVP element to keep shit FRESSSSH.

red is only great because of low population. If you started a new blue server and limited it to 300 ppl, it would be great also.
What people don't seem to realize (but it doesn't matter, because it would never happen) is that if the populations of red and blue were reversed, red would have the same or worse problems as blue. (yeah, i know you guys seem to think pvp solves everything)

Made a shaman got killed 2x by same guy in field of bone deleted toon never looked back.
You will have times where you might just PvP for 1-2 hours and that is just if you want to. You can just go to a different zone or area of the zone.
Then you will have times where you grind in a group of 6 for 3 hours and it is the equivalent of grinding for 9 hours on blue. You will hit max level quicker. You will be BiS earlier if you want to raid. You will have stuff to do if you are bored of PvE and just want to mess around with PvP.
If you log in for a 2 hour session and end up only leveling for a half hour because PvP got in the way you shouldn't be discouraged. You still probably got as much exp as you would on blue in an hour. You will have easy going sessions where you clean up on exp that more than makes up for it.
You don't have to worry about groups not letting you join because of your gear or hybrid penalty on red. It has never once come up in any group I have ever been in. People don't care.
If you go in a zone and someone is getting PL taking all the mobs, they will probably let you join to be nice since the group exp bonus doesn't hurt their exp gain by much. You don't have to deal with twinks or PL bards stealing an entire zones worth of mobs in group dungeons.
There are many benefits to Red that aren't listed. You really just gotta try it and when I say try it, you need to play until you have at least experienced one well run exp group or PvP encounter that you win.

Almost every blue transfer we've recruited has said, "I went Red and couldn't go back."
I'd say the majority cite instances of large scale PvP breaking off as a reason.
Holocaust helped Fresh with a general last night, and an Azrael hit squad tried to steal it, but we destroyed them. It went on for almost 2 hours. I think Fresh had a lot of fun. Protecting the stuff they farmed for was exhilarating. That's what gets you jacked in this game. It's a good social fun time with that adrenal bass pumping sickness attached.
Don't be dissuaded, bros. It's a good time. You'll enjoy yourselves. Server culture has swung into a more tolerable place, and we aim to keep it there.

Good to see you as well, and looking forward to group with your rogue, if i ever make it that far :)

Always groups to be found during prime times. I don't think a cleric should have too hard of a time finding a duo partner around off hours either if you make your own group.
Yep, that's the problem i think, i'm working on the evening shift. I usually log on around 12am-1am during week days, so my "let's play EQ after work"-time is often their "it's getting late, gotta go to bed"-time, oh well =/

That's more of my "most refreshing, critically important, kill any who dare wake me deepest sleep" time. ^^ I would totally play EQ then if that we're not the case though^^

whatever you have on blue you could level on red fairly quickly (minus the gear)... that should be the measuring stick of if people really want to give it a try :)

You can't argue with red's growth. Everyone else is trying it, don't be left behind... <3

Nirgon can you give us a lesson in all red-slang?
It is an ever evolving lexicon, we all just do our best to keep up.
Btw:
Duck casting era appropriate. <- red more classic
We can sit while items cast on red. <- Casters are better on red! Also, more classic than blue on this mechanic!

Why is there a difference in that regard? Why not those mechanics on both?

Rogean said both servers worked the same way as far as base code for but maybe this is a one off some how?
I gotta tell you Cec, as a wizard, being able to sit while my rend robe casts or sit dance during mana robes is a pretty big difference in a game where another 30 str or 5% haste separates the men from the boys.
The clerics being able to sit during Donal BP or greater heal stick casts is extremely noticeable too in xp/farm groups.
Would highly consider red guys. I've had several people get 60 and come to me like "really what is everyone's problem? that was so easy". Then again, I've had other people I was power leveling freak out because some ranger was shooting arrows at them. Apparently this was "too annoying to deal with"... mind you I was giving them 49+ druid buffs in crushbone power leveling during this.. I guess you if you HAVE to be able to AFK constantly while you play (wtf) or are extremely thin skinned its the wrong choice but if you're the tougher kind of player I've seen in this raid scene, and you don't like sharing... you need to come over here. .
If you're considering making a "farm char" do it on red too... there is a massive demand right now to switch blue to red plat and the conversion rate is 3:1. I personally traded a blue SBC for a red mana robe when I came back. I'm sure I could trade a blue BCG for a red fungus too and would gladly do so. If you farmed earrings of essence on red, you'd basically be getting 15k blue every time you got one and would be selling them hand over fist. My brother has been doing this with jboot rings on red, its like selling 3 blue MQs at a time per drop.

the whole trading pp/items from one server to another sounds like another method to try and prevent the tracking of RMT

Hi, I'd like to switch to red! But I dont want to start from scratch. When or why not, can we transfer or copy our characters to red?
I would love to play over there, but I dont want to invest in it, ive invested enough into eq :(

What's wrong with starting from scratch? Would could be more classic than starting from scratch?
Do people not want classic anymore? I have a 51 wizard over there in an oracle robe and rags and a cleric at 50-51 in a bloodstained tunic, plate legs and other stuff that you wouldn't find on many blue clerics. Don't think everyone else is twinked from head to toe, they aren't ;)

I don't see your point there Bristle.
You can level fairly quick on red, it doesn't take long to get to 46 and get into the planes... and if you join a guild I'm sure they'll be able to help you with a few basic items along the way.
So what's wrong with starting from scratch? Give it a try, it's a different approach to the game than buying up a load of cheaply available gear in EC.
Funny how people will moan about the red XP rate being too quick sometimes but they want to be hand fed items before they start to make the XP/leveling process easier :p

Was considering giving Red a try when I get this installed again actually
I've been having a good time on red. My shaman just hit 32 and have only been PKed once, but have had numerous other close calls. It definitely feels more classic in the sense that not everyone is twinked, and everyone will pretty much group with everyone.
I've also noticed global ooc to be a lot less toxic than I remember.
