Ragefire earlier in the day also saw mass pvp. The time to roll on Red is now!!! Red is not always a pleasant experience but there is something very special about that !

As hard as you have to work on blue to get anything done you will be working even harder on Red. The catch is you will get things done faster despite that being true and it will be that much more rewarding.

There is no commitment to joining red. If you end up finding yourself posting over 100 times about the time you got killed expecting sympathy, you can just quit, and take up being a nuisance on the forum instead! If Red is for you, you will realize why there are so many die hards on the red server. There is nothing like it!!

Well, here's my take on it.

I leveled a Shaman to 15 on blue, and it was fun and all, but it was your standard run of the mill eq experience.

Now, on red, I have a lvl 4 Iksar Necro. There's serverwide OOC, so people are always talking amongst each other, and you can see all the action when someone gets PKd, the entire server knows about it and cracks jokes, etc.

The community feels better on red...I see people login and you hear them say 'hello, red99' and you will hear other individuals chime 'hey man, how's the wife' etc- it's a very friendly environment. Sure, you will get your ass handed to you eventually but that excitement that the chance of being PK'd by another human being makes the monotonous everquest tasks much more interesting.

I'm sure if I was already involved in a guild of some sort, and spent years building characters on blue, I would be more inclined to forget about red entirely...but clearly it is the more interesting, more fun choice for me, for several reasons.

hey guys i just wanted to leave an ACTUAL review of red, unlike the rest of you losers that cant even be specific!

So I was leveling and doing things and then the community was terrible and so unlike blue with how mean they were so I almost quit right after that but continued on. Then I was like xping or whatever and then I met fred the cleric, he was cool, but not really I hated him but didnt tell him. Anyways we were doing sisters and He and I were making jokes about minorities, and laughing. I told fred I needed to pee, and afked for 5 minutes which turned out to be 10 minutes because I started thinking about halle berry and started to fap while I peed, which is a skill all in itself. Well I guess I took to long and fred killed me and stole my 10 plat. I was so mad that players would do this kind of betraying on a pvp server, I mean did I NOT tell them I was leaving my desk? WHO Does this kind of mean thing in a game. RUDE!

So I ask fred for my plat back and he wouldnt even respond. I mean I was doing what a druid should do, I was tanking well and nuking like a druid should. WTF man dont you like quality players? Someone lives in backwards land LOL!

So there you have it, clear evidence of how horrible red is. They will be nice to you and befriend you. But once you have to poop they will kill you. I mean shouldnt they like warn you or something?! I think a little "hey you are pooping so I am gonna kill you" seems like the moral thing to do. Maybe p99 will sell poop beepers to red players so we get an alarm if someone attacks us while we are on the john.

Did you have /ready on set to true in your .ini? This is a common mistake blue migrants to red make. Make sure to set the /ready option to off to avoid PvP.

The podcast plainly laid out the disastrous raiding class systems, TMO hegemony, sitting on a path for 16 hours to FTE system of end-game blue, organized by people like Tiggles. It also highlighted the differences red has to this not only due to policies / mechanics, but philosophically as well. Now I had to suffer through a lot of autism and nasal voices to come to that conclusion, but at least this Gyno guy was god damn hilarious. It may have seemed like an abrasive podcast to you, but to someone unaffiliated with the personalities or politics of red or blue for the most part, I'm rolling on red, and I encourage the rest of you to do likewise. Variance? Buying gear from TMO? Class XYZ? No thanks. I'd rather be in rags battling my way through crushbone against sperglord twinks than have all of that to look forward to.

psst we're all aware. but losing in pvp for an encounter or at least having the option to pvp over it > FTE and class whatever schedules and rotations. if nothing else, being able to kill that AFK leeching druid in your upper guk group makes red worth playing on.

Eh red has its problems too.1-50 super easy can out level the twinks quickly. The 50+ grind and raid scene takes a differnt kind of patience than blue. Just depends what is less annoying to you. I don't fault people either way at high levels it is personal preference.

Actually yes, and here is why.. I haven't played since like 2011, and I'm coming back. The podcast plainly laid out the disastrous raiding class systems, TMO hegemony, sitting on a path for 16 hours to FTE system of end-game blue, organized by people like Tiggles. It also highlighted the differences red has to this not only due to policies / mechanics, but philosophically as well. Now I had to suffer through a lot of autism and nasal voices to come to that conclusion, but at least this Gyno guy was god damn hilarious. It may have seemed like an abrasive podcast to you, but to someone unaffiliated with the personalities or politics of red or blue for the most part, I'm rolling on red, and I encourage the rest of you to do likewise. Variance? Buying gear from TMO? Class XYZ? No thanks. I'd rather be in rags battling my way through crushbone against sperglord twinks than have all of that to look forward to.

compared to? here's how raiding works on red: one guild gets 100% of the raid loot, and that guild is holocaust. if you want raid loot, you join holocaust or you don't get it. period.

holocaust does not get contested or pvp'd for raid loot. holocaust logs on 100 people per encounter, and the opposition can barely mobilize 15. when the opposition sees holocaust, they log off.

Holocaust, the only guild filled with your best pals and a bunch of top notch, pristine looking vaginas and/or penises, is now recruiting.

We intend to PvP over valuable raid targets and take them from competition. Naturally, showers of pixels are also intended, but it is not our main goal to get pixels by any means.

We are not accepting pixel whores, although i will admit we probably have some in our guild. Still, pixel whores will be silenced by my might and controlled.

The one thing we can promise you in this larger guild setting that no other guild can is a sense of order. Also, it's a great place to sculpt your guns naked in front of a mirror.

Basic requirements include:

Lvl 51 +
Somewhat regular playtime (don't need to be a neckbeard, we aren't Nihilum)
Not a total dick in Teamspeak
Willingness to learn content (PvE and PvP) and to retain that information forever

Real response is not pretty, especially considering the questionable arbitrary rules that were always being "recently changed," which seemed to be implemented on a case by case basis with no real logical foundation, that left some of the more wealthy players fucked in his wake.

I know some of you from Blue aren't terribly interested in Red, but to give you a frame of reference for the way Holocaust operates - we're basically giving out Gnarled Staffs to recruits, brand new players that have shown little devotion to the guild (not VP keyed, not 60, not in the guild for even a month, still a recruit tag in TS, etc).

If you excel and are dedicated, it just amplifies what we give you.

I think Stumpkin is from TMO and like a 5 month old guy here - has PD robe, PD earring, tobrins, wiz epic, left eye of xygoz. Most of our older blue croots are very well geared now, probably much more so than a lot of you casual players on Blue.

We try to keep raiding to a 4 day a week thing, even three if we can. Because we control most mobs, it's not really an issue. The potential for pickup raids and epic fights is big on those off days. You don't have to wait in line forever to get things you want, and the exp bonus ensures an even easier rate at which you'll get to where you want.

It has been changed to a per group member bonus, which has made the community more friendly and willing to trust each other for greed of liquid gold. The favorite pvp classes are Rogues, Monks, Bards, Shamans(flavor of the month) and enchanters. Everything else is in high need. We take all classes and levels in <Fresh> and strongly encourage people to have fun. The only time I would see someone having an issue with someone streaming on red is during a raid. i have been playing on red for just over a month and its been a blast. lots of friendly people around to group with and the pvp has been hilarious , both when getting some kills or getting dunked by a fungi twink. i dont let my jimmies get rustled, i just move along.


after browsing blue forums it is still a pvp server, just pvp by way of rule lawyering and petitions, it is pretty pathetic actually.

anyone on blue looking to at their next alt should consider red... anyone new to p99 should be seriously considering red before they hop onto lawyerquest99.

I figured I would post my experience here.

After reading the forums and watching a few of the videos, I decided to give red a try and made a dark elf Shadowknight. Neriak and Nektulos were essentially vacant.

The /ooc chatter was surprisingly tame probably due to the time of day. I was expecting a toxic mess that I was going to have to /ignore and was pleasantly surprised.

Off to killing moss snakes, skeletons, bugs and wolves. Eventually I had enough to buy a couple of backpacks and looted a rusty two handed sword.

After some time I saw another fellow, a level 1 Enchanter, near Neriak. I kept an eye on him and hunted the other side of the hill for a while giving him time to get to level two before I went over and tried to cut off his head.

Rounding the top of the hill a short bit later there is another caster just sitting there (blue con). I head over and whack him with my sword and he takes off running, finally stopping by the guards. He has gear and presumably knows what he is doing so I stop attacking. Neither of us is particularly sure who dies if any in this situation and I have some things to tend to so I camp out.

A short while later I return and run around the hill again this time to find BOTH of them standing there. They back up a step. I send a tell to the first fellow I hit and we decide to group up for a while. Quickly they ding and go down to buy spells only to find they don't have enough so I give them each 5gp from my rusty weapon sales (clearly, still a bluebie).

Eventually I have to go and return a short time later to find the Enchanter (now yellow to me) sitting there at the entrance. I try to cut his head off and quickly find out the hard way that the Neriak guards in fact do not approve of such things.

Had a good time. Will be back.

there is ways to be OP, and there is ways to evade people who are using that advantage.

For Example people complain about twink rogues with epics ganking them. I have been attacked by many yet only one has managed to kill me ( I am a level 40 druid and still wear mostly rawhide armor). As long as you arent lazy and use your most useful pvp spells you will survive fine. Since I have track I bind it to my movement keys so I am constantly pinging it to see who is around. If I see someone I know is hostile or someone I am unsure of I track them, when I am grouped I press my hostile pvp hotkey, type out the toons name so either someone in the group can tell me if hes friendly, or we can all be on our toes to respond quickly to any pvp engagement. Things like this will save you and your groups life.


as for what class is op, Druid, Mage Necro comes to mind( or bard if you can do it right). any class that can deal with you from a distance is gonna kill an SK unless he has a partner with him usually.

In pvp there is alot of things that you dont know if you have only played PVE, so you will be learning as you go. I advise you meet some folks that are good at playing here, they will hopefully fill you in on these things. Alot of shit seems unfair at first but once you have practice dealing with it, it just becomes another simple obstacle.

I have one 60 and another over 55. I have been battling with the choice of starting on red. But I can't get past starting with literally nothing again. On blue, Paladins are the least played class so a lot of their gear is cheaper relative to the rest. How is it on red?

On blue, Paladins are the least played class so a lot of their gear is cheaper relative to the rest. How is it on red?

They're annoying to fight in a pvp situation for obvious reasons. Not the best to start on without any gear but you'll encounter people with a few items to pass on. Worth chatting with <Fresh> once you get a few levels, they're always keen to welcome new players to the server.

Again, make level 10 and I can probably pass you a green jade broadsword (http://wiki.project1999.com/Green_Jade_Broadsword). Nothing too fancy in blue terms but it would take the edge off if you're soloing or grouped with limited dps.

I say level 10 because I've passed out some items before and people sometimes vanish into the ether :D

Something else to consider with race... dwarf paladins definitely the best starting stats.

"Jousting" with 2h weapons is a thing in on EQ pvp servers - running at someone, hitting attack at the right moment etc, getting a decent 2h shouldn't be too hard.

Druid is a good first class for red. The PvP is good, you can travel around, you can heal, you can nuke, you can solo. It's a good all round class. I'd focus on getting some wis gear (as well as resist gear) as your mana pool is going to hurt your chances a little in a solo pvp situation.

Red always needs more healers. Definitely group up as much as possible though versus kiting solo if you want quicker levels.

Yea, I had some guy sit by me in gfay and wait til I left the safety of the guards. I assumed the guards would attack him but he wouldn't let me leave for about 10 mins.

I was like, "really?" But ah well. He eventually left when I just alt+tabbed and did something else for 10 mins. :p

Yea, I read about the LnS rule. Didn't need to apply it since I just sat at guards. I imagine people do CB/Unrest/MM though because of the massive exp bonus to the zone and then grouping.

I'm cool with 290% somewhere else but it takes some lucky, seemingly, to find a group of people to play with. Definitely would recommend people who want to come to Red to have friends or somehow find people to play with quickly.

I wish red had at another 100-200 people on average. I know I'm sure people disagree but at least for someone like me who was trying to get into it, I found it very unappealing to attempt to brave getting PK'd, without anyone to play with on a server, that is seemingly dominated by one guild anyway.

I've yet to find people to level with which sorta sucks.

Call LNS and move to another nearby zone. check back where you were after 10 minutes and see if they are still around. Yes at level 5 you may have to call LNS. There are some bullies around but griefing anyone let alone rags players is frowned upon and not tolerated by the rules if you call LNS.

I started on this server 2 months ago and have never been corpse camped or excessively griefed (yes some. of my chars have taken deaths from lvl 15 ragebringer/fungi alts) . Ive lost over 400pp in a pvp death, and had some good convos with players after they have killed me. the key to having fun is keeping your rustleness to a minimum

As i mentioned in previous post hit me up for some buffs, and if you are getting bullied badly and im around, ill make sure you are unkillable.

It's interesting that on blue you pretty rarely use the terrain to any kind of advantage - in fact in most cases, NPC's and terrain don't interract well at all causing warping or getting hit from under the world.

On red climbing trees is a legit strategy (not always!)

The story so far:

During glorious battle with a fire beetle, I am attacked by some ne'er-do-well, no doubt turning to banditry in order to feed his skanky wife and fetal alcohol babies. I don't fight back, hoping that he'll just leave me alone since I see several moss snakes on the horizon just begging to be slain.

Unfortunately, my indifference to his aggression did not phase this thug in the slightest and he promptly took me down and left me for dead, making off with my life savings of around 4 gold and 12 silver as he sprinted away to, I assume, avoid any justice that the Dark Elf dragoons could offer after I reported his misconduct.

I am now level 3, I plan to get to level 60 without killing a single player. I will keep the community updated on my progress through the red server.

Update:
Level 6 now, managed to steal almost a full suit of cloth from decaying skeletons and sharpened up a rusty halberd so I can sometimes kill an even level puma without dying, two if I harm touch one.

I ran into the brigand who killed me in cold blood again, he was actually a pretty nice guy besides the fact that he gets overtaken by bloodlust now and then. But hey, we all have our problems right?

Things are looking good, no one has bothered me since the first incident and I am making some serious progress. Grundwald out.

Is this like anything goes? say you're in a group and the group thinks someone is looting too much and you can just kill them? thats kinda funny if so. I could be way off base but it had this hunger games like feeling to it. i was in a group in cb killing the entrance mobs with my groupmates but felt like we could just start hacking at each other any minute.

If you've never tried Red, or tried it long ago and didn't like it, now is the time to give it a shot. We've implemented a number of systems to make the transition to a PvP server much more noob friendly and not as punishingly difficult as it was years ago. Keep in mind that you can have one client open on red and one client open on blue camping item0001 and that is perfectly legitimate.

There is no XP loss on PvP death. Your coin can be looted but your items can't (store platinum in expensive gems). The PvP level range is now +/-4, and we've put the level restriction for PvP back into Soldungb and Permafrost (previously, any level could attack any level - now its +/- 4 again). There is an enormous experience bonus that greatly promotes grouping over soloing, making it easier to find a group and less likely to get destroyed by that fungi twink in your level range.

If you're out of range of PvP, all of the regular blue server PnP rules apply. Any situation that cannot be resolved through PvP uses the blue server rules. However, any situation that DOES have a PvP option (read: anytime there are players in range of killing each other) must be resolved through PvP. In the past, level 60's could come up and steal your camp/kill any time they wanted. This can't happen anymore, as you are protected under the PnP unless you're in range with that player. This also means there's a lot more protection on Red than their used to be for a wide range of situations. We've made things easier for the new player while still leaving the old guard plenty of room to play.

When you do die (you eventually will - its a PvP server) you have the option to Loot and Scoot, meaning you can get your corpse and leave the zone after being killed in PvP. No more forced corpse camping. No more bind camping. "Griefing" is next to impossible now (with a few exceptions which take an extreme effort by the griefer and are generally reserved for only the most heinous and hated enemies. The playerbase is extremely helpful, and there are many players willing to "show you the ropes" for your class or just EQ PVP in general, as well as hand out free items or platinum (gems) to get you started. Even the fungi twinks hunting low level players tend to run around with a bag full of lowbie items, handing items out to the players they kill. It's an entirely new atmosphere on Red.

If these recruitment posts are driving you insane, go log into Red and see why everyone can't stop posting about it. We've had some "big name" Blue converts over the past 6 months, and anyone who comes over with a good attitude and the right expectations ends up having an absolute blast. It's rare to find a blue transition that DOESN'T stick around these days, and that's got us really excited for the future! We're adding more Guides to Red very soon as well, so we'll be sure that the rules get enforced the way they are supposed to and people aren't being cheated or shenanigan'd.

There's never been a better time to go Red.

yes. groupmates will attack you and that's legit. As for LNS - when you die from PvP, you can /ooc "LNS" to invoke the "play-nice policy" which allows you to safely loot your corpse, but then you have to leave the zone for 1 hour

I honestly think that people really WANT to play on Red, but currently if you don't get in there with a static group of friends, leveling is very difficult. I've tried and failed about 5x to login and find a group, and it's been a futile effort. PvP isn't even the issue, it's the fact that there really aren't that many users to level up with.

Why be on Red with all this awesome bonus exp and you can't even use it? I understand why Red is like this because they want to increase grouping and community effort while leveling but I'd definitely be a happier guy if they increased the static exp bonus a bit.

There is an XP bonus still (vs blue) for soloing content, but you're right its nothing like the bonus you get for grabbing a pal or 5 and doing things grouped.

if you're a cry baby and can't like idk move zones after being pked there is nothing anyone can do for ya. The leaders of the dominant guilds are looking down on this and more and more often members of the community step in to OOR heal against the people doing it. If you want to play on red you will, and if you don't you wont.
