![]() Hi, I'm new to this game. I made a Halfling cleric and have been reading guides on stats, leveling and equipment. I am wondering if there is someone out there who is familiar with the game, has a mic-program (ventrilo, teamspeak, etc) and would be to be my 'mentor' for the game. I need information like appropriate locations to exp for my level, tips on quests not to be missed, quest to be ignored/skipped, etc. My game name is 'Medixx'. Please shoot me a whisper here and there if you can help. Thank you!

EQ is really not based on quests like other MMORPGs, so there are not necessarily those you must do... they are all pretty optional. Starting out fresh I would say kill lots of stuff, group often, and save plat... you will find that plat (money) buys pretty much everything you want in this game. That being said, Cleric's are a super fun class, but not typically very good at making money so be prepared to be broke. [You must be logged in to view images. ![]() Be aware that clerics are dependant on others to group with for xp. Basically forget about soloing. (Yes I know it is possible on specific mobs... slowly but not really worth it). getting groups is pretty easy though, if they are there to get.
Also clerics have nothing to help them get around safely. No sow (run faster), no invisibility. I would not recommend one for your first character.

Melee classes are what I would suggest. Warrior, Paladin, Shadow Knight, and even Ranger would be the best way to start learning the game imo. They allow the most room for error and targeting something and pressing q (auto attack) is the easiest way. Magician wouldn't be so bad either once you get to level 4 and have a pet to help you out. Thinking back to my own experiences when I started.

![]() Recommending Paladin/SK/Ranger over a Cleric to a new player is amusing to me.

![]() Play whatever you like. Casters tend to be less gear dependent and clerics are fine for a first character if you like grouping and being the main healer. They can also solo quite well vs undead (You can sit in unrest for quite a long time if you want to solo your mid levels)
Melee is probably technically "easier" however you wont be able to solo very well without gear and will spend a lot of time sitting / using bind wound to keep your health up. Hybrids aren't as bad on the gear requirement because they have spells however they do have a pretty sizable exp penalty which may cause you too burn out / lose interest if you are not ready for it Edit: I also just started an alt (SK) as on older player coming back So if you have any questions / want to duo let me know

If you don't like it, don't follow it. I suggest straight melee as first characters for logical reasons. Level 1 Warrior, more hp and ac than a Cleric. Also has better DPS than Cleric even if its just kick. Take that Warrior, run around a newbie area, learn how to target, attack, kill, and loot mobs. Same cleric, being new would be without any spells except the basic hp buff and heal. Ever try to level a brand new cleric in gfay and get owned by a level 2 orc pawn? A brand new warrior will hold up better and doesn't take the same down time rememorizing spells. If he dies he respawns and is back to full hp. This is about learning how to play the game, not the long term of what class he would really want to play. That is a different subject

![]() You have to start a MONEY class to do well in this game. And it sure as hell is not a Melee class. Melee classes are very gear dependent. You can level a Mage or a Nerco naked to level 50 and do well. Try that with your Warrior.
You have to have some plat and gear in this game or you give up and quit after a short period. That is why Druid, Necro, Monk, Shaman are the most played classes in here. And Pally, Ranger, SK are at the bottom. Play what you want, but unless you can make some money this game sucks.
