New laptop, Intermittant freezing?

Im not too hot on computers, But every so often EQ freezes for a few seconds, then carries on the game as normal, this is getting very annoying when trying to pull!

I have an Intel core i3-380m processor, acer laptop.

ive heard you can change the compatability on which a programme is run, Which is reccomended, Win95/98/or 2000? im thinking of trying this to eliminate all possibilitys of the cause to why it keeps freezing at times.
