Default Cpu issues

Hi there,

After my pc died which was running only a single core CPU, I had to dig out my laptop and reformat it. I copied across the EQ I was running from my old pc from the external HD I use and all of the files etc copied across nicely.

After a few hours of use I noticed a couple of new problems. My client seems to make my character speed up and then suddenly slow down, this is random periods of time and sometimes I move slowly for up to 5 minutes solid. I noticed the issue seems to be worse when near a hill, tree, house etc and works fairly nicely on flat land but still issues even on flat land.

Here is a list of things I have tried to remedy this problem:
- Set affinity CPU 0 & then also CPU 1 ~ This works semi Ok... atleast it prevents it from happening as frequent.
- Set High Priority on task manager ~ seems to have no effect.
- Set power options to High Performance ~ Again seems to do diddly squat.
- Run as administrator ~ doesn't seem to affect.
- Run Duxa's installer to fix CPU issues ~ It feels like this actually made it worse... not 100% sure why.
- Disable Aero as suggested in Duxa's thread ~ This also had no effect.
- Run WinEQ 2.0 ~ Meh, It seems to have made my resolution look a bit better but not helping the sluggish speeds.

I did restart several times inbetween changing all these things and still I'm moving like a slug on a salt trail.

If anyone has any further suggestions I would like to hear what worked for you and if possible a little bit of help to do so.

Thanks in advance,
Urb.

Laptops adjust CPU speed based on load, so none of the fixes you tried didnt work since they are made for multi core CPUs on Desktops. By limiting your laptop's CPU to 50% you prevented it from ramping up once it detects that a 3d applicaiton is running (EverQuest).

Glad you found a solution [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Well thanks for all the hard work you put into releasing these fixes / installers and even your UI's. They are really appreciated I'm sure the fix works a treat on a desktop [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Edit: Meh CPU issue is back, even when I put CPU right down to minimum it still laggs like crazy [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Try the following...

Run a youtube video in a browser... after about 30 seconds start up EQ... keep the video running (you can mute it)... see if that fixes it. if it does then just keep the video on loop in the background (or playlist)...

The goal here is to not have your CPU speed adjust on loads.
