Default Non-Classic Classicness

In classic there was hidden stuff (like AC in Sro, Pyzjn in Q Hills etc) and they were a source of speculation, wild, sometimes retarded theories.

While its a bit late for this server, do you think in restrospect they ought to have been re-done after the dev spilled the beans on them. Should stuff that was never released to the public in Velious (if anything) but was later released to the public be redone?

I was just helping someone spawn pyzjn, n it was way easier, pretty unexciting compared to old days and I imagine AC will be pretty boring too now I think.

Its not really classic when you know stuff that makes it not play like classic, thoughts?

That'd be like crumbling up the research it took years to create.
No thanks!

Yeah but it didn't take research to figure it out. An EQ developer posted the data on the Sony forums. I did a not very intensive search and couldn't find anything by players that came close to the way it really worked.

The South Ro AC was amazing for crazy theories
  • Keep the dervs cleared.
  • Kill all the trash - the mummy in the ruins is KEY!
  • Only clear trash at night
  • If you see a sand mummy, it means the AC is due to spawn.

...among others!

I actually still don't know the specifics, kind of like it that way though I know its to do with killing a certain mob at a certain time.

The named NPC spawn mechanisms that you referenced WERE largely redone on P99. The AC in S. Ro in particular was completely redone. Yet, that new mechanism has already been figured out and posted on P99.

From what I can see in SRo they duplicate the developer comments on the SRo spawn.

On a whole its not a big issue, but from someone who was a compulsive AC camper / theorist [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] its certainly not classic to be in Sro and hear CC AC???. OOT was campable, Sro was FFA which is what made it fun to camp imo.

Edit:

I was just putting some data together for pyzjn n I realized that pyzjn and ac have very similiar event descriptions. pyzjn seems to have 5 or so different spawn locations which is how it seemed to work on live.

On live I believe (but cannot prove with hard data) that the AC had multiple spawn locations as well.

Obviously, this game would be funner if I hadn't already played it off/on over the past 13 years.

But if I was younger I probably wouldn't be attracted to its graphics or its roughness. Modern MMORPGs are very crisp and orderly things. WoW/SWTOR are super shiny and well built things by comparison.

I can play an old game and have fun. But I'm 34. Younger peeps might get bored.

I just got done playing Wizardry 7, for example. Not impressed with it. I hate save/load gameplay. But that shows you how far back I'll go. It was released in 1992! I look at games as art. Not just entertainment.

Games are stories. They're animate paintings. They're unique moments. They're more than just what we do for fun. They can be philosiphical or spiritual, even. It depends on your perspective. If you go into it thinking it's just a game then you're not investing your soul into it. Without the soul, things lose luster. I go into a game with the notion that it's made by artists. My soul is called at times to give me counsel.

Games are only as good as the soul we put into them. Just like any art.

Bilge is different than it was on live. On live it could spawn from any mob not just a select few.

This confuses me because in the first sentence above you seem to be saying that the SRo AC on P99 is the same as it was on Live. However, in the second sentence, you bemoan that the AC in SRo appears to be single spawn spot and campable, and therefore not like Live.

Whatever the case, it is indeed a campable single spawn spot on P99 and the methodology for making him pop is different than it was on Live.

Hi, yeah from what I have seen in Sro the process for spawning the AC is the same as the code fragment I posted above, which is what was used on live as posted by a devleloper. However rather then a multiple spawn point non-campable mob like I believe it was on live, its instead a single spawn point campable mob, which is not classic.
