Default Are Damage Shields On Pets Neutral Damage?

Title says it. Started a Mage. A friendly Druid gave me a DS and when two mobs engaged me one died wholly from the DS and I got no exp for that one

This got me to wondering about the change to pets where you have to do the 51% more damage thing over pet to get full experience. With the fire pet DS, if it's neutral damage do you just have to do more damage than it's nukes and melee hits only to get the full experience?

Been wondering the same thing ever since my alt started playing with a friend's mage.

Also, to add another question: if two mages group together, do the mages combined only have to deal more damage than the one pet who deals more damage on any given mob... or do they have to outdamage the combined amount the pets deal... in order for the mages to get full xp? If the former, then two mages grouping together would probably end up in nearly the situation solo mages were before the pet xp change right? Each mage could toss one relatively low nuke out when the mob is at like 30% just to ensure (more or less) that neither pet is able to deal more than 50% by itself.

As I understand it, if the (damage of the mages) + (the damage of the pet that did less) > (damage of the pet that did more) then the mages get full exp. So 2 or more mages grouping together will not notice the change much. With more than 3 equal pets, you should always get full exp.

Damage shields count as no ones damage, you can have a person being hit with a DS on and if all you do is hit the mob for 1 damage, you will get the xp for it.

As I understand it:
DS's on anyone are neutral damage, including your pet. The reason you didn't get XP for the 2nd mob is because you failed to do 1 dmg to it. So if you had hit each mob for 1, you'd get both xp's. Now whether you out damage your pet is another question. You'd have to do more damage than him on both to receive full XP.

Edit: ya what Drav said, I typed that out like 2 hours ago then forgot to hit reply lol.
