Default Tash affect on Charm

A high level chanter recently told me that tashing a target before charming it can potentially raise the amount of time that the charm holds.

Now I know that tashing first will reduce the risk of a resist, but will it in actual fact increase the amount of time the target stays charmed? I thought the charm timer was random, and affected only by CHA.

The way I understanding it is that there are 3 checks while a mob is charmed. Not exactly sure how often the checks run, but i think it's every tick (6 seconds).

Most important: your level vs mob level
Next important: mobs magic resist
Last: your CHA

However, it feels like after the charm nerf around Kunark's start, CHA has been playing a significantly lower role in charm durations. This, on top of the fact that a mob's magic resist was always more important kind of shows why tashing is a big deal.

Hopefully another chanter with a little more info can come in and explain it a little better or accurately. But from what I understand, CHA isn't the priority charming stat to have on your gear(especially in high levels with those sexy CHA buffs). Might be better to invest in some HP gear.

the simple version is this:

once charmed, a mob can potentially break a charm once every 6 seconds. in order to do so, against enchanters, he must make 3 saves:

a save based on the difference between the level of the enchanter and the mob

a save based on the MR of the mob

a save based on the charisma of the enchanter

if he makes all three of these saves, charm will break and the mob is free.

as you can see, charm duration is anything but "random," it is based mainly on a variety of statistics that can be manipulated to the enchanter's advantage. the simplest, and one that takes the least preparation, is to lower the MR of the mob you are charming.

And beyond the statistics, there's common sense. When charm breaks, you need to either Mez or Recharm the mob that is running at you. You always want to have Tash on board so either will land.

When I used to charm solo if Tash wore off, I would get a safe distance and break charm by hiding so I could re-tash and re-charm.

There's a pretty noticeable difference at 60 in average duration of my charms when using tash.

Of course, I've not used it and had many instances of charm lasting 20 minutes anyway. I've also used it and had many instances of it breaking early. Overall though, you'll see the difference.

back in live I used to carry a charm kit. Numerous items with negative MR. When I charmed a pet that I wanted to keep I would give these items to it. At the end of the session I would kill pet and loot items.

Sadly this isn't such a good idea here, as when you kill you former charmed pet, it does not return the items [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Another known tip is, when possible, give your charm a two hander. It's easier to recharm when it's hitting slow [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

this is what little nancy boy enchanters do.

give them 2 sword of runes and a muzzle if you can, it makes them do more dps. cleric of innoruuk quadding for a total of 800 dmg a round = win.
