Default So you want to zone faster...

I thought I would post again about how awesome it can be to run games directly from RAM.
Through testing, I've determined that Ram loading Everquest drops between 3 and 10 seconds of load time(depending on where your zoning into).
The reduction only applies to those of us without SSDs; people with SSDs will probably see no reduction.

If your interested in ram loading EQ(I only suggest you attempt this if you have 4GB or more of RAM), you'll need to get a program like Ramdisk to run the virtual drive.
Before you make the virtual drive, you'll want to delete all non-relevant files(aka non classic/kunark/velious expansion files).
If you delete everything, including all sound files, the resulting EQ folder should be ~1800MB(mine is 1762MB).
With the EQ folder reduced, its time to make the RAM Drive.
Make the new drive ~5% larger than your EQ folder, and format it to FAT32.
Copy your slim EQ folder into the new drive, and play.

*If you change your client in any way, you'll need to remember to copy the EQ folder back off the RAM Drive before you shut down or un-mount the RAM Drive.

Its also worth noting that the last time I played EQ off RAM, I was unable to zone much faster than 16 seconds.
My guess is that the client transfer between zone servers is the main limiting factor at that point.
Its been over a year since I have played, so maybe I'll get some better zone times tonight.

Anyhow, let the posts about how silly this is begin...
