Default Backpacks Dropping Off Newbie Trash

While gearing up with the finest in newbie apparel on this server I've noticed a lot of backpacks dropping off the humanoid monsters in a few of the newbie zones (Greater Faydark, Steamfont Mountains, Butcherblock Mountains, East Free Port). While this definitely improves the game for someone just trying to make their way in a harsh world, the only thing these monsters dropped so consistently in classic were newbies. The backpacks weren't implemented into the drop list for four or five years post launch, at least at the high rate they drop on this server.

This definitely isn't game breaking and actually makes newbie life a little less difficult on the server, I just wanted to point it out as one of those "This wasn't in classic" points.

Also, I wasn't sure if loot table issues went under game mechanics or NPC spawn issues :/

I'm not sure that's right. I seem to remember getting backpacks off low level mobs right from the start. I certainly remember looting small and large bags, as well as the belts that I've been seeing drop.

Yeah, the belt pouches (the small four slot ones) were really common and dropped almost at the rate of these backpacks. Possibly a little less since I feel like the gnome who won the backpack lottery lately. I've found at least one in every zone listed in only a few kills.

One of the things I hated about classic was having to do the back to town shuffle every few kills until I made enough money to buy some decent sized bags. Neriak was the worst for this with the trek back to the foreign quarter from the newbie log.

I remember being sooo happy when I found a backpack on mobs in newbie areas. It was a huge relief, so it definitely happened during classic!

edit: sorry typed didn't on accident lol.

I was playing more around the time of Kunark but I definitely remember getting the belt pouches(pretty uncommon) off mobs and getting a full size backpacks(RARELY).

IIRC the low level kobolds in steamfont drop the back packs quite commonly, far more than any other zone i have fought in.
Seemed quite high - not that i was complaining when starting out [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
