Default charisma an issue with fear spells?

Does charicma have any bearing on if a fear spell lands or its duration? Back in the day people always commented on how lower cha made your fear spells hit more/last longer I am curious how it works here?

Wives tale based on the stats on the necro quest gear. No truth behind it, unless the source devs coded it to.

I've always played a HIE Cleric, both on live and here on p1999... My naturally high charisma has not prevented me from fearing the everloving snot out of giants and specs.

Definitely a wives tale.

So then fear is based solely off of MR?

Playing as a bard - almost always at about 170+ charisma, my Fear has never once failed on any mob that I've used it on.

So, from the song standpoint, it almost certainly has no bearing.. unless, of course, like many of the other detrimental songs, you need HIGHER Charisma for it to land.

However, Necromancers have similar experience with lower starting CHA (race/class) and loaded up with -CHA gear, so I'd wager based on that, it has no bearing whatsoever.

It is definately an old wives tale...cha has no affect on fear at all. I heard it directly from the devs mouth at one of the fan faire magic panel discussions. Also, for a while on live i had so many negative cha items (hand of the reaper, harvester etc) that my cha was actually below zero..like negative 7 or something, and there was no noticeable difference from that gear to any other set of gear I ever wore.

I remember that rumor. I think it came about because necro gear had a tendency to have -charisma, and people began to believe that it was there to increase the duration of necro fears. I don't think the rumor ever included charisma and fear's chance to land but only the duration of fear itself.

I totally bought into the negative charisma trend back in the day.

You better believe I was rocking the Grave Sandals, Engraved Bone Pauldrons and of course Forsaken Pariah Mask, Tattered Tomb Shroud along with my Staff of the Dreaded Gaze. That being said it was all just rumors (unfortunately).
