Another thread and additional in-game lore which added to speculation. As one poster commented, SOE coulda shoulda expanded onto the western portion of the map, since Kunark and Velious had to be accessed from the east if going by way of boat, leaving the very first zones like Qeynos increasingly empty.

Verant has said they intend to enhance and add-to the Odus side of Norrath in an attempt to spread the server populations across the realms. They have said they will offer more free zones, primarily on that side of the gameworld.
Creating a new race in Odus would do just that. The Kerrans are prime for development, and far more appealing, aesthetically, than lizardfolk!
There is in-game reference to a Kerran Bard (in some book, i think the one on Research), so Bard for sure; and the Earthy classes, Druid, Ranger, maybe Mage for caster-type; of course, Rogues; and the obligatory Warrior.
Racial abilities would naturally be SafeFall, Sneak, and Ultravision.
They already come with their own city, npcs, and quests, and after VI improves that side of Norrath, perhaps their own newbie-ground!
Bump if you approve! You never know what VI will do next!

BUMP for sure.
Hell they have Kerran quests. The zone would be easy to make a player race town.. Same with Aviaks and Frogloks.
But Kerrans first!

Kerrans would make a great playable race and wouldn't be as hard to make as for example, the Iksar were.
They already have the male and female models done. All they need to do is make a city and new armor models. The former poses problems however as they could not possibly start on Kerra Isle. If they did Erudites would have no place to hunt and the Kerrans would have a hard time getting to the docks in erudin or even hunting safely in Toxxulia. They could always make a string of Islands adjacent to Erud's Crossing or greatly expand Erud's Crossing to make a city with all the essentials (guild halls, bank, newbie zone).
As for special abilities they would have ultra or infra vision, maybe safe fall and sneak and one or two others.
I would love to see them implemented and would definetly make one.

I like the idea of Kerrans as a player race. Being cat like, They would no doubt have the highest agility and dex. Combine that with their natural weaponry (claws) they would excel as monks.

Definitely need another race for monks other than Iksar and Human. Would defnintely need to expand the zones over near Odus though. Or if not, Kerrans as a race would have to have some nice stats, skills and initial quests to offset a very dificult starting area.

Let't see... Here's a list of prospective character races:
1) Kerrans (for the reasons stated by others)
2) Minotaurs (They are just so darn COOL... think of "Tahngarth" from Magic:The Gathering, or "Kaz" from Dragonlance
3) Gnolls (I just kinda like em'!)
4) Orcs
5) Brownies (cool)
6) Kobolds
7) Goblins
8) Frogloks
9) Centaurs
10) Aviaks (Already have a city in place!)
Hope I didn't leave any out, I would just like to see more variety as opposed to the "standard" fantasy races. Almost every race is so "Human" like (Trolls, Iskar being the exceptions)

After reading this post I wandered over to Kerra Isle and chit chatted with the furry folk. Turns out they have some quests (not too tough for mid 20 lvl chars). Could add a few lower lvl quests, and make that warf rat a lil weaker (tough rat.. has about 200hp), and there ya go... cool race of kitties for players to choose from.
Classes could be Shaman (female only), warrior, shadow knight(?), rouge, and monk. All calsses would start with safefall, be resistant to cold (fur coat), bad faction everywhere (KOS like iksar), and wear max of chain (or class specific armor like crafted, planar and totemic) except monks of course. Oh, and fishing would start at 100 (kinda how iksar start with swimming), cuz their cats, right? Oh, and let them be able to eat the currently non-edible meat drops. i.e. wolf meat, bear meat and lion meat.. umm.. or would that be considered canabalism.

Just a question... Why limit the shaman to female Kerrans? Trolls, ogres, barbarians, and iskar shamans can be either sex. In fact, it would be the only race/class combination in the game restricted to a single sex. I don't get it. Not that it really matters of course since this is purely hypothetical... just want to know why.

The Kerrans are a Matriarchal society. I sat down the other day with their story teller (bard?) and he told me about the history of the Kerrans, and how their social structure works. He said only the females get the power. Although I guess you could add bards to the list of available classes, since this particular Kerran said he earned his usefullness in the pride by telling stories.

I like the idea of making the Kerrans a player race. Getting them off of Odus would prove to be a bit difficult since the Erudin hate them. That would just mean that Verant would have to make an effort to add to Odus.

I think they should also make Kedge playable, or some form of Merfolk. There aren't really nay Races that worship prexus, and Kedge would be great - Constant Water Breath and swimming maxed out...Classes Could be Warrior, Paladin, Maybe druid and shaman, Wizard perhaps, and cleric and rogue.

BUMP I want cat form as a druid. Although as far as classes, hmm Druid easy enough to understand, Not sure about pure casters, clerics YES, Shadow knight and pally don't see a reason NOT to, rogue well the claw issue again, Monk YES and TOO cool(would scrap my iksar monk the VERY day this went live!!).
Stats would be dexterity HIGH, night vision(Dark elf style withOUT the Kos in good aligned towns WOOT about TIME), strength slightly higher than human, agility through the ROOF, stamina higher than human, not sure about Wisdom or intellegence.
YES Verant you HAVE the animations already, no reason NOT to go LIVE with this asap!!

How about a race of undead They are already everywhere. They should be limited to Shadow Knight necromancers and warriors. Natural resistance to fear and cold. Ultravision.

I think that expanding the playable choices would be GREAT... I actually sent in a suggestion a while ago about this too. While not completely dissatisfied, I think the race/class selection is a little meager.
They have cities set up already for several possible new races. Orcs have Crushbone, Goblins have Runnyeye, Gnolls have Splitpaw and Blackburrow, Kerrans have Kerra Isle, Brownies have the camp in Lesser Faydark, Centaurs have the camp in South Karana, and Aviaks also have a city in South Karana.
Some of these could cause conflicts, such as making Orcs would require orc guards to be set up in CB to protect the newbies, and this would make CB more off-limits to the low-level hunters there. Same with Aviaks.
This means that VI would be forced to make NEW zones to accomodate the new classes and keep the balance of these zones as is. Which means that unless these new additions are released commercially as an expansion, it's very doubtful they will waste their time since they won't get paid for a little extra effort.
Of course it would still be cool to run around as an orc warrior... ahh the roleplaying capabilities there...

Bump.
Kerrans as a playing class is simply a great idea. Warrior, Rogue, Shaman (not cleric), and Monk just cuz it does indeed sound too cool. While the arguments for Bard are justified, jokes about their singing like ... well... "wounded cats" are sure to become cliche.
As to the problem of travelling. As I recall, there is a pier (aka, dock for boats) in Kerra Ridge. A new boat route, or even adding it to a current boat route, might not be too difficult.

I like this idea . Kerra and Gnolls, to me, have always seemed to be a GREAT roleplaying race. (Gnolls are just everywhere...) As for evil well, I never understood SOME of the logic here. Let's take Gnolls. Sure, they attack everyone as seen. I'd be pretty upset if Filthy Druids and Rangers and Humans came to MY lands, took over them, then offered US peace. It seems to me, that Gnolls, being created by Brell Serilis (at least that is what is said by numerous EQ things..ask if you want an explanation). So, they WOULD be good, but hated by the other races, which is what Iksar are..sort of . Anyways, don't wanna offend anyone or get into my opinions about Gnolls and Kerra. Both I think would make very good (and quite funny..look at their Anthro selves..) races. I'd quit all my characters to play a Gnoll or Kerra personally . Good idea. Be neat if Kerra would not KoS to Lions, Gnolls to Wolves too .

Kerra Isle is already an under utilized area. Very little lost if it were converted to a city for a new race. Graphics already created, not much extra effort required there. Toxulia forrest desperatly needs redesign anyway and it already has a dock so that transportation to elsewhere could be setup. This would be a wonderful addition to the play options and I wouldn't mind buying an upgrade to play a Kerran.

Kerran race? Sounds pretty cool. Safefall is a perfect natural ability too. They could have a special attack too: Claws.
I doubt they will do all the work to create a new race without making you pay for another expansion, but if they did I agree that Kerran (or some similiar race like iskars are similar to lizzies) would be a great choice.

bleh but i forgot to mention what about the teams
pvp aspect? personally i think that they should have made iksar a team of their own. then if they wanted to add more races ( like these Kerrans ) then they could have stuck them on the iksar team.
It can be Team Animal! Lizardman Catmen and Dogmen ( kobolds )

I have mentioned this before... and yes i really want to play a kerran
i like the idea with adding an archipelagio (sp?) you can make another kerran city at the far end of the chain of islands and have a organization of male kerran shaman... kinda a rebelious bunch... but still there...
races dont have to be extensive, warrior and shaman obviously....
theres a strong arguement for bard
and monks sound really cool too for kerrans....
rogues not necessary... but hey why not?
beyond that i just don't see any class that would fit well with the theme...
for PVP make the iksar and kerrans aligned... i like that idea.... (heck throw an iksar emissary in the kerran starting town for the RP aspect)
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE VERANT...
please can we play kitty cats

My ranger grew bored in the Karanas recently and decided to poke around Odus
in greater depth than he had before, including a trip to The Warrens. It was
on Odus that a theory occurred to me ... the entrance and/or means of
passage to Luclin will be on Odus. I have several reasons to believe this.
First is the obvious one. Kerrans live on Odus. In speaking to them, it
seems they've lived in Odus for quite some time, longer than the Erudites,
whom they are at war with. They were once a great and powerful race with
mighty accomplishments and a thriving society. Kerrans, as it has been
revealed, will also call Luclin their home. Of course, they're called Vah
Shir there.
Also on Odus is The Warrens. Within these caves are cat people taken
prisoner called Kejekan. These cat people also talk of their mighty
ancestors, and hint about a day in which they "return." Here is what they
say: "Alas, we are a dying people. The prejudices created by our Kerran
cousins and the kobolds that slay our young in our homeland are taking their
toll. We are dying faster than our spirits can be reborn and our mortal
forms may perish soon if our ancestors do not return and the pointless
kerran versus erudite war does not cease"
Return from where? Why would their ancestors have left? Were they related to
the Kerrans, who went to war with the Erudites? And if so, were the Kerrans
not as slaughtered as thought, but instead did many of them flee?
According to Falthrik Lothoro on Kerra Isle, the first Kerran, presumably
their god, was called Kejaan. Just to add to this all.
Now, the gnome-invents-something-and-finds-new-land deal has been done
before. Would a gnomish rocketship feel out of place in Norrath? I think so.
We must assume it will be some sort of magic that brings us to Luclin, not
technology. If Kerrans once lived on Odus but left due to war, one might
think their means of leaving - portal, spell, whatever - might still be on
Odus, hidden among the Kerrans. I plan on returning and asking around about
Luclin.
Also, take Verant's recent interest in making the continent more playable.
Paineel was added, followed by The Hole. More recently, The Warrens were
thrown in (a *great* zone, by the way), with the Stonebrunt Mountains to
follow around the summer. Plenty of attention to a once overlooked place.
Setting things up to make it a usable lace to adventure with the knowledge
of a forthcoming expansion from their?
In addition, both prior expansions were only accessible from the eastern
part of Antonica. Those in the west must go east to get to Kunark or
Velious, save via teleport, making the west even more sparsely populated
than it already was. Time for attention east? Maybe so.
Plus, it seems as if the next major world event, the opening of
Decay/Disease, will take place in and around Qeynos and the Karanas. (wish I
still had the link to that brilliant web synopsis of all the events from
Bloody Kithicor up until now ... fascinating stuff) Could that event have a
tie to the "discovery" of Luclin? Or will the "return" of the
Kejekan/Kerran's ancestors have anything to do with it?
In the discussion I cite just above, apparently there is talk by some NPCs
in Erudin about worries regarding impending war and a plan to stop a bridge
between the continents from being built. There has also been the appearance
of Erudian Emissaries around the Qeynos area, as well as on Odus. These are,
apparently, dark elves in disguise. (I have not verified this first hand)
They are somehow tied into the Loathsome Individuals, who are tied into the
whole green mist and Decay thing ... too long a story to go into here. I
will post it in a separate thread for those who want to read it. My point
it, Erudin is now a part of this particular event. So will this event tie
into Luclin.
There you have it. That's some of why I believe the path to Luclin will fall
on Odus. I am by no means a loremaster of Norrath, so if anybody has
anything to poke holes in this or add to this, by all means, post away.
