Default Select Ore Conversion Recipes OOE

Currently on P99, a number of ore conversion recipes are combining out of era. Smithing Chisels can be combined with various ore to break them down into smaller units - Blocks > Large Bricks > Small Bricks > Pieces.

- EQTraders capture listing classic ore conversion recipes (updated Nov2001)
- EQTraders capture listing the new ore conversions using a chisel (updated Aug2002)

I tested ore, medium quality ore, high quality ore, and velium on P99. All could be broken down using the these Luclin era recipes.

This change occurred in the May 8, 2002 patch:
Quote:
* Added over 1,000 new tradeskill recipes for all levels of skill, along with many recipe books. A few of the vendors of Norrath might be able to get you started on your way.
Prior to May 8 2002, it seems the chisel's only use was for various quest-specific combines related to the Spirit of Garzicor.

Maybe its used in a smithing recipe? Otherwise its quite useless

If it suddenly showed up at merchants, and seems useless, it's probably for a quest that requires smithing. Like the forging hammer (not smithy hammer). Or maybe they will finally add some new smithing recipes that are similar to the new tailoring. /em crosses his fingers.

used in the "spirit of garzicor" quest, IIRC

These chisels have always been available from the same vendors that have the forging hammer mentioned above. There just wasn't much reason to include it in the item database until they decided to be really completist about it.

Note: By "always", I don't truly mean since EQ first went live. But certainly long before now, probably at least since sometime around Kunark release, given its use and the forging hammer's.

As of the May 8th massive Tradeskill patch, these now *do* have a use - as mentioned below, they are used to convert larger sizes of ore to smaller.

Bricks from Blocks, Pieces from Small Bricks.
To be changed
- Disable the chisel combines for ore, medium quality ore, high quality ore, and velium conversions

Pretty crazy- the 2 larger Velium drops “large brick” and “block” will never be useable for any purpose post change..

Can we revert back this change plz? Makes no sense to remove this QoL improvement when we already have some un-classic changes in place, such as: current UI, rooted dragons, and more.

Imo a grace period for people that have aggregated their ores with the understanding that chisels are a thing to reprocess their ore would have been nice.

Is this code base EVER going to get to "the" standard? It's so vexing for even small changes like this to bubble up and say "eat crap, player one".

I have two bags of blocks that are useless. Thanks so much.

OP, you get to be technically correct, classic AND thought-ill of by strangers! Kudos!

Hope the dopamine hit was worth it.

Looks like the chisel recipes for breaking down ore are from a later era and shouldn’t be active on P99. The May 8, 2002 patch added these tradeskill updates, so they’re definitely Luclin-era changes. Disabling the chisel combines for ore, MQ, HQ, and velium would bring things back in line with classic.
