Game Mechanics: DoTs and Club Purple

My necromancer was soloing in Befallen when I snagged a few too many. Suffice to say, I died, however, upon falling into what should have been club purple (1hp with insidious cloud), I was hit again by its initial damage, 5 points, and immediately died. I can't tell you if this refreshed the duration, though I wouldn't be surprised.

Anyway, I was going to die regardless, but found this to be unusual.

If I remember seeing in the code, the purple club is not coded quite right. I can look at it sometime when I get a chance.
