Default Not just another "which class?" thread!

But one with a twist! haha

Anyways seriously played EQ in classic, not very far though(HHK was the last place I recall leveling at).

Simple question: which class between a Necromancer and Monk would allow me to experience what EQ has to offer better? I really want to see content I missed and explore what EQ has to offer on this awesome server. I supposed I want to solo but also group, hoping I can group a lot here as I enjoy EQ community in general. I've heard Monks can solo and Necros excel at it, but which would be better w/ Kunark/old world content to see the zones/raid bosses?

Any input or information is appreciated, sorry for another "which clas sshould I play?" thead.

Monk are able to venture to more places without being attacked on site. They can interact with more NPCs and do more quests without doing the faction grind.

Necromancers can solo more content, regardless of the expansion.

It really depends on what you prefer more, experiencing the lore or just leveling up fast. That's not to say that necromancer lore is bad, just that you end up seeing less of the world, unless you are invis or FD.

I started out on this server as an Erudite Necromancer and bad faction added allot of extra play time and more frustration. I'm at 24 now and it is not near as much of a concern. But up until 12, when you get bind, it can be a big pain in the ass.

You'll experience more as a monk.

Necros are great, super powerful, great for soloing, great for twinking other chars, but unless you go out of your way to purposely do the things that you wanna experience, you won't.

As a monk, especially if you work on any of the monk quests, you'll experience a LOT of the world of Everquest by just playing the game and doing what you would be doing normally.

I agree with Baalzy

There are a lot of necro's on this server, nothing wrong with that. Necro's are a GREAT class that offers a lot. Unfortunately 90% of the necros follow the same path and solo in the same areas and never experience the game unless they go out of their way to do it. With that said IF you make effort to go out and group, and go do quests and go explore and not just grind through your levels you will enjoy necromancers.

Monks are awesome and fun, and unlike most classes in the game. You will be more limited than a necro due to lack of spells but they have great quests too.

in my opinion this game can't be fully experienced if you solo all the time, but there is no rule that necros can't group, or duo or whatever. I guess just make an effort to see the world and remember that the fastest path to the top is not always the best.

Awesome I was leaning towards a Monk anyways, especially an Iksar I love their animations. My primary concern is just experience high end content, I hear that grouping isnt a problem on this server so it should help my Monk in his journey.

You picked a good time to start up, lotta lowbie chars to group with.

Monks are more likely to get into high-end content then necros. There's not much point in having more than 1-2 necros in a raid, while monks can serve as pullers for raids and make good DPS chars who won't pull agro from the tanks.
