Quite often actually. If you ride the boat for a while, you'll notice that the big 'skips' the boat does generate the 'large warp detected' text.

I reckon it's because the positional information of your character isn't realtime updated. Imagine running across West Karana, and you start to lag hard serverside, but experience nothing at your computer. According to your computer, you're halfway across the zone, and when the server finally catches up, the next positional marker of your character is a HUGE difference from what it last knew, thus 'large warp detected'.

I experienced this today while fighting around the newbie log in Nek forest. Did not suffer any ill effects from it, but it was a weird message.

Yup, it's just from lag. I'm not sure if it's from client side, server side, or either types of lag, but it happens when one of them are out of sync I believe.

it is caused by client side lag in your situations ...

You could have three possible issues;

> Uber client side lag (graphics stuttering/low cpu attention to EQ)
> Burst of ISP <--> Server packet loss while moving
> Your hacking [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I reviewed the recent EQEmu code into this problem, and discovered that it's actually less difficult to trigger the "Large Warp Detected" if you have SoW or another run speed buff on. This is because the actual range of freedom increases, as the players run speed increases.

If you have weird wireless connection issues like mine, you'll fall into ISP Lag, and have no control of =( I get intermittent packet loss for half a second even sometimes, and it sets it off unless I have a run speed buff on me.

Everytime you see the message your account is logged as a possible hacking attempt. They're able to see the distance delta and determine how far your "large warp" was, and how often you seem to be doing it. I assume this would inevitably warrant a GM investigation, but this happens so frequently to so many people that aren't actually hacking. So, the trick is to use the log data to find those that are cheating [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
