Default AC/HP decisions.

Is there any resources out there that someone could point me to that has information on how to weigh these stats compared to each other for tanking? I've done some searching around but I can't seem to find anything. I've heard some people say 1ac = 10hp or 5hp.

And AC doesnt resist spell dmg as well.

AC is fine for mobs that are blue con, but HP works on everythiing.

There is only ever a narrow margin on a continuum in which adding AC is useful.

There are mobs where you are already mitigating as well as you possibly can, so adding more AC is useless (velious geared vs lvl 1 skeleton).

There are mobs where you aren't even close to mitigating, so adding more AC is useless (cloth geared vs Avatar of War).

So adding more AC is only really useful against a mob where you are either already mitigating reasonably (but not at peak), or against a mob where you are at the precipce of being able to mitigate.

Likewise removing AC will only make a difference against mobs where you are partially mitigating or at the precipice of max mitigation.

Fungi > all unless raid tanking with a tight cheal chain

For the rest (raid or group) ac > hp. At most levels of gameplay it’s a no brainer as the best hp gear usually has high ac and visaversa. I can’t think of many choices a tank will have from 51 onward where it’s a choice of raw high ac vs raw hp. In later expansions (ie augments) there are a lot more choices to make but not velious capped servers.

I’d use a 1hp = 6-8ac ratio on p99 ... but as of yet I can’t think of any realistic situation where you’d have to think too hard about it. At 60 in casual gear I’m already at 3.3k unbuffed. My gear is pretty meh but it gives way more than enough to tank anything a group might face. For raids in velious, high hp gear comes with high ac.

It’s a wash.

I know this might not be relevant but on EQmac client back in the day someone did a bunch of testinf with ac rankings at 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400, 1500, 1600.

It's all a bit fuzzy but I remember at 1400ac the returns on AC diminished fast. Now It may not be relevant for p99 as it has different coding/expansion set but at some point AC becomes meh. (Tho I think AC is broken on p99 rifht?)

I'm at about 1800 AC on Aikons and it absolutely dwarfs regular content including HoT mobs. Velious dragons don't give a fuck tho, except for Zlandi for some odd reason, he barely scratches me. He must have a much lower attack rating than the rest.

This was one of the best explanations I've read, thanks jim..

Complete Heal is the overriding reason HP is great. But ya, there aren't all that many real decisions to make. I guess there are more at the low/mid end, but really it's up to how you are playing. If you are gearing in EC, most decisions are relatively easy based on cost/reward. If you are getting CHed a lot and leveling, then HP without totally gimping AC is probably right. A balance is nice if you are twinking a level 1.
