![]() Just looking for advice, tips, info on the wizard class in general that I might not be aware of. (I made a Sol Ro, Dark elf wizard.)
What gears should a wizard get? What gears do wizards need for maximum effectiveness? How decent are wizards on raids? (doubt I ever will, but this is one facet I am most ignorant about because I never played a wizard let alone did any raiding on one.)

![]() Are you going to quad to level? You can start quadding at level 8 if you want to. If quadding, you'll want some +mana items for sure. Base mana pool may not be enough early on. Quest a flux staff at level 20 to make tagging mobs a breeze (you'll use this forever, amazing item.) Obviously some kind of speed boost is needed too, either jboots, sow pots, or you can level near druid rings or just port to EC once you're high enough level.
Other than that, wizards don't really benefit from gear much outside of really high level stuff. If you make it to 60, aim for a Velk/Rend robe, epic staff, and Manna Robe in that order. Wizards are great on raids. They're decent dps on boss mobs when you can use your full mana bar. They're critical for rapid mobilization and getting to Hate/Sky. And best of all, they're really easy and low stress to play. Good luck wizarding! It's not always an easy road, but it can be a lot of fun.

I got the wizard to 23 so far, and also got a flux staff. My druid came in good use for that. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] I figured I would slum it on sow pots till high enough lvl to kill the AC on my own with the wizard to get jboots. I was thinking I would quad, I always loved to quad on my druid so hoping I enjoy it just the same on wizard. ***I need to work my spell skills up a bit, I did the bread quest to lvl the wizard mostly but couldn't resist seeing how efficient it is on a wizard. 23 lvls in 2-3 days is fast for me, had I tried soloing or grouped even, I don't think I would have gotten levels this fast. I don't know if i will ever reach 60, but I like the freedom to port on wizard, and the simplicity of spells is a nice change from chanter/shaman which I play mostly. I have found myself enjoying simpler classes recently, my rogue is great when I want to melee but do it low stress, and when I need higher stress/complexity I been on my chanter. Maybe the wizard can be my low stress spell caster!

![]() Do the Tarton's Wheel quest and put the Star of Eyes in your main inventory. Load your nuke with a recast delay in spell gem 1. After you cast the spell activate your star of eyes and then you will be able to use that nuke again before the recast delay was complete.

![]() Wizard quadding is faster but more dangerous than Druid quadding. Faster in that you can insta-cast to pull with the Flux staff and more quickly gather mobs together since they aren't snared; more dangerous in that you have less room for error with 4 unsnared mobs chasing you before you cast your snare. It's also a pain when you get one resist out of the group and have to individually snare it then regroup them all together.
Wizards are incredibly one-dimensional and boring to play, and I say that as someone who prefers a more laid-back playstyle. They truly take laid-back to the next level. It's more like a comatose playstyle. And no one wants to group with you, ever. Any group you get will either be a result of pity or ignorance, because you cannot ever carry your own weight. You can quad a Wizard up to the low 50's pretty easily, but beyond that it really is going to be a slog now that Chardok AOE is no longer a thing. And for what? If you don't want to raid, what's the point? The most useful thing you can do with a 50+ non-raiding Wizard is to park him in EC and port/TL people. If you want a low-stress caster I'd recommend trying a Mage at least up to level 12 or so before going all-in with the Wizard. They're also a very laid-back class, but they have the added benefit of actually being useful in groups and capable of farming plat/items. If you are truly dead-set on the Wizard the most important key to success is having strong Alt-Tab skills and something else to work on during downtime.

![]() I solo'd a wizard to 60, mostly casual, took about a year and a half. It's a nice class to just afk a lot between quads. I didn't start quadding a ton until 34.
25-30 you can solo that one gnome on a 6m40s timer by the windmills that the others don't assist, forget his name. 30-36 or so you can kill the gnolls in SK and collect the skins. Bind by the hand in guy in South Qeynos and do the hide trick to turn them in for a ton of exp (stand outside house, he's green and doesn't aggro, open the tradebox, hit hide, con him to make sure he's indifferent, then hit trade). 36-42 the cliffs in FV are awesome for quadding. 42-46ish I quadded in Dreadlands, near the yeti caves. 46-51 I just root nuked the Hill Giant in WK and made a ton of plat. I'm sure there's better places to quad in Velious though. 51-54 I quadded dwarf guards in BB (the level 40 ones) 54-57 Raptors 57-60 The dock guards in BB and the hut down the path, there's 3 level 45 dwarves and 1 level 40. It's a grind, but you can solo the entire way.
