Default EQ Mysteries: The Beholder's Maze? and The Chessboard

Ever wonder why there's a giant chessboard in Butcherbock? Ever think about The Gorge of King Xorbb and wonder why it's almost never called The Beholder's Maze? You probably don't care too much about such things, but I do..... I care a lot....... too much actually

Yay

Its worth pointing out the connections Xorbb has to the goblins living in Runny eye. Xorbbs staff is actually one of the four goblin staffs that were given to them as a final boon after being created from the ashes of thr Ankexfen, following the defeat of Rallos
Zek and his races (namely ogres, orcs, and the original goblins).

You can read more about it here in this quest http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=275

Its a part of the fabled Blued Two Handed Hammer, and the dialogue reveals that Xorbb has placed the goblins of runnyeye under his command. And clearly he has taken one of the last precious goblin artifacts from the king!

That's why you find evil eyes on Runnyeye. There is a prisoner there, so it seems like SOME resistance is being made by the goblins, but I wager the goblin King has been dominated.

However, since runnyeye 2.0 came out, it seems like Xorbb has less influence. The pickclaws, true to their name, expanded the mining operation and found high quality ore, also kicking out the remnants of clan Runnyeye. So it may now be that Xorbb is at war with the goblins and the morali who have infested the halls.
