How to tell mage pet level?

Ok, there are 2 ways to tell a pet that I know of:

1. Con the pet (tell high/blue vs low/green)
2. Send it into battle to see max hit/spell

But is there any other way to tell? Basically, I'm trying to find out if I have a max pet before I try to find weak mobs to witness the max hit. I never played a mage on live though.
