cant go past character select screen

When I reach character select I get to one of my characters on the select screen but the box to let me enter the game or change characters does not appear. Tried launching several times, rebooted, but no joy.

This came immediately after my game kept minimizing when I clicked on the top portion of the screen and I camped to desktop intending to log back in.
