![]() Hello Developers, I humbly come before you and beseech thee. Why oh WHY isn't level 60 wolf form black like its supposed to be? Back in classic kunark days i remember druids becoming black wolves and if you became a black wolf it meant you "made it" as a druid. This has bothered me for a long time and I think its long overdue. Can we please have Form of the Hunter be black like its supposed to be in the next patch, pretty please?
Thank you! | ||

Archived Druid's Grove post from 2004: http://thedruidsgrove.org/archive/eq/t-7350.html (states "illusion: Black Wolf") This page which has up to level 65 for druids (so well past Kunark era): http://home.earthlink.net/~brucehalp...uidspells.html "turns caster into a wolf" 2003 archived page: http://web.archive.org/web/200310100.../druspell.html "illusion: Black Wolf" August 2000: http://web.archive.org/web/200008312...lls/druid.html "Upgraded wolf form. This wolf form has no duration, it will only remove when you zone or cancle it. It also gives the speed effect of scale of wolf, instead of spirit of wolf." (It also says mask of the hunter SHRINKS you O_o) August 2000: http://web.archive.org/web/200008221.../expansio1.htm "Upgraded Self Only Wolf Form +70% move, +62% attack, ultravision" April 2001: http://web.archive.org/web/200104170.../expansio1.htm Same thing... The spell list I have from 2000 also only mentions that it turns the caster into a wolf.

![]() Complicated somewhat by wolf being probably the most messed-up model behind the scenes...
There's actually 2 classic-era wolf models: WOM (race 42) and WOE (race 120). WOM is Wolf Male (the Female variety is the Scaled Wolf model added with Kunark, which is a whole other story...) which is the grey-furred wolf by default, and has alternate textures for black fur and white fur. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] WOE is... probably Wolf Elemental? (Maybe that's what Verant called it? Dunno where early data scrapers got all the race names from...) This is the one with blue fur and red eyes, the "spirit wolf". It has no alternate textures. (Although I feel like it had a semi-transparent mode using the same textures, which would technically work as a "alternate texture" in the client. This seems to be messed up with how p99 made the old wolf models work, though.) [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] The fact that the earlier spell data list Illusion: Wolf Elemental is maybe decent evidence that it used the spirit wolf model, and not the grey/black/white wolf model (could be better evidence if someone knows where the name came from). On the other hand, the black fur being an alternate texture makes things interesting, because early data scrapers may not have known about one of the spell data fields being used to specify the texture for an illusion. Alternate texture illusions were very rare at the time (red bone skeleton from the necro nuke is the only one I can think of) and, later on at least, they awkwardly put the id of the texture to use into a field that is normally used for spell effects that scale numerically with level. On the other-other hand, illusions with alternate textures were so rare that it's possible they might have all just been hard-coded at the time, which would escape being captured from the spell data. No reason to assume that, though, and without a post of someone mentioning the color I would err on the side of it in fact being the Wolf Elemental model.

![]() Quote:
for p99's timeline, none of the druid forms use a black wolf model you probably remember form of the hunter being a "black" wolf due to the Luclin wolf models, which were darker than the vanilla ones luclin wolves: http://shirotaku.free.fr/Wolves7.jpg vanilla wolves: http://wiki.project1999.com/images/Npc_a_gale_wolf.png
