Lightbulb Official P99 Retexturing Thread

This is mainly a thread where I'll post A/B screenshots so people can get an idea of what the new textures will look like. I'll be getting everything screenshotted in similar fashion eventually, including all of the new weapon and held items that were done by me and Cucumbers, along with new stuff as it gets completed. To kick things off, here are before and afters for the completely redone textures that Nysus, Xevin, and Joyelle worked on - I'm not sure who did what, so feel free to post proper credit:

All human male textures redone:

Robe improvements are more subtle - mostly just more definition which is more noticeable close-up.

And here are the others that were only upscaled - these ones were not redone by hand, just improved with software courtesy of Cucumbers:

These are a bit hit or miss for me...that last halfling face is definitely a miss. I don't know much about retexturing in EQ, unfortunately =\

Which ones do you like the most? Feedback is definitely good so we know what people prefer - I think the halfling face is awesome though haha

Best: red robe, blue robe, robe with eyeballs on shoulders, froglok, human default shirt, human chain

The rest lost some detail (EX: the stuff down the middle of the DE plate) or changed completely (a new sash for human monk?!).

Also, I fixed your halfling face there to show you what I mean :P

Talking Feedbacks

When you put this in with the whole picture (all weapons/shield/held item etc + ) it is a very nice option. With a new age computer/TV screen ( 4k even) the stuff is noticeably different in game compared to what is already seen above in these screenshots. Everything is smoothed out and no jagged edges. Looks great in motion.

- Only thing that I can see here that really sticks out is the halfling face.
Due to the eyes. That remake really fixed it up.

The screenshots to me are...
LEFT SIDE: blurred / choppy RIGHT SIDE: crisp and clear.

I do see the robe thing mentioned... like - SMR (purple robe)
-- The **black looks lighter on the right (HD pic) and belt. Should be jet black

** But after checking it out in game the black is not that light (if someone not on a 4k screen can double confirm this + ill post a screenshot if want) and the belt seems better then that pic. So I believe when you took the pic on that robe somehow you got a light source projecting off you or something in the right pic which makes it seem light black instead of dark jet black.

I could see the issue with the human monk if someone wanted to show their 6 pack but now it is covered with the HD sash. That a easy fix?
Now the right side is still way clear and the detail is nice . Just tucking the belt or removing would be ideal.

Sign @Sorn up for some work tho : ) took the glassy out of the eyes of the halfling and really touched it up nicely. How do you do that and get it to You in useable form...
paint?

I believe this has a bunch to do with personal preference and the size/reso of the screen you are playing on + eyesight vision.
That DE armor on the left (you can really see the detail difference from behind just not in that shot) What you see in the left side shot is a blurred mess. Like look at the legs. Now with the chest piece on the left has black spots running down it... It is fixed on the right.
With the DE plate on the right side (High def Dark elf) it is 100% almost a double better version. If you give it a shot You will see.

* I would bet on more people saying the right side is crisp and clear and the left is not detailed and in some cases is a blurred mess. Speak up if ya read this.

Yep - good eye, there's definitely some miscoloration here. I went back to the original uncompressed redone SMR textures and it looks as if it's already been heavily compressed and has some really bad artifacting. I'm just gonna ditch this and replace it with Cucumbers' upscaled SMR which looks great, unless I can find a higher quality version of this remade one.

The redone monk textures I'm gonna leave as-is unless someone (*cough* Sorn *cough*) wants to redo those to be more classic. If total classic consistency is your thing, then Cucumbers' textures will better suit your needs - I'll be posting screenshots of these as well. The package I'm putting together that includes all of the remade-by-hand stuff is going to deviate a little bit from the purest of classic aesthetics, but collaborators are definitely welcome.

Also, we've now more or less figured out that we'll be able to make all of the new textures work with *zero* compression. At least, we're pretty sure. Meaning these textures will all look noticeably better, and I'll post some better screenshots once we figure that out.
