Default *LINUX* MIDI and XMI -- Music Playback Issue

So my EQ client plays the battle music and the loading theme, but no other music. Since it has no issue playing the basic game sounds, I discovered that EQ -- being a downright ancient game at this point -- uses MP3's for very short audio sequences (running water loops, wind, hitsounds, etc.) and MIDI files for the music... the notable exceptions being -- you guessed it -- the loading and battle themes. Problem is, the MIDI sequences are encoded in an XMI format. I have absolutely no clue what this is or how to even begin to start working out compatibility. None of my distro-approved MIDI daemons will recognize it. I'm still pretty new with Linux in general and a bit out of my depth. If there are any gurus out there I'd appreciate any help, thoughts, or ideas.

Cheers.

I'm running 64-bit Arch 4.8.7-1

I think you need a SoundFont with SF2 support to be able to playback XMI, but I'm not sure which would be the best choice for a Linux machine - or if there even is such a thing for your Linux kernel. Could try MuseScore if you haven't, and assuming you've already tried FluidR3.
