Default NPC max hit by level

So I used to think I knew how this worked. I'm not sure if I was just incorrect or if things changed or if the "rule" I thought I had didn't apply as widely as I thought it did.

I thought NPC max hits up to the upper 20s or so was 2 * NPC level. So a level 20 mob would hit for 40. A level 25 would hit for 50.

The around 30 I thought things got goofy, and in the 30s I never really knew what max hits per level were, cause spectres hit for up to 96 though their max level is only 37 but stuff that's only 35 (tundra yeti, per wiki) only hits for a max of 79 in my logs of fighting them.

40-60 most all classic and kunark mobs hit for 100 + 4 per level above 40.

Is this still mostly correct? Lots of stuff I've been fighting as I level a new chanter on blue seems to have max hits that are odd numbers, or max hits that don't follow the patterns above.

Anyone able to enlighten me, please?

From the 1/31/16 patch:

Quote:
Telin: Increased max damage for Froon, Choon, an ice giant, a sand giant, a spectre, Sandgiant Husam, a hill giant, a cyclops, Broog Bloodbeard, Tarskuk, Guard Fernaldo, and Guard Carnita.

For what I would call the "minimum max hit" here is what I have discovered:

For classic zones, mobs that are not Giants or have special abilities, it is 2 x level + 2. You add the 2 to account for the level 1 max hit of 4 points of damage. Giants and spectres have a 20 point damage bonus added to that calculation.

So a level 37 hill giant = 37*2 = 74 + 2 = 76 + 20 bonus = 96

I have only verified a handful of max hits. The database is massive and a lot of the max hits are from research and others may be rough estimates. I do audit them periodically and update them as I go through a zone.

Thanks, Telin!

My chanter is currently fighting the "a gaduladian widemouth"s in paw, all of which con blue at 35 (and did also at 34 iirc), but some of which have 74 as max hits. That and the extra 2 that I was forgetting/ignoring spurred me to ask on here.

But level 35 mobs hit for 80 and level 40 mobs hit for 100 usually, no?

This is for the minimum max hit. There are countless exceptions, but nothing should max less.

I've been doing the shardwurms in Great Divide recently.

The crystalline shardwurms are level 40 and hit for 120 which is triple their level in damage. Using your calculation, 40*2=80+2=82 +20 if you consider it a special type mob like a giant = 102. They are basically hitting like a level 49 giant.

The matriarch is 45 and hits for 140. 45x2=90+2=92+20=112. This is hitting like a level 59 giant.

Are these overtuned or is there a special calculation for Velious mobs or these mobs in particular?

I think it's a velious and/or dragon thing. The general rule at 40+ for classic and kunark was 100 at 40, +4 per level. This held true for basically all trash mobs and most typical named mobs and it was only stuff like Drusilla or emperor or raid mobs that broke the pattern.

Really kinda wish I'd paid closer attention (and fought some even cons) at each level as I leveled my new chanter.

I thought it was (maxhit / 4) + 15 to determine level. 132/4 = 33 + 15 = lvl 48 mob
