Default What Will Phinigel Progression Server Be Like?

Hello P99,

I've never experienced a server launch and want to try this new one by daybreak in hopes that its a nice EQ experience. Is it going to be worth paying for? What can I expect to be the same/different? I cannot play on a live server because its a totally unclassic game. Also, 3 months per expansion makes me a little uneasy. How will it compare to P99?

Any info to help decide would be appreciated.

Steiner

it sounds like their best shot at a progression server yet, but 3 months per xpac, unclassic zones and I assume luclin models = loses my interest

In all group content to ons will be way op compared to what they should be. Raid mobs will be beefed up to compensate. The experience curve will be imo too fast so the path to max level will cause a very rapid high end bloat. I think it will be better than their previous attempts and with beefed up raid mobs I don't see a problem with instances. My gripe is the utter triviality of the group game and poor representation of class tuning compared to p1999. For my taste p1999 is the best representation of classic eq and if it's that era that you are interested in nothing will compare to playing here.

It should be pretty fun, instanced raids will do a lot to alleviate the chokehold awful smelly nerds have had on the endgame of prior progression servers.

But we're looking at the deathrattle of EQ Live and I don't expect the game to last for the Phinigel server to reach PoP or beyond.

It will endure, Everquest may be swirling the drain, but the game has ages before it's gone.

You can't have a good experience on the live servers unless they take out an extensive amount of code and shit additions made in later expansions.

Also don't forget to pay to win, box and use mercs in instanced content for your classic live progression experience.

Daybreak doing it all wrong imo.

Keep in mind you'll have revamped Freeport and updated graphics. I was leveling a character on the last TLP and NOTHING attacked me in the newbie yard, skeletons or anything!

It's basically going to be the same as the last TLP, but with an even more diluted/smaller player base. While I can appreciate the intention (even though the whole idea sounds like them catering to the whiny forum crybabies), there is no way in hell DBG can easily police the proposed rule changes / restrictions.

ANY emu server is better than EVERY DBG server [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

At least P99 is free of high end bloat...

People seem to have a lot of misconceptions about the new TLP server. From what I've read, things like mercs and out of combat regen won't show up until the expansion that introduced them. To some extent, spells are tied to the expansions. For instance, enchanters will not get breeze until Kunark launchs. I believe the revamped spell lines are in place though (casters no longer get spells every 4/5 levels but instead get a few every level).

I'll be trying it out. For a casual player, the instanced raid content will be nice. I was a little concerned about the fast unlocks too, but my favorite part of EQ has always been the group game. If I'm not 50 by kunark, or 60 by velious, that really isn't going to bother me at all because there is fun exping zones in both expansions.

I don't plan to play once I've reached the end of PoP, but that should last me until something new like Pantheon comes along anyways.

Daybreak is a joke but donate to their incompetence if you feel like it.
