Default My introduction.

Hello everyone,

I am totally new to EverQuest and, actually, found out about P1999 just quite recently and thought I'd come say hi and ask a few questions while at it. Learning about this site and this project already convinced me completely, and I pretty much went straight on over to eBay and bid on an EQ Titanium Edition, hehe. =P

My MMO history is quite sparse; I have only played two MMOs in my whole life time of 27 years, which are WoW from a few months after the launch of TBC (didn't raid actively until Mists of Pandaria, though) and TESO, with which I dabble with even today. As I pretty much completely skipped vanilla WoW in retail, I thought I'd try out a failry populated private server with no donation-to-win gates called Nostalrius, and I was not disappointed! This made me think that P1999 would probably be better for me as in terms of EQ than what the official retail progression servers would have to offer. This one seems much more legit and is also quite very popular.

I'm having some trouble figuring out how each of the servers actually play out, however; I understand the difference between a PVE and PVP server from my WoW days, but I can't for the death of me figure out what the deal is with the Discord server. Is it down only temporarily? Is it a PVE or a PVP server? And most importantly; what expansions are currently unlocked there? I would be interested in experiencing EQ from the earliest content possible. Yes, even with the horrible vanilla 1.0 user interface, if possible. =P That's right, I'm hard core. =P

Cheers!

I would honestly say the PvE server (the regular P99 server) will give you an experience as close to vanilla as possible. PvP has its quirks, and isn't as populated. I would suggest that, at least until you're comfortable, hit the vanilla server and level a toon there.

Hello and welcome!

The Discord server is a side project that the developers of P99 are working on. It's a permanent death, no holds barred server. It will only be up for a limited time when it goes live.

Project 1999 is currently in the Velious expansion which just recently went live. It is however, the last expansion slated for this server. That being said, EQ is quite different from the MMOS that you have played. It may take you a year to level your character to max, depending on the class you choose and play time available to you.

One piece of advice that I'd recommend to anyone who is starting out for their first time, is to pick the rave and class that you like best. Don't worry about min/maxing. Don't listen to anyone who tells you that you need to play x class with y race. EQ is truly about leveling and grouping. You will be staring at your toon for a long time, so make sure to choose the race/class that you want to look at.

The only advice I can give new players is to make a mage or necro. They take the least amount of gear to get off the ground and their pets make leveling much smoother at low levels. They're the easiest to get to the 20s and 30s, at which time you should be able to twink an alt you really want to play.
