Default Gamma question

Just coming back to P99 after a break. I'm also on a new laptop and I'm noticing the default gamma setting (I think it's at 50) is absurdly bright. I'm sure this varies across different computers, but what is closer to the default or "original" gamma setting from years ago? Wasn't it, at one point locked and unchangeable (necessitating the importance of infra/ultravision?).

I actually prefer the darker look of lower gamma, just curious what you guys feel gets the game to look like it should have back in the day. Also, are there any plans to lock the gamma in at a set value to make infra/ultra and human vision somewhat standardized? Or would that be impossible due to natural variation of computers?

Edit: I did search the forums for other topics on this, but was confused by what I found. Mention of a "gamma patch" or "fix," but I'm not sure what is meant by that. At least on my client, the gamma slider is still fully adjustable and I'm trying to approximate something of a "default" that will get the game to look right (and properly dark).

I have had the same issue on just about every computer I've played on in the past. Tbh I would say use your own discretion as the Titanium client does not do lighting the way EQ did on older clients. As a result I usually feel as though Titanium is somewhat indiscriminant of level of brightness regardless of race/nighttime (ex. humans aren't overly blind at night anymore). Generally I've found that my monitor runs bright, but I've set EQs gamma between 40 and 80 usually to at least offset the extra brightness after logging in.

*edit* there was a brief gamma patch sometime back but it was removed shortly after due to varying results among players.
