Default No Man's Sky

No Man's Sky demo from E3. Wondering if anyone else has seen this and is going to waste years of their life playing it. A space exploration MMO like nothing I've ever seen before.

https://youtu.be/7VJvckCmNBo

It's going to be released on PS4 and PC, I am guessing sometime next year.

I am following No Man's Sky closely. When it appears on PC i will certainly give it a try (not buying a PS4 for it). Not sure if i will like it more than Elite : Dangerous. It seems to be aimed at fun with no big time sinks... but that means it will appear less "real" than ED.

The planet surfaces look amazing and detailed, that alone is enough for me to buy it. But the dimensions are all off. Planets are really tiny, star systems are totally unrealistic... it's a game after all and does not try to simulate anything.

ED will have planetary landings as well, but i am sure it will take at least a year before it comes. Will be interesting to compare then.

That's an awkward sounding title for a game isn't it?

I was pretty stoked for this game when I first heard about it. I'm really into space sim games x, elite, freelancer, eve, etc
But then they stopped releasing information about it. this is the first I've heard anything about it since a long time ago. I'll certainly be waiting for a full review before throw my money at it. Hopefully they cram pack it with enough space sim goodies.

As Pyrion mentioned Elite is going to be getting planetary landing someday. As well as a first person walk around mode. I dont know if it will be like NMS but we'll have to wait a good amount of time to find out. :\ NMS might be a good time filler in the mean time till they add that.

They've explained a lot of this. Planets are closer together intentionally and the atmosphere of said planets is intentionally thin.

During play tests they found that it simply wasn't fun to spend 15 moving through a planets atmosphere let alone hours flying from planet to planet

During the PC Conference they announced a simultaneous ps4 and PC launch date too. Surprisingly Sony backed them on it believing that ultimately the largest possible playerbase was the best option for the games health

Theyve release a lot of info but theyre avoiding the typical hypetrain marketing. This January video is 10x better than anything from E3 (they even show the debug code running while he plays. Something I've not seen from a developer like this)

A Behind-The-Scenes Tour Of No Man's Sky's Technology

Really interesting idea and game engine they've created. Let's hope it all works out as intended

Not really... I bought ED and regretted it immediately. Not bad but not worth 80$ to me.

400 BILLION STARS... IN SPAAAAACE!! WHOOOOAAA so huge!!!!!!!

Yeah but what to do in all these systems , not much. Blowing pirates, scanning suns, Trading.

Every one of these systems should have something going on in it (at least inhabited space), or else 400 Billion or 400 billion billion stars its all the same shit.

For example, some system might have a problem with raiders who destroy their spacebeer supplies so spacebeer price is really high because spacebeer components only available from out systems. Raiders then sell spacebeers themselves.

You could then try to smuggle some space beer, get hired by pirates to blow up smugglers, get hired by system to destroy pirate headquarters in an asteroid field in the system. You could find the base on your own and then farm it for ship component salvage after you blow them up.

None of this is in elite dangerous, and to me is the big challenge of these new procedurally generated games, to make em seem lively and have some interesting gameplay options possible.

X3 with mods was the closest to this ive found. Elite Dangerous is years away it feels from the type of content you could deal in, in X3.

Hopefully No mans sky gets some of this right.
