Default Need Some Shaman Advice In Everfrost

I'm a level 12 Barbarian Shaman and was thinking about soloing Mammoth Calfs in Everfrost. I tried it once by casting Tainted Breath and ran away with SOW and than I would cast Sicken. The only problem is it seem the Mammoth Calf was taking less damage than what I was able to keep for mana.

I have checked out hunting guides for advice but what would the best spell setup be if I want to solo Mammoth Calfs, survive and not run out of mana?

Thank you...

Running mobs take reduced damage if they are chasing. I see two options to try against these mammoth calves.

Rooting them to the spot will improve your dps and allow you to meditate.
Alternatively you can try improving your dps by meleeing them (this will improve your Dots similar to rooting the mob but you can also swing your weapon). I suggest wearing strength, inner fire, an AC buff and maybe even fleeting fury.

The final option is to find something to XP on for another level or two. Spirit strike really eats away at things quickly!

Oh, bonus option. Run diagonally, even with sow you'll run faster. Once you've made some good distance sit down, meditate and then recast your dot just before it fades.

Final check: you did remember to train meditate, right?

When a mob with DoTs on it moves it takes less (2/3 I think) of the normal DoT damage. Instead of getting the mob to chase you and waste damage, you want to either root or fight the mob to keep it in one place.

Try this:

1A) Root the mob (keep re-casting if root breaks), or
1B) Attack the mob (if your HP gets low root and back away)

then:
2) Cast your disease DoT
3) Cast your poison DoT (keep re-casting as it runs out)

If you start at full health/mana and do some variation of the above you should be able to take on a mammoth calf (or any other blue con mob).

Thanks for the information and I did double check and I do have meditate.

One problem I see is Shamans don't get a root spell until level 14 so it looks like I may have to wait a level or two before I can try again.

Ah, yes that could be a problem. If melee doesn't work try running away (diagonally with sow!) for 30 seconds or so and meditating until the mammoth is back in spell range before refreshing your DoTs.

If you are really short on mana you can run further, enough to ensure you can meditate back enough mana for another dot, but I'm not sure if that would be time efficient.

Perhaps kill a few more orc troopers for 14?

I'd just look for something else to kill for awhile, to be honest. I'm leveling a barb shammy myself and I'm debating what I want to do at 10 (which I just hit)... SoW kite and pray is not even in the picture, despite what that barbarian shaman solo guide says [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Blackburrow till 12.5 or so, if youve been there since 5/6 and haven't turned in any gnoll fangs yet that should get you 14 or close to it (assuming you want to stay in the area).

Also for efficiency/tempo sake, I'd argue use Drowsy over Sicken and melee the mob down ( slow + one dot per mob). If you hug the zone wall to the left when you enter the tundra from the 2 guard spot, you can try grabbing snow orc troopers (7-9) and mountaineers (12-13). Just watch out for orc shamans wandering around as they are sowed and cast the lvl 9 and 14 dots + spirit strike.

Honestly...I'd just do BB via gnoll fang farming + gnoll elite camps until you hit 14 if you want to stay "Halas centric" and hit the mammoth calves/orcs then.

I think that I will hit Blackburrow and Qeynos and take out Gnolls for awhile. Most are green to me but some come across blue but I will be able to stock on gnoll fangs to turn in and equipment to sell to make some money.

With enough kills and fangs, I should hit 14 and then try out Orcs and Mammoth Calves again...

BB is painful man, let me tell you. It's basically FFA in there. People don't respect camps at all. I wish you the best in doing that, but it's going to be a tough road to hoe.
